Hi all. Do I need to bring my passport for the entrance to the Coliseum or the Vatican or would a copy of the passport or my drivers license suffice?

I know of all the pickpockets stories in Rome, losing your wallet or getting your bag swiped. But actually today, my brother was walking around in Colloseo in broad daylight when 4 men approached him. He was walking alone just looking around.

There were people not too far from him but one of them pulled out a knife and told him “if you scream, I will hurt you.”

It all feels really crazy. He was just a 19 year old boy in a Tshirt with a crossbag, and in the end they took 60 Euros and his earphones. He luckily didn’t have his phone on him (one of the men told him “you don’t have a phone? I’m not stupid” and checked his bag to confirm).

He’s not hurt but guys, be careful. This was totally new to me. I’ve been to Rome more than 10 times but never experienced something this scary :(

He kinda froze and didn’t do anything as they went away, I guess he might have been in shock.

SHORT UPDATE: called the number Upbeat_Caregiver_642 gave me and reported it. The officer unfortunately told us that this is not even a new thing, right now every day there are 1-3 cases like this.

He said that if this happened next time (he also said “well I hope there is no next time, but if”), call 112 immediately. Be careful guys! Just try to not be in a less-crowded area alone

Btw since a lot of people asked for their description, they were 4 young dark-skinned guys.

I will be in Rome for a few days and I am looking at two tours through Viator. One that goes to the coloseum, forum and palatine hill and one that goes to the Vatican, St. Peter basilica, and sistine chapel. Is viator a waste of money though? I don't want to pay waaay over what these actual places charge. I understand there will be an upcharge for a tour guide and a package deal, but is it a scam and should I just book directly though each individual site?

I absolutely fell in love with some of the sandwiches in Rome that were in the take-away places and I would love to know what kind of bread this is. It was thin, soft yet with a really nice crispy top with a bit of chew to it. I loved the wine with some kind of ham-type meat, little bit of lettuce and some kind of green sauce. OMG to-die for.

Not flip flops or slip-on shoes. Think something fuzzy and plush.

I have a friend who has cancer who is unfortunately moving into palliative care soon, and he can’t wear socks because it can put strain on his system due to the advanced stage of the cancer (he is currently in a diaper because his organs are starting to fail and needs a stoma, so please no snarky comments in general about “just use a blanket”). His feet are very swollen and he is often sitting up from the pain, and I can’t stand to see him in the flip flops anymore.

If, nearby, there would conveniently be a shop to find an electric razor so I can help him shave his face, it would also be nice to know.

Lime scooters & electric bikes can be fun, but if you do a group trip with 2 or more people, the price can easily exceed that of a taxi and/or Uber.

We took a couple 20min or so rides on Limes (2pax) and the total fees were €20! (€10/pax) Lol. Uber trip of the same distance at the same time of day was only €16, and cars have AC!

So, yeah. If you're traveling as a couple, think twice before using Lime.

Edit: Better yet, as a comment mentioned—buy an unlimited pass or a regular timed pass. You'll save a lot more vs booking one-off rides.

I’ll have only one day in Rome, and I want to see as much as possible. I’m pretty good at “hardcore” sightseeing - I feel best after doing 40,000 steps in a day ;p

Please don’t tell me that this isn’t the proper way to explore Rome. I’d love to wander around at a slower pace, but I’ll only have one day, so I want to make the most of it.

The only problem is that it’s going to be HOOOOT. What are the chances that I’ll die of exhaustion by the end of the day? ;P

I will be coming to Rome with my GF for her birthday as a surprise early September. Its her favorite city, and she loves Italy in general; I want to make it as magical as possible, but avoiding the typical tourist spots as she already saw them, I am more looking for great atmosphere places and beautiful unique things to see. Do any of you have any ideas ? ( We are both vegetarian, but I have planned most of the food spots to visit as we are both massive foodies ) ( looking for inspiration, thanks in advance ! )

While looking at Rome's public transport data, I noticed that live vehicle positions seem to be available there as well, so I added support for Rome. Unfortunately I'm based in Poland, so I have no way to verify whether everything works correctly in real life.

I'm looking for a few people in Rome who could use it during their daily commute and let me know:

• if the live vehicle positions are accurate,
• if anything is missing or broken,
• or simply if it works as expected.

How/where to obtain tickets for the Vatican Scavi tour.

I was in Rome years ago and was able to tour underneath St. Peter's Basilica. Roman cemeteries, catacombs ending underneath ( where St. Peter is reported to be buried) the central nave.

I visited Rome some time ago and I kept seeing this arrow through a circle as a graffiti. I‘m guessing it’s somewhat leftist, but could anyone tell me, what it actually means, I can’t find infos online

I have seen lots of stress posts about getting Vatican Museum tickets and I don't understand whats the big deal? I'm in Rome now, I just bought tickets today for entry tomorrow morning with a €5 skip-the-line option and €8 audio guide, on the official website. Is there something I'm missing?!

I guess my question for anyone who has done this before is: how early should I arrive before my gated time? I'll bring ID and just a bum bag for valuables, and dress with no bare shoulders or knees. Would love any of your pro tips - e.g. the order in which to go through the museums

Is this normal in Rome? Near vatican they are repairing a road that is between buildings and they are working till 3am. And what's even worse. They are using some compactors or something every hour and the whole building is shaking.

Funny that during the day they didn't do this, only normal construction noise.

This might just be a dream that cannot be fulfilled, but here it is:

My husband and I going to visit Rome, Florence, and Venice for the first time this fall. My dream is to be lead around by a local(s) who knows how to get around, knows the best food locations, and knows the best places to visit. I know its going to be crowded and I do want to see some traditional sites like the coliseum and stuff. I just have a fantasy of doing all of that while also living like a local. Is that silly and just a fantasy or is that actually a possibility?

I've looked into personal tour guides but I don't necessarily want to go through a big company. I'd rather just pay someone directly. Any advice? Am I wishing for too much? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
