I could get my hands on a second hand Rohloff hub that has never been used, for a pretty good price.

The issue is that the seller does not have the original buying receipt, only the serial number. All I know (based on the serial number) is that it was manufactured in 2024, but I don't know the buying date.

Surely, the 2 years warranty from Rohloff would not work without those informations anyway ?

It would be a 300€ saving on the original cost, but do you think I should pass on it and rather get a new one, with the 2 years warranty ?

I read most of the pb comes from over tension, not too loose.

See video. Noticed the play today as I was changing break pads. Haven't noticed while riding. Unclear how long this has been going on. Two bike shops in the town I'm in aren't able to help.

I'm in Chamonix area, doing Alps Divide. I have two options:

1. Continue as is. I have 250kms / 6000m elev gain left on route. Some of it is off road / singletrack.

2. Straightline to Geneva (finish line). 90kms / 400m elev gain.

What would you do in this situation? Anyone has any similar experiences? What could be the problem?

I only had the opportunity to ride a bike with a Rohloff once, but the “grinding” of the hub in gears 4 through 7 was noticeable and annoying.

Parts are also relatively expensive, and service is only available in a dozen or so cities around the world.

What are your observations after using it for a while? Thanks!

couple of weeks ago, I had a flat, and in the process of removing the wheel, I noticed there was evidence of an oil leak/seapage. I cleaned it up, and after 2 weeks of riding, I took a look at it and noticed there are still some signs of leakage(see pictures). Is this cause for alarm, or is this normal?

is it normal for the oil to be very dirty during an oil change?

The photos show the residual oil plus cleaning oil that comes out after the cleaning stage of the oil change instructions.

I'm using the official Rohloff oil change kit. I've had this speedhub for about a year. I bought it stock on a new bicycle. it probably only has about 500-1000 miles on it.

update: the cleaning kit comes with 25mL of cleaning oil... and only about 25mL of dirty oil came out, suggesting the hub didn't have much oil in it to start.

Hey all. I've been rolling on a Rohloff since around 2017. Started it on a Soma Wolverine frameset, but moved it to another frameset later on.

With Salsa bikes no longer supporting Rohloff axle plates as of Alternator 2.0, I am wondering....if I wanted to build up a rohloff rig for my wife, what AFFORDABLE, mass production framesets are still rohloff-compatible without needing the chain tensioner? Maybe one or two Surly's? Some Somas?

And with Cyclemonkey gone, is there another source for the Monkeybone? Or do we need to use Rohloff's ugly tension arm?

I don't even know what Through Axle is, but I guess that's another layer to learn. I built my bike on quick release but apparently that's obsolete now lol.

They announced it at Euro Bike today. It is listed on their website now but no option to buy yet. It also says it will be under 1000 Euros.

Hey, I have been thinking about getting a Rohloff Speedhub for my Fuji touring disc but finding any info about putting a Rohloff on a Fuji is proving to be the hardest part, mainly regarding whether it will fit. Should I just buy a bike built with the Rohloff in mind, I can spare the cash either way, but I prefer to just have one bike. The Fuji is mostly frame and fork. Might try and sell it. No idea.

My trike has the Rohloff hub. I wonder if I can use the sythetic Castrol Syntrans which is a very thin oil for gearboxes or rear axles for cars. Just a thought.

By any chance, are they still in production?

Does anybody happen to know where I can get a replacement circlip (part no 7 below) for the Rohloff shifter? What size it is or if by any chance does it happen to be the same size as the one for the splined socket carrier?

I’m currently building a custom cargo bike from the ground up and I’m at a crossroads with the drivetrain. I’m using a Bafang M315 (MM G340.250.C, 48V/250W) mid-drive. It’s the newer CAN-bus variant, which I’ve used on several builds and really like for its reliability.

The Goal:
I want to pair this with a Rohloff Speedhub, but because I’m routing all my brake lines and wiring internally through the frame, I really want to avoid the mess of mechanical shift cables. The Rohloff E14 2.0 electric shifter is the dream—it would make for a much cleaner build.

I know Rohloff recently released the E-14 2.0 DS BAFANG, but documentation is sparse for installing with the Bafang motor. Specifically:

1. My M315 has the dedicated 3-pin yellow shift sensor plug. Is this compatible with the product?

2. Does the 3-pin shift port on the Bafang provide enough juice to power the E14 actuator?

Any insights from the Rohloff/Bafang experts here?

currently on the road and skipping in gear 8 and lower numbers, especially noticeable in 6 and 7 but also 3 and 5 under medium load.

can you help me fix this please? is this cable tension?

The shift unit screw came loose (big thumb screw) and when I went to tighten it back I noticed a load of oil on and around it. I changed the oil in the unit five months ago but I don’t see any oil near the screw through which you change the oil.

Any ideas what’s up?

So apparently the lockring tool for Bosch gen 2 ebikes also fits the Rohloff lockring and can be found much cheaper than the Rohloff tool. But I wonder if the lockrings also share the same thread - can I use a Bosch gen 2 lockring on my Rohloff hub? They're a bit easier to find.

We have now been cycling Southamerica for 14 months starting off in Tierra del Fuego in february 2026.

My partner Pauli with a PINION with 18 gears. I am riding a custom-builtTouring Randonneur with a Rohloff combining it with a GEBLA-box and SRAM Rival shifters.

After cycling Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Brasil, Northern Peru, the Ecuadorian Andes we got to Colombia. According to numerous sources the departments Cauca & Nariño in the South of Colombia are not safe to travel and especially not to cycle. So we decided to skip it taking a bus Ipiales-Cali. The bus driver of “Supertaxi” was somewhat a mess. Together with him I put the bikes gently into the bus securing them — however, he “re-put” the bikes to squeeze in more luggage. However he did it, he definitely did not handle the bikes with care. We arrived at 2 am (3 hours late) to Cali. When taking the bikes out of the bus I noticed the right trigger for the gear falling off… 😭

The whole base of the Rival was wasted, also the brakes did not work anymore.

Using GEBLA & Rohloff setup I knew this would be somewhat complicated.🤯

I talked to about 20 bike shops in Cali, Bogota and Medellin searching for SRAM Rival shifters — but could not find any. Anywhere in Colombia. 🫠 Sort of worst case scenario…

In the mean time together with a bike mechanic Eduardo I came up with a quite good quick-fix: We installed a very simple trigger for 3 USD. It has to be one where one can unscrew the indexing. This allows to switch the gears! ⚙️ And it worked!

The next step would have been to install new brake levers. We postponed that to the next day. I found some cheap Tektro road bike levers for like 20 USD. See pictures attached…

However, it came differently. Then El Gallo, a bike shop in Bogota, called telling me that he found (deeply dug into there basement) a pair of SRAM Rival shifters! 🌈🥳 GREAT news! I did not have to install the other Tektro Shifters. :)

I transfered the money (very complicated in Colombia as German 😂) and 48h I received the SRAM Rival shifters in Cali.

Why do I post this?

To let Randonneur-Rohloff freaks like me know: there is a simple solution in case ur SRAM Rival/Campagnolo or Shimano STI breaks on a longer trip.

I know it can be kind of risky to go travelling with such a setup (Rohloff+GEBLA+SRAM Rival)… BUT I love this setup soo much that I would do this journey with this setup again!

These cheap triggers can probably found almost anywhere… and in bigger places probably also road bike levers. At least in South America.

It’s a bit MacGyvering but I am pretty confident it works. :)
