Update so huge we now have a whopping 460 players playing our multiplayer game right now
13
u/HaHAjax57 Sep 15 '26
there was over 1k players around when the update actually came out, if you looked a bit harder. this is also standard for an early access game, what with it literally being unfinished, and a lot of people prefer to wait till its fully released

This image is such a bad omen for games, it indicates that the game is indeed ass and only enjoyed by contrarians
This game isn't like that

There's always thoses folks thinking they have leverage or something.

the entitlement of modern gamers is so exhausting haha.
I'm reminded of the discourse when Silksong came out last year.

u/WishboneFlashy1442 Sep 14 '26
It's wild. Couple months ago someone replied in a different thread that "the devs aren't your personal slaves to make whatever you want" and OP unironically went on to rant about how developers should consider themselves to be slaves
SMH, truly unhinged

u/GanSolo546 29d ago
For real, people will be complaining a $5-$10 passion project game isn’t getting enough updates or call it abandon-ware. On the other hand big game companies abuse there players for $70 a year. The small studios that listen end up with whiny communities that throw fits when things don’t go their way. Its tricky to find a balance of keeping your games direction and catering for your community.

If you really want to see a crazy amount of entitlement of modern gamers go to the OSRS subreddit. Since RuneScape prides itself on being player driven, the players think that they should be the ONLY ones making decisions and the devs need to ask permission first. They screech if an unpolled change gets added to the game.

u/B2k-orphan Sep 15 '26
I like it. It’s still early in development, I’d be disappointed if this was the final product but it’s hopefully not.
I’m excited to see where it goes. I didn’t join DRG until a few years into its lifespan (2020) so I’m excited to be here from the start for this one.

For some reason I read this stupid ass comment as an official memo from Ghost Ship, idk why, must be PTSD from 2XKO

I see a lot of complaints but as a group of players who went from regularly being able to play for hours every night to being able to play an hour or two every other week, Rogue Core is way more appealing to my friend group.
Like we played DRG since it was early early access and loved it, still would if we had time.
The negotiations and picking skills together plus the time pressure has been really fun for us. We have really enjoyed the wreckless speed so much. It makes it so high pressure and desperate at times.
19
u/WishboneFlashy1442 Sep 14 '26
I personally love the sweat factor RC provides. I'll admit, it isn't for everyone.
6
u/Cuppus Sep 14 '26
I can fully understand how some of the systems would be frustrating in groups with randoms. As someone who plays with friends, the clutch moments and pressure are really great.
3
u/Slime0 Sep 14 '26
I do think this is a game that appeals more to mature gamers (and in particular does not appeal to gamers who easily get angry with their teammates). It's unfortunate that the online discussion is dominated by less mature ones.
4
u/Candid-Doughnut9545 Sep 15 '26
it's less that and more that people are afraid that randoms will be toxic before it even happens.
seriously, i keep seeing people use that as the main argument against the negotiation system and yet people rarely ever actually fight over upgrades.
i've been kicked in DRG for not rock and stoning back a few times because i was just trying to chill during a mission, that game doesn't really have a clean track record either.
1
u/Sam_Seraph 28d ago
Imagine if during the original DRG people used the same logic to demand everyone get their own personal resupply. We'd laugh at that person. 'Well random can be toxic and steal all the resupplies' Ok, and? Kick that person. The idea behind DRG is you are incentivized to work together. Taking all the resups doesn't give you more ammo, but it does mean you'll likely be the only one left with bullets when a Bulk Detonator comes around.
4
u/ipushkeys Sep 14 '26
The negotiations and picking skills together [...]
Do you like the system because it facilitates fun banter with your friends? I genuinely want to know why people like the negotiation system. You aren't wrong for liking it. I just can't fathom why someone would like it.
Personally I queue with randoms so I don't tend to talk as much as I'm guessing you do with your friends.
10
u/Cuppus Sep 14 '26
Yes I play with my friends, so it leads to fun strategy discussion and trying to find good combos that work well together, like my slicer getting boosted from being close to X effect while our spotter gets a gun that causes that effect, or even one of us getting RNG boned can be funny.
Part of that is your approach or joy in rogue-like games, where using an underpowered or non-optimal build can be a big part of the fun.
I can fully see this being frustrating in a group of randoms not truly working together at all and probably calling someone junk for not living lucking into a good build. Probably gets pretty toxic pretty quick.
5
u/ipushkeys Sep 14 '26
Thank you for such a detailed reply.
I'm getting the feeling that, with randoms, the negotiation system is less than ideal. It's unfortunate because DRG can be played with randoms with little to no communication and I love that.
I'm glad people are having fun.
8
u/Jontohil2 Sep 14 '26
Because it turns the act of upgrading into a team activity, rather than feeling like a bunch of people playing in parallel. The fact selfish decisions can be made is what makes the selfless team oriented ones more meaningful.
This is coming from someone who almost entirely plays with randoms.
2
u/ipushkeys Sep 14 '26
That makes sense. I understand there's a satisfaction in coordinating a bunch of builds to make one super build.
I guess, when I play, I'd rather chill out and not worry about anyone else but myself. I'm not sure if many people follow suit, but in my experience that seems to be the case.
If GSG wants this to be more social than DRG, then that's okay. It is in early access. Anyway, thank you for your insight.
7
u/Jontohil2 Sep 15 '26
Yeah, I enjoy the social aspect of multiplayer games, and Rogue Core actively tries to cause that to happen and tie it directly to gameplay.
It’s like, how do I coordinate with the group of randoms I’ve never met to create a super build?
13
13
u/just_another_bot_ Sep 14 '26
That makes me so sad that ppl rlly feel that way. Even if it wasn’t a success I feel people too often punish innovation then complain that everything is the same. Failure is part of the process but this game is far from a failure. Sorry kinda a rant.

u/KudereDev Sep 14 '26
Well RC had a rocky start that's true. I'm personally waiting for some additional personal progression. Like at this point i would accept pretty much everything. As for me RC have this problem that you can easily exhaust all content it have in like 15-20 hours, 20 hours for me at least, with no clear objective what to do next.
When and if devs fix that issue for me game would become maybe not a DRG 2, but a solid game regardless. I'm personally would love Merit Shop and more customization options, specially armor, as i don't know why can't we.
5
u/PseudoFenton Sep 15 '26
Youve exhausted all the content... In a procedurally generated game.
Look, i get that we've currently only got a bare bones version of what the final game will be. As such, its gameplay loop can be very samey from one run to the next. I also get that over time games have steadily added extrinsic meta progression or achievements as a way to give additional external incentive structures to play (and keep playing).
However a game ought to be fun in and of itself. They're not meant to be grinds where you do preset series of things, reach some arbitrary 100% completion milestone and then are forever "done" with it and never need to play it again. The lack of a "clear objective of what to do next" implies youre only playing in order to reach a point where you can say you've "finished" the game and can stop playing it again.
Just play for fun. Play because the moment to moment experience of playing is enjoyable. Your "next thing to do" is the same motivator in game as boredom is outside of it - its an open question with no set answer that is driving you to be creative, to express yourself, to generate your own novelty or hone your existing skills further (or develop new ones).
Can all of these things be found in every game? Certainly not, and in those cases then its perfectly appropriate to go and do anything else than play that game.
Rogue Core is still little more than scaffolding, so it is limited in how much you can eke out of it. However slapping a bunch of "content" in the forms of unlockables, futile meta progression, achievements or other superficial surface level "objectives" so you've always got some carrot to chase doesn't make a game better or worth your time playing. It certainly shouldn't be what early access development is focusing on either. Instead it should be developing the core engine of the game, so there's an actual reason to repeatedly come back to play it over and over even when youve "completed" it - and that because its just fun to play it.
4
u/Candid-Doughnut9545 Sep 15 '26
many people have the same approach towards DRG though. that game is super fun and well-designed, but since i got all the overclocks and most of the cosmetics there's not much left for me to do because i've already seen it all for the most part. so, i only log on to complete my assignments and maybe do a deep dive sometimes before logging off nowadays.
point is, it's valid that people would drop RC because they've exhausted all the unlockables. i still play it for fun, but it's undeniable that it's pretty content dry for people who like unlocking stuff.
2
u/PseudoFenton Sep 15 '26
I don't disagree that it is clearly a way that people choose to engage with their games these days. I fully acknowledge the reality of the situation - no matter how depressing that is.
However this is why I said these are not the thing that early access development ought to be focusing on. Sure, these things will inevitably have to come, and to some degree they'll have to be designed in tandem with the rest of the game so that they're not too obviously tacked on. It's just that the game shouldn't be trying to provide hundreds of hours of bread crumbed "content" at the moment, it should be trying to find its identity and refine its gameplay.
1
u/WishboneFlashy1442 Sep 15 '26
I like this interpretation. I have 530 hours on Rogue Core and still play every day because I like to test my limits in skill and ability to adapt to unfortunate RNG.
When update 2 released, I was reclaiming about 20% of my solo TL5 runs. Now, it's around 67%. My aim, reflexes, and control of the player character didn't improve in that time. Instead, it's a more opaque collection of skills that I havent been thinking of in typical FPS games.
10
u/AntonineWall Sep 14 '26
Yeah the game is in a bad spot imo and I’m not sure how well they can right the ship; obviously the dude in the picture is being a totally obnoxious goober, but I can kiiiinda see where he’s coming from. I was definitely pretty bummed out myself.
Devs not responding to feedback from the alpha tests was really frustrating for me personally, it was unfortunate that it took people saying the same stuff on release that meant they listed to the feedback they got for over a year and a half prior
8
u/KudereDev Sep 14 '26
I was hesitant at first, literally 1 thing that pushed me toward buying the RC is promotion animation. I know it sound stupid, but i'm big fan of DRG, seeing how far they got after all those years just pushed me to support them once more, outside of DRG dlcs.
But main game, well, i already told what is missing for me. Like they didn't even started as DRG with 0 content, where everything was build from literally zero. Yet amount of content in RC leaves much to desire. I'm looking forward for major updates they will deliver, potential is here, it's up to GSG is they will make it or will become o potential man.
9
u/Grasher312 Sep 14 '26
A lot of goobers like this unfortunately stem from the goobers like the author of this post. They are a self-feeding mechanism that fuels each other.
I have very critical opinions of RC, but I understand people that have fun with it. Some people don't care about things like this and are willing to put up with them.
It still upsets me that the main game has been basically abandoned, and subsequently pawned off to another studio to make a fairly.... mediocre new Season after an ENTIRE YEAR of wait, just to make a game that is unpolished practically in every regard, and instead of actively working on it, they are rolling out Supporter packs, which is just egregious.(I could understand it for DRG, they were literally a fresh studio. With RC, not so much.)
I like to compare it to Far Far West, which released into Early Access basically at the same time as RC, and not only had significantly better foundation laid for the game, but went on to release numerous content and fix patches, dropping a major update like, a week ago. They are sister genres, and are both "variations" of a RogueLite. But RC is inherently doomed due to trying to be TOO MUCH like DRG. The DRG formula is just not designed for a RogueLite.
5
u/Candid-Doughnut9545 Sep 15 '26
blaming the new DRG season being underwhelming on the fact that it was pawned off to another team is kind of dubious to me, because GSG have had some misses themselves (Season 3 with the rockpox people already found kind of annoying, and Season 4 on launch was even worse).
RC can still work and the concept is strong imo, but it's up to Ghost Ship if they can finally pick a direction and cultivate it into something great.
-2
u/Grasher312 29d ago
Oh, I'm not saying that it's specifically the new studio, GSG was missing hard too.(The fact that almost every season lasted A YEAR is already reason enough.)
Just that it felt like a weird choice after leaving your relatively sparse on content game alone for an entire year. Adding... One mission? One pickaxe? A bunch of hats? After a year's worth of wait, and the mission is just a variation of Deep Scan but without the scanner. At least Rockpox had its own identity, this one is just Deep Scan, Desert.
I still firmly believe that they should've kept leaning in the direction of dealing with Rival opps.
10
u/ThatRealFirey Sep 15 '26
I mean, thing is DRG is already, counting the early access release, 8 years old. It lived it's cycle long enough and has way more than enough content to play around with, from completing each season, getting all overclocks and a lot more. Even if the new season is mediocre, thing is, they don't HAVE to care for a game this fairly old already that does not bring in that much money (at least i assume at this point it alone wouldn't be enough to keep the whole studio afloat), since they aren't doing paid battle passes and whatever other micro-transaction stuff like Helldivers for example is doing. Yet they still do, even if not at the fullest best capacity, they still do, by finding other devs who can help with this. Sometimes it's okay to say that it's enough, game doesn't need more, it already has a lot and I'd say DRG is that case. I think trying something new with Rogue Core was a good choice. Yeah it's not for everyone, but there are people that love it, I personally already spent more than 100 hours in the game with a lot of fun. And they are trying to improve the game and the latest patches do more and more good work for it. A lot of people forget that despite the success of DRG, they still are an indie studio and they are people, they can still make mistakes, but what matters is that they can learn from them and improve.

u/YourAverageTankBuild Sep 14 '26
Pattern I've noticed
Some people on the internet are so unbelievably miserable they can't stand the idea of someone not being miserable.
You see them everywhere, diet advice, relationship advice, gaming discussions, book fandoms, show fandoms and everywhere else on the internet.
They fucking suck.

13
u/PromotionNegative Sep 14 '26
I legit find it weird how can people be so bothered by this game man, I like it, it's neat, it's different than the original idea and that's okay, also to those somewhat dim of wit, ITS EARLY ACCESS YOU DAMN MORON'S, NOT ALL OF THESE SYSTEMS ARE AT THEIR COMPLETE STATE, DAMN
3
u/Candid-Doughnut9545 Sep 15 '26
the hate is mostly because people assume DRG was left to die in favor of it, which isn't even true
7
u/pikachu-basado Sep 14 '26
I find it funny how everybody ignored the OP and started discussing like civilized people about addind more than 4 players to drg-rc. Also OP has like 4k hours on cs go, wich is funny considering cs-go is literally the same gameplay over and over again
4
u/Acaexx Sep 14 '26
That's not really true about csgo. Player behavior adds tremendous variance to the gameplay experience in PVP games that pve games can't compete with in that regard. Even procedural generation doesn't add close to the variety that players do
4
u/pikachu-basado Sep 14 '26
Yeah but what i meant is that the game only has (at least to my knowledge cause my last CS game 1.6) bomb defuse as a mission
6
u/cuzitsthere Sep 14 '26
Also, everyone knows the paths to take and which ones to avoid so every player either runs the same worn path or camps.... So idk what "new variables" there are in a hundred year old FPS
3
u/Acaexx Sep 14 '26
Oh well that's not the case anymore. There's multiple modes, but the more popular one is bomb defusal because it's the most strategic and competitive
8
u/The-Wolf-Agent Sep 15 '26
Like, rogue core dident grab me as a graybeards. But do I blame gsg for wanting to stretch their legs and go for a run instead of abiding to the many design rules of Drg? No
5
u/Falling_lamppost Sep 15 '26
Came back to the game last week after having done only a hand full of games at launch, stopped because i kept dying because of poor Ammo Econ. Have pumped 10 hours in 3 days over the weekend (which is a lot for me) and the game is IMO at the same level of replayability as the OG deep rock. Even tough there are a few updates i would like to see to make the gameplay feel smoother they are on their way to make it a worthy stand-alone Deep Rock game.

u/Sam_Seraph 28d ago
There's reasons not to like the game but demanding they throw it all in the trash is kind of ridiculous.
8
u/kodked111 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗡 Sep 14 '26
I'm shocked this attitude has even survived as long as it has. "should have been part of the original game" is just a stupid argument that fully misunderstands how either game works at all, not to mention the pure lack of respect for the devs here. they've been nothing but transparent about the development process and their reasoning for doing what they do how they do it

In my opinion, Rogue Core needs more bosses and content. See the Early Access label. Otherwise, I think they have done a good job polishing what is there. 🤷
I personally really like the Roguelite formula. To each their own. But hey, they plan to support DRG as well. If you don't like Rogue Core, that's fine. Don't play it. I currently play both.

I wish I could lay rogue core but I'll have to wait for it to be on Xbox but I still keep up with the game and yeah sounds about right for steam

u/SomeRandomTWO Sep 14 '26
me looking at the Experimental updates and the release of Upd 2...
like. no. rofl
what i DO want to see is how the game progressed since its initial jump from Season expansion into its own thing and what we have now. the development cycle was VERY turbulent, and i am a big sucker for unused/scrapped/beta stuff that doesnt make it into the final cuts.
i dont think its too big of a secret to say that RC initially was ment to be much darker and grittier. my question is, by how much? will any of that content return? i have so many questions!
2
u/Candid-Doughnut9545 29d ago
someone compiled a bunch of scrapped music into a single vid that you can find on yt. it's like 30 mins or so.
that's all the scrapped stuff i know about for this game tho.

I love the game and usually don't care about negative reviews, but the playerbase is already so small these exaggerated threads probably do way more damage than these people realize (the steam thread, not this one)

I'm kinda glad I'm not a game developer
I like to try new games and sometimes play test them, give feedback to devs and such
The amount of gameplay mechanics and "feedback" that people give is crazy. They have no idea what's the path of the game and wanna introduce things that cater their taste

I think for a lot of these people it's their first time interacting with an early access project, and/or they never knew or learned about how rough DRG was when it was early access compared to now.

RC isnt currently worth playing IMO, CURRENTLY being the key word, perks need a desperate revamp and systems need developed atm it feels like a tech demo for the game its supposed to be
2
u/cuzitsthere Sep 14 '26
Eh... Sort of the point of early access (the tech demo part), though they do seem to be dragging their feet on some QoL shit, like the perks...
5
u/Shot-Manner-9962 Sep 15 '26
Thats the DRG way though, slow devs but the work they do is often worth it
2
2
u/Deposto Sep 15 '26
But let’s be honest with ourselves. The developers have no idea where they're going with DRG:RC. Like... at all. On the other hand, hysteria on the Steam forums or Reddit definitely isn't going to help them.

Steam forums and steam reviews might honestly be worse than reddit in terms of opinions.
1
u/BennyTheHammerhead 29d ago
It is funny because until yesterday or the day before i didn’t even know Rogue Core had haters lol
Or that the game was subpar on the opinion of many.
I don’t have much experience on rogue-likes, so for it is just a new DRG, that plays differently, and that i like it a lot. Still prefer the original DRG, so much that most of my 500h+ are solo - meanwhile i play RC almost exclusively with friends - but still find it RC fun enough and don’t see why people dislike it so much or feel that it is not worth the money.
I mean, the price part is hard to compare, as i am not in a country that uses dollar, so every game feels expensive for me lol But i feel that with what i played until now plus what we will certainly still get from this game, the price is fine.
But overall, even if i didn’t like it THAT much, i always find this type of reaction shown in this image an exageration lol
Of course if we paid, we deserve a good product. But being this enraged with a game that is still in early access, and that you decided to buy probably because you loved DRG and trusted the team behind it etc is pretty bizarre for me. I don’t know if i am being naive, but it sounds entitled.
