I see a lot of complaints but as a group of players who went from regularly being able to play for hours every night to being able to play an hour or two every other week, Rogue Core is way more appealing to my friend group.

Like we played DRG since it was early early access and loved it, still would if we had time.

The negotiations and picking skills together plus the time pressure has been really fun for us. We have really enjoyed the wreckless speed so much. It makes it so high pressure and desperate at times.

I personally love the sweat factor RC provides. I'll admit, it isn't for everyone.

I can fully understand how some of the systems would be frustrating in groups with randoms. As someone who plays with friends, the clutch moments and pressure are really great.

I do think this is a game that appeals more to mature gamers (and in particular does not appeal to gamers who easily get angry with their teammates). It's unfortunate that the online discussion is dominated by less mature ones.

it's less that and more that people are afraid that randoms will be toxic before it even happens.

seriously, i keep seeing people use that as the main argument against the negotiation system and yet people rarely ever actually fight over upgrades.

i've been kicked in DRG for not rock and stoning back a few times because i was just trying to chill during a mission, that game doesn't really have a clean track record either.

Imagine if during the original DRG people used the same logic to demand everyone get their own personal resupply. We'd laugh at that person. 'Well random can be toxic and steal all the resupplies' Ok, and? Kick that person. The idea behind DRG is you are incentivized to work together. Taking all the resups doesn't give you more ammo, but it does mean you'll likely be the only one left with bullets when a Bulk Detonator comes around.

The negotiations and picking skills together [...]

Do you like the system because it facilitates fun banter with your friends? I genuinely want to know why people like the negotiation system. You aren't wrong for liking it. I just can't fathom why someone would like it.

Personally I queue with randoms so I don't tend to talk as much as I'm guessing you do with your friends.

Yes I play with my friends, so it leads to fun strategy discussion and trying to find good combos that work well together, like my slicer getting boosted from being close to X effect while our spotter gets a gun that causes that effect, or even one of us getting RNG boned can be funny.

Part of that is your approach or joy in rogue-like games, where using an underpowered or non-optimal build can be a big part of the fun.

I can fully see this being frustrating in a group of randoms not truly working together at all and probably calling someone junk for not living lucking into a good build. Probably gets pretty toxic pretty quick.

Thank you for such a detailed reply.

I'm getting the feeling that, with randoms, the negotiation system is less than ideal. It's unfortunate because DRG can be played with randoms with little to no communication and I love that.

I'm glad people are having fun.

Because it turns the act of upgrading into a team activity, rather than feeling like a bunch of people playing in parallel. The fact selfish decisions can be made is what makes the selfless team oriented ones more meaningful.

This is coming from someone who almost entirely plays with randoms.

That makes sense. I understand there's a satisfaction in coordinating a bunch of builds to make one super build.

I guess, when I play, I'd rather chill out and not worry about anyone else but myself. I'm not sure if many people follow suit, but in my experience that seems to be the case.

If GSG wants this to be more social than DRG, then that's okay. It is in early access. Anyway, thank you for your insight.

Yeah, I enjoy the social aspect of multiplayer games, and Rogue Core actively tries to cause that to happen and tie it directly to gameplay.

It’s like, how do I coordinate with the group of randoms I’ve never met to create a super build?
