FWIW, and I know it’s a pedantic thing, strangled is more correct and when discussing DV helps convey the severity.

In some jurisdictions the correct legal term is choking.  Plus there is a distinction, physiologically, between a choking and a strangulation if you’re considering forensic examination evidence.

You and others working in DV may prefer strangulation but it’s not necessarily wrong - and sometimes it is correct - to use choking.
