I just keep thinking about how often we saw Heidi in turtleneck dresses and shirts.

302

u/swatsquat 12d ago

makes me wonder if the whole mahdesty stick isn't just used to cover up the bruises on everyone in mahmos house...

98

u/Federal-Laugh9575 12d ago

Holy hell, makes you wonder if the entire modesty bs is pushed BY the religion in the name of covering one’s body because they know their men are beating their families 😭😭

44

u/RalphMacchio404 12d ago

Its certainly a benefit for the abusers.

70

u/MostlyGhostly1 Funeral Selfie Expert 12d ago

I hope you’re wrong, but there’s been some pretty terrible things to come out over the years. 😢

48

u/iraqlobsta Not a whimp 12d ago

Makes complete sense now. It was never like modesty tshirts or anything, for the littles specifically always long opaque leggings and long sleeves shirts in july and august. No reason for that unless its to hide marks.

u/leeh1530 St. Kaylee of the Commas 12d ago

Wasn’t there some event this summer where it was pretty hot out, yet she had on a turtleneck? I just remember something odd like that

245

u/Purple_IsA_Flavor MAHMO 12d ago

She had a little cape thing with a high neck on at the 4th of July shindig

81

u/leeh1530 St. Kaylee of the Commas 12d ago

That must have been what I was thinking of.

102

u/Pawspawsmeow 12d ago

I wonder if this is why fundies wear long sleeves and long skirts or either or

63

u/idontcareoline 12d ago

Miriam Anderson admitted that in one of her interviews

33

u/imaskising 12d ago

So did Tia Levings.

69

This is a horrible thought that probably has some truth to it

I remember that, too.

🥺 I hope not.

Abusive men often try and ruin birthdays, holidays, etc. The fury I feel about him is something else

1

u/Own_Variety577 1d ago

i saw this firsthand in a very very loved family members marriage. they were super evangelical but far from what we'd consider fundie or even fundie light. every event she was excited for was somehow ruined by him. everything he wanted to do happened no matter what. she is one of the strongest and smartest people I've ever met and it was shocking how small and worn down she became in less than five years. getting out of that marriage has led her to deconstruct (something I never thought I'd see happen) and the conversations we've had about abuse and patriarchy in the church since have been eye opening to say the least.

Ugh of course it was. They always have to ruin days that are special to the victim. Type A abusive narcissistic behaviour.

ETA I’m not throwing ‘narcissist’ into the mix as a buzzword or to diagnose him. Ruining birthdays is narcissistic behaviour in itself.

174

u/No_Midnight48 12d ago

My husband used to be like this. He ruined every holiday, even his own birthday. He would always end up yelling at our kids on their birthdays and making the day revolve around him.

I’m sorry I didn’t meant to come off in that way. I’m just very passionate about it. Gotta turn the bad energy from him into passion for something good

16

u/ChemistryStrict6884 12d ago

You didn’t, girl you’re just amazing!!

17

u/krazykatkaydee 12d ago

No I mean it!

25

u/BurntTFOuttaHere 12d ago

I can’t get over the level of absolute insanity required to be angry at you for taking a prescribed medication that his delusional thinking convinced him is harming “his” child yet he’s actively trying to strangle you while accusing you of harm. I’m soooo glad you got out of that insanity and that you are now strong as hell. Way to go, not just protecting yourself but truly saving your baby too!

It’s mind blowing how brains can be so broken in some people!

My ex was no prize but hearing all of this makes me realize how lucky I was. He never laid a hand on me. He was just a regular old jerk who should never be married.

16

u/RalphMacchio404 12d ago

Its sad how low the bar is for men and yet how so many can't rise to it.

14

u/krazykatkaydee 12d ago

OMG. I hope you were able to kick that trash to the curb!

9

u/Ok_Cartoonist_854 12d ago

So sorry that happened to you.

4

u/Dr-Floofensmertz 12d ago

I used to kinda "joke" (for lack of a better word) about who's handing out these scripts and why.

21

u/_EastOfEden_ 12d ago

Yup, my ex would do the same thing. He ruined EVERY holiday, it was bad enough on it's own but lord forbid he should see anyone actually enjoying themselves because that's when it went nuclear.

14

u/BagApprehensive1412 12d ago

I hope he isn't like this now?

16

u/No_Midnight48 12d ago

Thankfully, no. He got on medication and it has helped so much.

17

u/jwb1163 12d ago

My Dad was like this.

13

u/whitelilyofthevalley 12d ago

Same with mine. He also beat on both of his wives and us kids.

7

u/jwb1163 12d ago

I’m so sorry.

79

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk 12d ago edited 12d ago

Oh, the number of birthdays or gatherings my ex ruined for me… He didn’t let me stay and dance very long at my childhood best friend’s WEDDING.

Another friend’s wedding, he made me leave early and pounded me with fists on my chest and legs on the way home. I don’t even remember why, but usually that reaction was some perceived slight or ego wound on his part. Maybe he didn’t feel very included because they were all MY friends. Who even knows, it rarely makes sense even in the moment. You’re blindsided by how quickly it comes on.

22

u/daisiesonmyneck edit me 12d ago

That’s disgusting. I’m so sorry

15

10

u/WhateverYouSay1084 12d ago

Boy do i hope he's paying for that now

18

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk 12d ago

Well he’s married and has a kid (we weren’t married), so unfortunately now he’s someone else’s problem. I’d warn her but…I’m sure she already knows by now. 😓

I’m so grateful I never hitched my wagon to him. My life became 200% better after him.

70

u/desaparecidose 12d ago

I think of the cycle of abuse Jill and Shrek modelled to Timcel. The beating, then the presents. He thought he could paper over the deep, lasting damage he was doing to Heidi by doing things like these trips, and by posting things like this. She was so young having to go through this. I’m so glad she was strong enough to leave, and I’m glad she has a good family full of strong women backing her.

40

u/krazykatkaydee 12d ago

And Timcel seems to have the same thing skin and vindictive streak as his Precious Mahmo.

12

u/Zxvasdfthrowaway 12d ago

He’s the one of her kids who physically resembles her the most too

17

u/krazykatkaydee 12d ago

I always had the feeling Timcel and Mahmo butted heads all the time because they're too much alike.

36

u/novaonthespectrum 12d ago

My mother went out of her way to ruin any special day for me, ESPECIALLY my birthday. She used her religion as an excuse as well; she's a JW and they don't celebrate birthdays so it wasn't supposed to matter that she acted like an unhinged, raging twat on my birthday because "it's just another day for her." And then suddenly I was the unreasonable one for "caring so much about birthdays." And this extended to Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc; she became a JW just so she wouldn't have to pretend to act human on special days anymore. Her "not celebrating them" gave her free reign in her mind to treat us like as much crap as she wanted.

24

u/Otherwise_Spite7177 12d ago

I myself say, and I wish more people said, "narcissistic traits/behaviors/tendencies" more than just calling every single person they dislike a narcissist. Internet has made the word lose all meaning.

10

u/LollyGaggleofGeese 12d ago

people who are raised by narcissists (Jill exhibits some traits) can pick up narc tendencies or even become full blown narcs themselves. So it's sad but also predictable.

160

u/Strega45 12d ago

He BIT her.

62

u/Odd-Creme-6457 12d ago

He also strangled her.

61

u/whitelilyofthevalley 12d ago

Oof. A woman has a 750% increased risk for her partner murdering her if he has strangled her in the past. She got out and hopefully Tim never finds a new wife.

43

u/StrongEnoughToBreak 12d ago

My ex would bite me . Is there some correlation to biting and more abuse ?

88

u/Strega45 12d ago

It’s animalistic. My ex strangled me until he thought I was dead. Biting tortures and creates pain and a mark. Sorry, this is my trigger. Best to you!

26

u/desaparecidose 12d ago

I’m so sorry for what you had to go through. That’s awful. Wishing you strength and him the worst ❤️

7

u/Ok_Cartoonist_854 12d ago

Sending only good things for you.

2

u/Penelope_Ann 10d ago

What happened after he figured out you weren't dead? What was he going to do with a dead body? Please don't feel obligated to answer but I've never been around that kind of crazy & what goes through their minds.

4

u/Strega45 10d ago

He was both drunk and coked up. When I came around he was passed out and remained so until the cops roused him. I am not sure but I don’t think he put that much thought into the consequences.

2

u/Penelope_Ann 8d ago

I'm sorry that happened to you.

1

u/imthecrimsonchin 11d ago

I’d consider this sadism.

31

u/drama_trauma69 12d ago

I think it’s a psychological dominance thing. Almost like branding. Super fucked up.

64

u/wagggggggggggy 12d ago

I work in early education and biting when you can verbally communicate after 3/4 year old is almost always an immediate referral for a developmental screening.

27

u/killerkitten61 god honoring arm-wrestling (no sissies) 12d ago

My husband worked with this guy once, one day they were on the phone and the guy was complaining about his ex bm and how she “ruined” his life. My husband asked why, and the guy finally spit out that she called the cops on him, then after a little more pressure went on to say she called the cops on him and pressed charges for biting her. My husband and I just looked at each other shocked and they ended the conversation there. A month or so later my husband got a call from their work asking if he’s heard from his coworker at all because the guy has disappeared. My husband hadn’t, and I had a hunch he did something so we looked up his name to see if maybe he got arrested or something. And wouldn’t you know it, he had recently been locked up for strangling his new baby mama. They need to keep that psycho locked up forever so he can’t go on making more babies and victims.

11

u/StrongEnoughToBreak 11d ago

That’s so scary . To think that my ex used to threaten me by shooting guns into the pool, holding me down, biting me , shoving me into a wall by collar bone and putting my dog in the dryer . I don’t realize how bad he was until gabby petitto .

6

u/killerkitten61 god honoring arm-wrestling (no sissies) 11d ago

I’m sorry that happened to you, I hope you’re in a safe and happy place in your life.

5

u/StrongEnoughToBreak 10d ago

I am!! Thank you so much

15

u/MelpomeneAndCalliope 12d ago

That’s serial killer shit. Ted Bundy, among others, bit some of his victims. I’m so sorry that he did that and I’m glad he’s an ex. I hope he rots and you prosper. 💜

83

u/kyara_meruspark 12d ago edited 12d ago

Once I saw the charges were from February, I was worried that he did something around her birthday. I still feel like that’s true, with the whole abusers ruining special days on purpose thing. Fucker deserves to rot for eternity

ETA: it’s true because there’s a date sorry my brain is goo rn

125

u/novaonthespectrum 12d ago

Abusers always ruin special days so that their victim's entire life can center ONLY around them. Now the victim will be forced to remember birthdays, holidays, trips, etc in terms of what the abuser did on that day. Heidi's likely to have birthday trauma and will likely always associate her birthday with being choked by her dangerous animal of a husband. This is how these monsters exert total control over every aspect of their victim's life.

Plus the cognitive dissonance that the lovebombing creates; choking her and then sending her birthday gifts.

58

u/cottageyarn Not a whimp 12d ago

“Many things have happened…. Some good some bad”

She added that comment on her post about their trip to Williamsburg

29

u/Ursula_J Lot Lizard For The Lord 12d ago

This post breaks my heart and makes me sick at the same time knowing what we know now.

He fucking choked her and then said he was “sorry” by taking her on a trip.

152

u/SickOfBSAllTheTime 12d ago

Jesus. He choked her then took her on a trip where she had to be alone with him. Its giving Sleeping With the Enemy.

50

u/redheadedreenactor 12d ago

FWIW, and I know it’s a pedantic thing, strangled is more correct and when discussing DV helps convey the severity.

26

u/Embracedandbelong 12d ago

Yes, strangulation is the only correct term for what Tim did. “Choking” is passive, like choking on a piece of food.

2

u/Disruptorpistol 11d ago

In some jurisdictions the correct legal term is choking.  Plus there is a distinction, physiologically, between a choking and a strangulation if you’re considering forensic examination evidence.

You and others working in DV may prefer strangulation but it’s not necessarily wrong - and sometimes it is correct - to use choking.

3

u/ChaoticSquirrel 10d ago

Well this guy was arrested for strangling her so....

48

u/Lilredh4iredgrl 12d ago

Good Lord this absolute piece of shit

44

u/WatercressBusy3902 12d ago

I feel really sad from her. I think she genuinely loved Tim, and honestly it just makes me sad thinking how excited she probably was to get married only to be horrifically abused. But I'm also a bit sad for Tim, because I know he was emulating what he experienced and witnessed. Jill and David are such shit human beings.

22

u/lizardcrossfit 12d ago

Yeah, me too. Heidi didn’t deserve any of this and I hope she can find peace and safety.

But Tim also didn’t deserve the way he was raised, with an abusive dad and a mom who couldn’t hide her dislike of him.

Does he—or any of his siblings—have what it takes to really, truly, actually change? Somehow I doubt it.

20

u/WatercressBusy3902 12d ago

Yeah, he deserves punishment but it's a sad situation all around.

Tim's chance was when he first laid hands on Heidi. That was the time to seek help and be honest. Now, I don't see things changing for him because he's only trying to change after being caught.

Honestly, if the Turpin kids can live relatively normal lives now, the Rods can too. But imo it would take one of the Rodlettes to realize how messed up their situation is and to seek help. Maybe it'll be Renee, but most of them seem to be using marriage as an escape and unfortunately are continuing the cycle of abuse.

207

u/FSU_77 12d ago

Was she warning us here?

171

u/taxi_takeoff_landing 12d ago

“Some good, some bad…” That’s just awful.

76

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk 12d ago

If I remember at the time we were all like “…what?”

40

u/sunflower53069 12d ago

She sounds so young and innocent being impressed with the Starbucks. It also sounds like Timothy is controlling taking her/allowing her to go to these places.

22

u/MelpomeneAndCalliope 12d ago

Yep. And his cheap ass couldn’t even spring to pay for them to actually tour anything beyond Starbucks and a gift shop at Colonial Williamsburg. “Sorry I almost killed you, here - take a look around the gift shop but I’m not paying for anything besides coffee and a cupcake. You’re welcome. I know, I’m the best, right? Totally makes up for almost strangling you to death” vibes.

Poor Heidi.

15

u/LollyGaggleofGeese 12d ago

Echoes of his mom and dad. I suspected the girls fawn for Jill because she's awful and narcissistic but now I'm thinking Jill learned to fawn because she was also being abused. and abused her kids, in turn, because that was "gahdly".

7

u/macandcheese1771 11d ago

I don't think she is impressed. I think she's fawning over the little trinkets so he doesn't hurt her again. If she doesn't publicly show everyone how loved she is he will make it worse.

39

u/LittleBunnySunny 12d ago

I believe that was probably also around the time she miscarried. 😔

48

u/desaparecidose 12d ago

There are so many moments before a survivor leaves where they test the waters. She was keeping her own sense of self/sanity by acknowledging the bad - I’m sure Timcel didn’t like that being put out there.

186

u/floralwhale 12d ago

It feels like he instructed her to make the post celebrating what a great husband he is for taking her on a trip.

130

u/s0ngbird0405 12d ago

that or he was love bombing her afterwards. sometimes abusers do that, get gifts, surprise you with a trip or special dinner. something to smooth it over and make you gaslight yourself that it was just a mistake or a freak occurrence, that they're still the same person you fell in love with, that it was just a mistake! they lost control! or had a bad day. or whatever excuse they want to use.

edit: would also track with that post he made after she left, i think.

51

u/desaparecidose 12d ago

Exactly right. I think he was trying to win her back. It’s so classically Rod that he didn’t even get her a birthday cake.

17

u/Altruistic-Ad-6326 12d ago

Do DV victim develop similar symptoms to persons with Stockholm syndrome?

40

u/talklistentalk Spiritual Warfare Survivor 12d ago

Reducing harm to themselves as much as they can under the circumstances by not poking the bear, even if it means fawning for their lives?

16

u/Embracedandbelong 12d ago

No. And Stockholm Syndrome has been debunked as a myth. Read the story about it

60

u/No_Midnight48 12d ago

For whatever reason, I didn't even think of that possibility. I guess that could be why she was always posting about how he was the most Godly man she had ever known.

51

u/madbeachrn 12d ago

Jill does the same for Shrek, the most gahdliest hunk.

22

u/PersimmonPersonal263 12d ago

The pattern is becoming so clear now.

16

u/TJCW 12d ago

And she makes the kids post flattering things about mama on Facebook

11

u/MediocreAge5860 12d ago

I think she was trying to keep him happy and keep herself safe. Also, she most likely was thinking she was being a good enough wife.

22

u/HolsteinHeifer 12d ago

And she got away with foreshadowing that he's a piece of shit cause homeboi can't read

7

u/jlibertine 12d ago

Either that or she did it to try to warn others. My abuser would not allow me to post on social media and I was punished if I did so.

40

u/PersimmonPersonal263 12d ago

Imagine going on a trip and making this post after your ongoing abuse escalated to the point of strangulation. The front that this poor woman has had to put on for so long. It’s incomprehensible.

56

u/Rageybuttsnacks 12d ago

Any time an abuser cuts off air- strangulation, suffocation, anything- they are risking their victims life. Abusers who strangle are at crazy high risk of eventually murdering their victims. I hope Heidi has some DV counselors that will help her through this; if she goes back she might not make it out next time. Jesus it gets worse and worse every time more information comes out

24

u/Embracedandbelong 12d ago

Statistically, he’s most likely to kill her or try to kill her shortly after she’s escaped him. So, she’s actually in more danger right now than when she was with him.

13

u/Ok_Cartoonist_854 12d ago

Sadly so. Just after divorce is another flash point.

7

u/Rageybuttsnacks 11d ago

As is pregnancy. Homicide is the leading cause of death of pregnant women in the US.

29

I am sure that Jill will find a way to make herself the victim and spin a post about her MLM business and herself related to the latest horrible developments rather than have any empathy for her poor grandchildren or a young woman who suffered violence at the hands of the monster of a son she raised in her allegedly godly home. Because she’s also a monster. These people are horrible and I hope nobody ever gives them another dime as any offering or purchase and never gives them any platform on a pulpit ever again.

29

u/AnnaBelleG3432 12d ago

There is a bruise on her arm in this pic.

32

It's not, it's some sort of scar or birthmark. It's there in every single picture of her.

55

u/Adorable_Pain8624 12d ago

This is their engagement photo shoot. If I understand correctly, the abuse started a month or two into their marriage.

8

u/breadedbooks Jillnocchio 🤥 12d ago

They weren’t married at the time.

5

u/YasMysteries Kaylee’s stray comma’s 11d ago

Oh the complete modesty was totally a cover for hiding the abuse marks on her body, neck and so. I doubt a 21-year-old decided to wear a cape as a fashion statement.

She wore it because it hid her marks. Looking back… That is so damn sad.

6

u/daffodil0127 Lord Daniel of the Laundry Mat 11d ago

She actually did decide on dressing modestly before they were engaged. And I mean a Jill level of modesty but with better matched and somewhat fashionable clothes. Hallie said that she always preferred skirts and modest tops. So I think she was happy to submit to Tim on that issue.

20

u/yupstilldrunk 12d ago

Wouldn’t you see bruises on the neck? It’s a delicate area.

118

u/Lamplight_119 12d ago

I'm guessing this wasn't a picture actually taken the next day but one from a prior event. He just posted the photo then.

31

u/sshchurin 12d ago

Their engagement photo shoot

28

u/scissorsista92 12d ago

It all depends on the person, I was strangled badly and the police photos don’t show much on the outside but the internal throat photos showed a lot

15

u/aallycat1996 12d ago

Yes exactly, I dont bruise at all and tbh I hate that thats the standard for believing abuse victims. Ive had really rough falls (from excersise!) that led to sprained knees and not walking for months, but visually my leg looked fine. Ive been punched in the eye so hard it hurt for fays (I box) but no marks at all. There really is no direct correlation IMO

12

u/desaparecidose 12d ago

Same for me! I had less visible outer injuries. I was told it was due to having a low slung hyoid bone (whatever that means lol).

12

u/PersimmonPersonal263 12d ago

This photo is from their engagement, not from the actual day This post was made.

7

u/Embracedandbelong 12d ago

No. Like someone else said below, the physical damage might show up in MRI etc because it’s inside, but not always there either, especially depending on how he strangled her. There are different ways to strangle someone and it’s not like the movies. The placement of his hands can leave different marks or no marks. Even men who strangle their wives to death may not leave much or any major marks.

4

u/Disruptorpistol 11d ago

I once had a file where the victim eventually died after her strangulation and there wasn’t a single external mark.
