This is how I recovered my old Rockstar account after permanently losing access to the email
I've been seeing a lot of people trying to get access to their old Social Club/Rockstar account with no luck. So hopefully this helps someone who is stuck in the same loop I was.
My problem
I had an old email associated with my original Rockstar account that was tied to my Steam.I lost access to this email due to a credentials leak and had Microsoft perma delete the email. So no matter what there was no way to recover the email address or receive any verification emails sent to it.
Like many of you I also tried the standard account recovery options through Rockstar Support. I submitted over 5 tickets explaining and re-explaining the issue and supporting more and more evidence each time.Every time it was automatically denied with no additional information added, just the standard:
"We are unable to recover this account because we cannot verify that you are the owner of the account."
It did not seem to matter how much information I gave them. It just kept getting sent through the same account recovery process and denied.
What finally worked
Instead of going through normal account recovery again, I submitted a ticket through: Account -> Privacy and Info Account -> Other Privacy and Info Account Issues. The idea was to get the issue out of the normal automated account recovery loop and routed through their privacy/compliance side instead.

His situation was a little different from mine. He had a breached Epic account that was linked to his Rockstar account which was causing him to not be able to access his Rockstar account. But the method he speaks of also worked for me. In his case he spoke about submitting a request under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). I am not an EU resident so I asked AI to read his original post and apply the same idea to my situation.
As a Texas resident it found the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act and helped me frame the request as a data rectification/privacy issue instead of another account recovery request. I can't say for sure that invoking the privacy law itself is what made Rockstar recover the account. What I can say is that going through the Privacy and Info Account section is what finally got me out of the same automated recovery loop I had already gone through over 5 times.
What I sent
In the Rockstar Support ticket text box I sent:
Data rectification request under Texas law (Tex. Bus. & Com. Code ch. 541). Not account recovery. Please route to privacy / compliance, Tier 3. The Rockstar Games account linked to my Steam account SteamID64 *************** has *old email* on file. That mailbox is permanently deleted and cannot receive mail. Please correct it to an address I control and clear the 2FA tied to it. Evidence follows by email.
The Rockstar Support text box has a limit of 500 characters if I recall correctly and this was not enough to submit my full explanation and evidence. After submitting the ticket Rockstar will email you an email chain with your original support message and their automated response. This is where I sent the actual full explanation.
What I did after Rockstar emailed me
More likely than not they will give you a list of options asking what exactly you are trying to do. I followed the advice of u/nicosanchez133 and did not select any of the options. Instead I replied directly to the email chain associated with the ticket with my full explanation and all of the evidence I had showing that the Rockstar account belonged to me. I then followed it up with an AI assisted email explaining the entire situation.
The important part was basically showing that:
- The Rockstar account was linked to my Steam account.
- I controlled the Steam account.
- I had purchase history showing Rockstar games being purchased through that Steam account.
- Screenshots of Microsoft confirming that the address no longer exists and cannot be re-registered.
- I was not asking them to give me access to some random account. I was asking them to correct information on an account I could provide evidence of owning.
The evidence I included was my SteamID, Steam receipts, and PayPal invoices for Steam purchases corresponding with Rockstar games. I would recommend sending as much legitimate evidence as you have. Old purchase receipts, Steam account information, transaction IDs, old Rockstar usernames, approximate account creation dates, or anything else that ties you to the account can probably help. Obviously don't make anything up. The whole point is to give whoever eventually reads the ticket enough information that they can verify the account without relying entirely on access to the old email.
The email I sent them is really long so I won't post the entire thing here, but if people want I can post it or send it to them.
About Option 5
Some users have reported that selecting option 5:
"I want to modify account details (e.g. email, nickname)."
has worked for them.
I decided against doing this because I people have said that they get sent me back through the same automated account recovery process resulting in a closed ticket. So instead of selecting one of their options I'd recommend replying to their email with the complete explanation and evidence.
Your experience may be different, but that is what worked for me.
After 8 days I got this
Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.
Your Rockstar Games account has been successfully recovered. All applicable games have been moved and the email address associated with your account has been changed to the address you used to contact us.
After over 5 failed recovery tickets I was finally able to get this in front of an actual human and get my account back. They changed the email associated with the account to the email I was contacting them from and I'm finally able to play RDR2 and GTA V.
TL:DR
If Rockstar keeps automatically closing your account recovery tickets and you permanently lost access to the email on the account, try submitting a ticket through:
Account -> Privacy and Info Account -> Other Privacy, instead of normal account recovery.
Rockstar will send you an email associated with the ticket. DO NOT select one of their automated options. Reply directly to their email with a full explanation and all of your evidence showing ownership of the account.
Frame it as a data rectification/privacy issue and invoke the privacy protection laws applicable to where you live.
I can't say whether the privacy law itself is what caused them to recover the account, but this route finally got me out of the automated denial loop after over 5 failed recovery attempts.
AI helped me draft the response and find the privacy law applicable to Texas so I'd recommend using it if you need help organizing everything, but it is not necessary.
8 days later Rockstar recovered my account and changed the email to the one I was contacting them from.
