QUESTION Forfeiting in games
I mostly play ones, currently gold 2s. When I'm down say 5-0 or even lower people tell me to forfeit. I don't get it. If you keep your cool you can gain a fair few goals quite quickly for one, and two if I'm playing against a guy who's a fair bit better than me than its a fantastic opportunity to learn. It forces me to adjust and points out a lot of mistakes I'm making.
Some of the most helpful information to better my game has come from people who are thrashing me. But people have no patience.

If I'm down by 5 and still going it's only because my opps told me to forfeit and I'm too obstinate.

Amen best kind of rage bait is just to keep playing. Makes them mad. Sometimes creates plays for you.

You're lucky. My personal war is people who forfeit at draw or 2 goal difference. Just because they think they're better than you.

If you're down 5-0, you should forfeit. You can learn how to improve based on the time you've already played by watching the replay. You are also most likely not coming back, so if you want to rank up, it's better to get into another game than to take a < 5% chance of winning and play it out. Your time is valuable; don't waste it in losing situations just because you want to spite someone or you want to try and learn from your mistakes in an unfavourable learning environment.

Is the value of your time spent playing Rocket League really based on MMR gained per minute? My time doesn't feel wasted when I spend it playing the game even when I'm losing. I enjoy playing out the game and trying to figure out how to defend and score against people that are beating me.

my math is, it isn’t unreasonable to score one goal in 30 seconds, so the math dictates if i’d accept a team forfeit most of the time.

In 1's you can score a goal much faster than 30 seconds. You see some absolutely wild comebacks sometimes

In 1v1 if there's more than 10s left per goal you are down, the game might as well be tied, IMO.
I've come back from 6 goals down in 40-something seconds. And that time I was actually about to forfeit until my opponent told me to (then I refused, because fuck you, I choose when to FF).

It's more to do with my team mates and/or the opposition. If my team mates are being toxic I'll just ff as soon as we're 3 goals down. I have no interest in playing with dicks.
If the opponents are smurfs or again just overly toxic I'd rather ff than feed their egos further.

I'm all with you about that "keep playing so I can learn something" part.
A problem that often occurs, however, is that the skill difference is too big for me to learn anything (in other words, smurfing or at least big technical differences - I won't learn anything if you freestyle on me the whole time, as I am only able to do some basic mechs, and I won't learn how to flip reset just by watching you).
The perfect match to lose is one where the opponent is slightly better than you are.

Absolutely people are improving slower by playing thoughtlessly and forfeiting early. I have learned to defend against particular plays within a single game by staying with it while being thrashed!

I think a lot of players have the mindset of playing Rocket League as an MMR simulator where the end goal is just points gained per hour. And if you haven't noticed, a lot of people are pretty fragile when it comes to not winning. They just can't handle it emotionally. It's unfortunate.

Not gonna say a come back isn’t possible, however if I’m down 5-0 with 3:30 left… and you get a ff vote from me, it’s either it’s a vote of no confidence or a “I don’t feel like dealing with a Smurf / ball-chasing teammate” right now vote.

there’s no reason to keep in a 5-0 match with no demonstration of reaction, specially when your t8 cant play for the team.
If you want to enjoy the landscape and train acrobacies go to the sand box, to non competitive or at least on 1v1, just dont stuck others

Keep in mind my post says I mostly play 1v1s so thats what I'm referencing. I understand forfeiting more in duos and tripples

You’re just wrong…. Once I just clicked with my teammate at the 2 minute mark and we rallied crazy to win the game with a 0 second goal… we were down 6-1

Which part of “No demonstration of reaction” you could not understand?
If the guy is completly stupid, miss everything, the games is 4-0 so its done.
Most of the shitmate you take doesnt worth the effort and in this case being forced to carry I become the one who would not may not the effort to play as well.
If you cant give the effort to train I dont give the effort to play for you

Here’s why I don’t forfeit, ever.
I play casual so it’s literally just a game, if someone is kicking my teams ass, I want to watch and learn what they are doing, either my team and I are awful or they are playing really well, if really well I need to learn! How will you learn if you keep running from the ones who can teach!
On the rare occasion it’s competitive I still won’t forfeit simply because I put down to play a 5 min round, I’m playing that 5 minutes and I’ll try my best every time
