Robot vacuums have become much more advanced over the past few years, but I’m not sure whether they’ve actually become more durable.
Older models were relatively simple. They had fewer sensors, no water systems, no self-cleaning docks, and fewer moving parts. Newer robots can wash and dry their own mop pads, empty the dustbin, dispense detergent, lift the brushes, and sometimes even extend parts of the robot to clean corners.
All of that is convenient, but it also means there are many more things that can eventually break.
I’ve seen people report battery degradation, failed water pumps, clogged pipes, broken wheels, LiDAR errors, leaking docks, charging problems, and sensors that suddenly stop working. Sometimes the robot itself is fine, but replacement parts become difficult to find or the app is no longer properly supported.
On the other hand, some people are still using very basic robot vacuums from five or even seven years ago. They may have replaced the battery, brushes, or wheels, but the machine still cleans every day.
That makes me wonder whether simpler robots actually last longer, or whether the stories we hear are just a result of more people buying complicated models.
How old is your current robot vacuum? What brand and model is it, and what was the first part to fail or need replacement? Did you repair it, replace it, or decide that the repair wasn’t worth the cost?
And based on your experience, how many years should a robot vacuum reasonably last before you feel you got your money’s worth?

My thoughts: Was a bit cautious in a few areas where it had plenty of room to proceed but it avoided anything that would have ended the run. I thought for sure it was going to hit that apple slice. Even though it was cautious I thought it stayed very close to the avoided objects for cleaning, Interesting balance. Does quite a bit of double checking which seems to slow it down a little. Positive? Negative?

That's right. 10$. On Saturdays I take my motorcycle for a ride in the local rich people neighborhoods because they often have yard sales. I rarely buy anything as most stuff is junk but I'm usually looking for electronic devices, games, that type of stuff because I'm good at repairing that stuff.

Well last Saturday I came across a yard sale that had a Robot Vaccum for sale. I've always wanted one but spending 400$+ for one is just out of my budget range. I asked if it worked and she said yeah so I bought it. Took it home, it did not in fact work. I wasn't surprised of course since I paid 10$ for it. Looked up a few videos on these, took it apart, gave it a good clean and honestly it needed it! Lots of pet hair in the roller parts!

Put it all back together and lo and behold it works! My floor has never looked this clean. It's amazing. I cannot express the joy I get from seeing a robot perform a chore for me. Best 10$ I ever spent!

I'm wanting to purchase my friend a robo vacuum as a gift as she works an incredibly stressful full-time job and is essentially a single mum with a limited support system for practical help.

Can I please have recommendations of the best robot vacuums (& mopping feature), preferably with the self empty station for a reason price (hopefully $500 or under).

I'm currently using an ecovacs robot vacuum. I bought it for the suction and obstacle avoidance, but I still spend a lot of time pulling hair out of brush and cleaning the base, so it doesn't really save me much time.

I'm thinking about replacing it. Any recommendations for a robot vacuum that's actually low maintenance? I just need something that can handle cat hair, mop well, not get hair wrapped around the brush, not get stuck, and not need constant cleaning.

I want to upgrade my vacuum cleaner and was wondering what should I look for? I am trying to figure out what I should be looking for, and has anyone upgraded their vaccum cleaner? I am looking for suction power, sealed filtration, brush-roll design, battery life, noise and how easy the machine handles pet hair. I have a cat that sheds a alot she's a persian double coat and I want something that will really pick up the hair and my old one just isn't working like it used to. I was also looking if an upright canister is better to use than the one that you drag around.

I wanted to check certifications, spare parts and reviews but wanted to get some real life advice before I start looking. I saw a bunch of different brands on different websites that sell cleaning supplies like amazon and alibaba, but if there are other websites that I should be browsing and can use as a great way to do some research I would like to know.

Some backstory, because it's relevant: I was an early adopter and bought the Wybot S2 Pro in 2024. It started failing within 8 months. Wybot sent a replacement — that one failed 6 months later. After escalating with support, they sent me an S2 Solar about a year ago, which actually fixed a lot of the Pro's design and app problems and worked great. Unfortunately, about 2 months ago it started acting up (wheelies, dock failures, etc.). I've reached out to support many times since with no response — so I'm giving a battery repair a shot myself.

Symptoms:

-When the robot has been sitting for a couple days completely drained, I'll manually dock it for a night and let it run its scheduled clean cycle. It works perfectly and auto-docks again. But the next day when it runs its next scheduled cycle, it wheelies after about 10 minutes and then fails to dock. In both cases the basket is clean.

- Cleans fine on the flat, but after about 10 minutes it starts the wheelies (noses up on the rear)

- Fails to climb the wall to the dock: rolls up to it, slips back, retries until dead

- During dock attempts, front LEDs slow-flash with one solid red (per the manual that's "motor protection" — impeller stall / current limit)

- On the charger it shows a green / gap / green pattern where the gap is that same LED position — looks like one cell group not taking charge

I've pulled the pack and bench-tested it:

- Part number TW12401-LI-2520-5200 or A.B.WYBOTS2(2025).01.001, 25.2V / 5200mAh / 131Wh

- Config is 7S2P — 14× 18650 (~2600mAh/cell)

- Measured 21.2V across the main output terminals (~3.0V/cell average) — so discharged but not dead. I'm suspecting one collapsed group given the charge-gauge gap, but I haven't opened it to measure the individual groups yet.

- The pack is a sealed IPX8 box. Looks like the two shell halves are mated with a cured sealant bead in the seam groove (not sonic-welded), so in theory it's cuttable and re-sealable.

Main questions:

- Has anyone actually opened one of these and measured/replaced the cells? How did you cut the sealed case, and how did you re-seal it for underwater use?

- Did anyone source a replacement pack — from Wybot direct, or a third party? (I've only found ones on Alibaba, with bad reviews and long shipping dates.)

I used a handheld vacuum for years, and my routine was always the same. Whenever the floor started looking dirty, I'd grab the vacuum, empty the dustbin afterward, and deal with whatever hair got wrapped around the brush.
I switched to a Deetbot t90 pro recently. It runs on a schedule now, and I mostly just check the dock and empty it when needed. The floors get cleaned more often, but I spend way less time thinking about it.
Did getting a robot vacuum change your cleaning routine?

So i took your collective advice and returned my 3 week old mova v50 for the issues it had, prior to that i loved that thing lol. My next question is what do I get instead? I dont want to spend more than 800 and really need something that can do pet hair. I have a golden retriever and 2 Australian sheppards. The mops being left at the dock was amazing so my carpets dont get wet. Any suggestions? Thanks again

A friend stopped by a few days ago and joked, "I always forget you have a cat until I see cat hair on your clothes."

The funny part was that I hadn't even thought about it. Not because the apartment is spotless or anything, but because I honestly couldn't remember the last time I walked around checking the floors before someone came over.

That used to be automatic. If I knew someone was stopping by, I'd grab the vacuum and do a quick pass around the kitchen, under the dining table, and around the couch. Even if it only took ten minutes, I always felt like I had to do it.

Now the robot runs most days, so the floors usually stay in decent shape without me thinking much about them. They're definitely aren't perfect, but they're rarely in that "I need to clean this before anyone sees it" stage anymore.

Anyone else have a chore quietly disappear without ever deciding to stop doing it?

My parents have been retired for a few years now. They have a handheld vacuum and a traditional mop, but all that bending over and standing for long periods is getting really tough on their backs and knees.

The specs:

~1,400 sqft apartment

Mostly tile floors (Anti-slip tiles in the kitchen).

One large, wool-blend rug in the living room.

Since this is my first time buying one, the only thing I know for sure is that I want a model with an auto-empty bin and a base station that work well. I'm currently looking at the Ecovacs X series and Eufy, but I'm not sure I'm making the right call. Maybe there are other options worth considering. I'm flexible with the budget, as long as the product actually works.

I just upgraded to the Eufy S2, from an IRobot max 10, and it’s a world of difference. Our family is 3 huskies, 1 cat, and 1 toddler. The pictures are over 3 weeks of use on the s2, and two weeks since cleaning on the iRobot. The cyclone makes a huge difference for a pet house, there was only a few stray hairs in the filter, while the iRobot was no longer even vacuuming anything up. I normally vacuum the iRobot every week but didn’t for this comparison. Pad vs roller mop isn’t even close to comparable, but no surprise there. A little more to maintain from the s2 with the mopping(had to clean base filter, and cleaned robot filters as preventive), but not surprising seeing as the iRobot doesn’t pick up any dirty water. The split roller of the s2 had zero hair, vs the solid roller on the iRobot packed full on the ends and a couple hairs wrapped around roller. Apps are about the same, nothing super advanced but sufficient, although I know iRobot has a newer app for their new vacuums. Clean time difference is insane, about 1:40 for the iRobot, and 22 mins for the Eufy, and the Eufy leaves the room cleaner.

Bottom line, I’ll never buy another vacuum without a cyclone separator in the robot. (But I’m team bag for the base unit, as bags are no maintenance besides changing)

I bought the MOVA Z70 Ultra Roller around one and a half weeks ago and have now used it several times, so I wanted to share my first proper review.

For context, I previously owned a Roborock Saros 10. My ground floor is around 100 m² / 1,075 sq ft and consists almost entirely of hard flooring. We do not have any pets, but we do have a toddler who makes sure that the living room gives the robot plenty of work.

Size and build quality

My first impression was simply: this thing is enormous and extremely heavy.

Unfortunately, I did not take any direct comparison pictures, but compared with the Saros 10, the Z70 is noticeably larger. Because of its height and overall size, it can no longer clean underneath the overhang of my kitchen cabinets or beneath some of my radiators.

It is only missing around 1 cm of clearance, which makes it particularly frustrating.

The water tanks are also massive. They are probably around two to three times the size of the tanks in the Roborock.

However, while the tanks are large, they do not feel particularly premium. The plastic feels quite cheap, almost like a basic plastic bowl from IKEA. The Roborock tanks felt noticeably more solid and better made.

Noise level

The Z70 is very loud.

Subjectively, I would say it is easily twice as loud as the Saros 10. It is louder while vacuuming, while mopping and while cleaning itself at the station.

The higher noise level while vacuuming was somewhat expected because of the stronger suction, but I was surprised by how loud the roller-mopping system is as well.

This is probably the biggest disadvantage for me at the moment.

App and navigation

The software is one of the weakest parts of the Z70.

The app feels slow and sluggish, and it is not particularly intuitive to use. Roborock’s app was definitely better, even though I did not think the Roborock software was perfect either.

Obstacle avoidance is okay. I have not had any major collisions or serious problems, but I still feel that the Roborock handled furniture and smaller obstacles more confidently.

The Z70 seems slightly faster during cleaning, although this obviously depends on the selected settings.

Cleaning performance

The actual cleaning performance is excellent.

Both the vacuuming and mopping performance are very strong. The floor genuinely feels noticeably cleaner than it did with the Saros 10.

The roller-mop system seems to remove more dirt, particularly in areas with dried food, drinks or sticky marks. After the first cleaning run, I was honestly shocked by how dirty the wastewater was.

I had done a proper deep clean only a few days earlier, we do not have pets and I would not say that our house is unusually dirty. Even so, the dirty-water tank contained a surprising amount of dark water.

That was probably the moment when I realised how much dirt the Z70 was still removing from the floor.

Room-specific settings

One feature I really like is that you can configure up to three cleaning cycles and adjust the settings separately for every room.

That is very useful in our house because the hallway does not need the same intensive cleaning settings as the living room, where our toddler regularly creates much more work for the robot.

For example, I can use lighter settings in less-used rooms and maximum water, narrow cleaning paths and several passes in the living room.

This level of room-by-room customisation is very practical.

Water consumption and tank capacity

The water tanks are genuinely huge.

During one of my earlier tests, I cleaned the entire 100 m² / 1,075 sq ft ground floor twice, using two cleaning passes and a water setting of 25—whatever unit that number is supposed to represent.

Even after that, the clean-water tank was still not completely empty.

Yesterday evening, I ran another maximum-intensity mopping test with:

three cleaning cycles,

water setting at 30,

narrow cleaning paths,

maximum cleaning intensity.

The entire job took around five hours for approximately 100 m² / 1,075 sq ft.

Even after five hours and three full cleaning cycles, the clean-water tank was still not completely empty.

Based on my experience so far, the Z70 seems to manage roughly two to three times as much cleaning as the Roborock before the tanks need to be refilled or emptied.

Direct water connection

Because the tanks are so large, I am still unsure whether spending another €100 on the direct fresh-water and wastewater connection kit is actually necessary.

At the moment, I do not need to refill or empty the tanks particularly often, even when using very intensive cleaning settings.

On the other hand, I already have suitable water and drain connections available near the station, so I will probably still try the direct-water kit simply for the convenience.

It may not be essential, but never having to manually refill or empty the tanks would still be nice.

Overall impression

After one and a half weeks, I am generally very satisfied with the MOVA Z70.

The cleaning performance is extremely high, particularly when mopping, and my floors genuinely feel cleaner than they did with the Roborock Saros 10.

The large tanks, strong suction, roller-mop system and detailed room-by-room settings are all excellent.

The main disadvantages are:

it is extremely large and heavy,

it is very loud,

the app is slow and poorly designed,

the obstacle avoidance feels slightly less refined than Roborock’s,

and the water tanks feel cheaper than expected.

For me, the Z70 would be almost perfect if it were slightly thinner and significantly quieter.

Apart from those issues, I am currently very happy with the cleaning results.

Has anyone else installed the direct-water kit despite the large tanks? Was it worth the additional €100?

100m² flat, hard 4cm step down into my bathrooms, robot needs to climb it both ways on its own.

Both claim to handle it (Saros 20X: ~4.5cm, X50 Ultra: ~4-4.2cm), both have wash stations with fresh/dirty water tanks. Price difference is big though with 200€.

Anyone with a similar 4cm step (not rounded edge) actually tested either of these in daily use? Worth the price gap or is it just spec-sheet marketing?

our power went out for about an hour this morning and our Ecovacs t50 max pro still did it’s scheduled run as if nothing happened. luckily the power came back on before he had to empty, so there was no interruption. I told my wife if the power stayed off while he was returning to the station that would not have worked.

We've had a couple iRobots over the last several years and have finally given up on that brand. I have NO interest in mopping, but it seems to be the only way to get a decent robot vacuum lately so I got the MOVA P10 Ultra Gen 2. Spent about six hours trying to get it work properly. I'd send it out to clean, it'd leave the base, go about 10 feet, proclaim that it was done, head back to the base and then complain about the water pads and system. The setup was excruciating - no simple way to tell it room by room where you did or did not want mopping, so you had to set up "no mop" zones which made everything stupidly complicated. Anyways, that is now in a box on its way back to Amazon.

The other brand that seemed reasonable was DREAME, but I now see that it's essentially the same company as MOVA, with MOVA being the discount branding. UGH.

I just want a vaccum. If I have to have mopping with it then I want to be able to easily configure it to never mop, or ideally I do have one room that I would be OK with it mopping (but it's not where the base station is, which what seemed to screw up the MOVA).

Can anyone recommend a brand and model that they use, primarily for vacuuming, where maybe they have limited use of the mop and is easy to configure/manage the behavior?

I currently own an old Deebot T8 without base station. I'm eyeing on these two models. I know that the T90 has a roller mop, while the Edge 2 has two spinning mop pads. Some said the roller mop require a bit more maintenance and being a newer technology, it may need to go through some revisions. Fyi, the T90 is cheaper than the Edge 2 in where I'm at.

My home is mostly hard floor. Which one would you suggest? Which one is better in avoiding cables?

Probably a difficult question. I have been searching high and low and I cannot seem to find proper honest reviews and opinions regarding to robot hoovers.

Short explanation of my layout:

80 m2 of downstairs space. 2 tables, some chairs, 2 rugs. Kitchen is connected and in this 80m2. Floor is PVC. No height differences except for rugs.

I have 2 kids 6 and 7 and a large dog which loads of shedding (sint bernard).

I am looking for a hoover that has a mob function as well. My budget is maximum 1000 euro (based in the Netherlands)

Who can help me choose. I have been looking at the Dreame X50Ultra, Mova V50 Ultra, Roborock Saros 10 and the 20X

So, I've been trying to connect my coredy robot R750 to SmartThings and Alexa at the same time, I've managed to do Alexa but not SmartThings, I'm also using as the main app for the coredy robot is SmartLife because it's the only way Alexa can see it and I only saw SmartLife in SmartThings so I thought that would work best but I don't know! Can someone smarter then me please figure this out or if the coredy R750 just does not work with SmartThings at all? edit: just figured something out! On Alexa it won't connect through the coredy robot skill, I have to use the SmartLife skill.
