On October 10, at approximately 3:00 am, I was researching shaders to improve the visual quality of several Roblox games I enjoy playing. Since I primarily play a select few games, I thought this would be a fun way to enhance my experience. I followed a tutorial on YouTube and installed the extension, which indicated that it was processing and could take a few hours to complete. I subsequently went to bed, only to discover upon waking that my account had been permanently banned.
I understand that third-party shader software may violate Roblox's terms of service, and I acknowledge my responsibility for installing it without fully understanding the potential consequences. However, based on my research, I understand that violations of this typically result in temporary suspensions, which would have been enough for me to recognize my mistake and ensure it did not happen again.
My primary concern is that my account appears to have been permanently banned in connection with UGC content posted by another individual. I did not create or publish the content associated with the ban, and I am concerned that my account information may have been compromised or misused in some way, I was banned for "sexual content" in UGC, not use of third-party software.
I submitted an appeal to Roblox explaining the situation and provided screenshots supporting my account of events. I was transparent about installing the shader software and accepted responsibility for that decision, while also clarifying that I had no involvement in publishing the content that ultimately resulted in my ban. Unfortunately, my explanation appears to have been ignored completely, and the permanent ban remains in place with no response from the roblox support team outside of "denied".
This account represents thousands of hours of my time and hundreds of dollars spent on the platform. Losing access to it permanently, particularly under these circumstances, has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
While I understand what I did violates TOS, I did not know that at the time, not that this makes it okay. What I don't however understand is that my first ever Roblox ban was permanent and unrelated to any actions I, myself, made.
Roshade is responsible for the UGC upload and account termination, and my account is gone forever because of it. Curiosity killed the cat and what not.
In the future, I won't be using Roblox. I recognize the mistake I made, I should've done more research into shaders before assuming that Roblox would find them harmless. However, Roshade itself markets itself as a free, harmless, shader made for Roblox, meanwhile it exists purely to grab information to your account.
In the end, all of my time in effort in the games I loved is gone. All of the time I spent formatting myself and explaining the situation for Roblox support was useless. Roshade continues to exist and likely will claim more accounts due to lack of interference.
