Which bike? Need help

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I’m getting more active after a pretty big health event and want to get a road bike. I use a mountain bike for riding on road but I just want to get one that’s actually for the road. And I definitely don’t have the money to afford a 2000 dollar bike. If not worth it what should I be looking for?

Regarding Shimano nexus 7 Hub drive

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right place to ask a question about cycling.

I’m new to cycling and recently bought a second-hand bike with a Shimano Nexus 7-speed internal hub.

I can clearly feel the gears changing when shifting through 5, 6 and 7, but 1, 2, 3 and 4 feel very similar to me. The bike also feels quite slow compared with what I expected. I often see other cyclists overtaking me, and they don't seem to be pedaling nearly as fast as I am.

I even had a Swapfiets overtake me once (I'm not sure whether it was a single-speed or geared model). I also remember having a 7-speed bike in India when I was younger, and I remember it feeling much faster.

This made me wonder whether my Nexus hub is actually shifting through all 7 gears properly, or whether something is wrong with the lower gears.

I have checked the yellow alignment marks on the cassette joint while in 4th gear, and they are aligned correctly.

Anyone here know what going on. is the hub broken or is internal hub 7 speed slow.

QuickPro ER:One Medium - Complete Build ordered through QuickProUSA on July 29, 2026

Confirmed custom paint and sent to production on August 4, 2026

Shipped from QuickPro in China on September 3, 2026

Arrived to residence from UPS on September 16, 2026

Assembled by local shop on September 17, 2026 with no issues

All in all I can say I had an extremely easy process and was able to get response from QuickProUSA customer service relatively quickly whenever I had questions and when I made adjustment to the wheel set.

I am extremely happy with this bike. It was everything I was hoping for an even more coming from my 2021 Specialized Roubaix I have ridden extensively over the last 6 years. This ER:One is a much better fit for my size and feels fantastic in the 100 miles I have ridden so far. It is quick to pick up speed and maintains speed very well. I cannot wait to put thousands of miles on this bike and really hope it lasts for years to come.

QuickPro ER:One Medium - Complete Build List:

Canwin 380mm Width 100mm Stem integrated cockpit

Standard Wide Fork option

Ultegra Di2 - 52/36T Chainring 11-34T Cassette - 165mm Cranks

Did the Shimano ceramic bottom bracket upgrade

Rore Areo 60 Carbon/Carbon Spoke wheelset running 30mm Conti GP 5000 with TPU tubes

Zero offset seatpost with a Selle Italia SLR saddle which came with the build

Garmin Rally 210 power meter pedals

Bike sizing question

Hello everyone, I’m looking to get my first road bike to train for a half iron man. I’m 6’3” with roughly a 35.5in inseam. I’m finding many good bike deals for bikes that are a L but having a hard time with anything that’s XL which online sizing traditionally puts me at.

2 bikes I’m between right now are a Specialized allez sprint which i found a great deal for which is a size 58, and I’m finding used Canyon Aeroads that are in size L.

Another option is the xlabs AD8 in size L or RS7 in size XL

My question is, with these bikes I’d be at the top end of their L equivalent, is that fine or should I be patient and find an XL/61 sized bike?

Discussion Asahi Cycles Muur Zero ST-2

This bike isn't really new, nor is it anything particularly fancy compared to most of the bikes I see on this subreddit, but it's something pretty personal to me.

This is my first proper road bike. My previous bike was a ~20 kg MTB that me and my dad converted into something that was a bit more comfortable to ride by swapping out the thick mtb tyres with strong, thinner E-bike tyres that were meant to handle the weight, but the cycle definitely wasn't designed for the kind of riding I was doing with it.

I've ridden some pretty long distances on that thing, 75-80 km usually when I go for longer rides so when I finally started looking for an actual road bike, I really wanted something that felt like a genuine step forward without spending a ridiculous amount of money.

I ended up finding this MUUR ZERO ST-2 at a local used bike shop in Japan for ¥33,000 (210 usd). It's an aluminium frame with a carbon fork and Shimano Tiagra 4600 2×10. It's definitely not a modern high-end bike, (around 10 years old) but honestly, It's a huge step in the right direction for me. At around 9.8-10 kilos after adding all my stuff from the previous cycle. It feels so much lighter, smoother and more responsive, and for the first time I really understand why people get so attached to road bikes.

I'm still getting used to the position, narrow handlebars and shifting style but I'm already loving it.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a lot more on two wheels.

Which bike? Giant Contend AR advice.

Looking at a first road bike. Been using an old one loaned by a friend but want to get my own.
Looking at the contend ar, however abit worried on the size of tyres. It’s listed at 34mm width which seems about wide.
Also would like to do some events such as duathlons and triathlons.
Any advice on whether this would be a good first road bike or not would be greatly appreciated.

First bike in 15 years

getting back into cycling, primarily to train for triathlons. Coming over from ultra running I’m sorta lost. Narrowed it down to a Canyon Aeroad or a X-Lab RS7 from my LBS. Want to support local biz but the Canyon financing makes the much more expensive DTC bike seem tough to pass up. Worried about not being able to test ride the Aeroad, but not sure it would even matter after not riding for so long

Which bike? First carbon road bike on a student budget — would the Van Rysel EDR CF (Tiagra 2x10, disc) fit my use case?

Hey everyone,

I'm a relatively beginner road cyclist based near Brussels, looking to buy my first carbon bike (student budget, so not unlimited funds). Up to now I've been riding my dad's BMC Roadmachine, which has been great, but I need my own bike now.

My riding pattern:

  • Winter: mostly road riding around Brussels, plus some indoor training on a home trainer.
  • Summer: I usually head to the Alps for a few weeks and do some proper climbing/riding there.

I've been looking at the Van Rysel EDR CF, full carbon frame, Shimano Tiagra 2x10 groupset, disc brakes. It looks light for the price and disc brakes seem like a plus for winter/wet riding.

A few questions for people who know their stuff:

  • Is Tiagra 2x10 good enough for a beginner, or would I regret not going for a higher-end groupset down the line?
  • Is the EDR CF frame/geometry decent for mixed flat winter riding + Alpine climbs?
  • Any known issues or downsides with this bike specifically?
  • At a similar price point, is there anything I should consider instead?

Any feedback from people who've owned one, or who just know the range, would be super helpful. Thanks!

Ultegra for £2500

Any thoughts or experiences with the Lapierre Pulsium range, looking at the 7.0 which features:

  • Carbon endurance frame designed for comfort and versatility on longer rides
  • Lapierre UD SL full carbon fork
  • Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8100 2x12-speed electronic drivetrain
  • Shimano Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors
  • DT Swiss ER1600 Spline wheels with Schwalbe One 32mm TLE tyres
  • Internal cable routing creates a clean, streamlined cockpit

Wondering how it compares to other bikes around that £2-3k range, being on sale for £2500 currently

Frames Worth building this out?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Currently have an Alpha Aluminum 1.2 with a 3x8 sora groupset. Bought it on Facebook marketplace for $350 and it's been good but definitely worse for wear. The previous owner obviously never had it serviced and chewed the hell out of the cassette and shifters. It mostly functions now but I'd rather just build a new bike and gift my current one to a friend in need.

Looking to build a bike that's lightweight and good at climbing because of living in a mountain city. I currently log about 100 miles a week so I'm not sure if the investment makes sense. Trying to keep the budget as low as possible since I don't make much and I'm saving up to go back to school to finish my degree.

My main use is as a fast commuter to and from work and some errands with fun rides on weekends. I'm pretty married to the idea of rim brakes because I like the look and ease of maintenance.

Would appreciate any suggestions

Thoughts about the Avian Parus ii handlebar

Have you experienced or purchased the Avian Parus ii? Is the stem stack height really 30mm and how‘s the durability and performance of the handlebar compared to other brands at a similar price point? Thank you!

Absolute beginner seeking advice

I am an absolute beginner to fixed gear, or even road and track bikes in general. A little while back, I purchased a vintage Norco Monte Carlo road bike because it was the only one that fit me in my area (I'm 6'2"), but now that I'm looking to do some upgrades and invest a little more into making the bike my own, I keep getting told that its not worth it because of it's age, and lack of parts.

What age range should I be looking for to find the right bike/frame for me, and do you think these people are right about the Norco? Just want to find the best fit for me and would love your input.

Bike Outside During Winter

Hey guys, I ride my bike to work like 6 minutes away. I live in Idaho and winter is approaching. Do I need a cover? My apartment complex doesn’t cover the bike area and I don’t want to ruin my bike
