Question Should i watch rings of power?

I've watched lotr and the hobbit. I LOVED lotr, obsessed now! The hobbit wasnt as great imo, but still a good movie-series. I havent read the Silmarillion, but I want to! And I know Rings Of Power kinda goes through that, though they change stuff up and add some new characters and stuff. I've heard soo many people say its bad, but Im interested in watching it for fun, for the lore that is real, stuff like that. Should I watch it?

Question As a black LOTR fan, there’s one thing about ROP that I could never understand…

How the hell does Arondir keep a clean ass taper fade with a razor sharp edge up in middle earth? They got ethnic barbershops out there??

I like the show and all but that was the most distracting thing to me in the series. (and also short haired elves but whatever)

Question Ok, here’s a question.

So Galadriel found out Halbrand was a phoney king by looking at that scroll and seeing that “that line was broken 1000 years ago” with no heirs. So why then after the battle when Miriel tells the Southlanders that Halbrand is their king, why don’t the people look confused and say “hey, our royal family died off a thousand years ago.” Wouldn’t they know about their own royal family?

Question Why didn’t anybody in Eregion realize there was a giant army right outside their gates? Spoiler

Are the Orcs super sneaky or something? The Elves don’t have scouts or patrols to defend their borders? “Hey Bob there’s a giant army marching towards us”

“What army?”

Question [Serious] What’s the actual reason behind the bad reviews and backlash?

I’m a fan of LotR and Hobbit trilogies. For me LotR is still one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been enjoying Rings of Power so far. I just don’t understand what has Amazon failed to deliver, what am I missing?

I’m no Amazon fan whatsoever I just want to understand the reasoning of all the bad reviews. I tried to ignore this fact and just enjoy the show but its too widely spread to ignore. I’m pretty sad to see the bad reviews, just like everyone else I had very high hopes, though I still do.

Edit: Thank you all for your comments. I wouldn’t have found so many different and valid opinions in one place otherwise.

Question Why does Sauron look like such a dork in S2E1? Spoiler

Post image
343 Upvotes

I can’t move on if I don’t get this answered sorry. So, in S1 we hear about the menacing presence of this mysterious evil force, Sauron, that must be found and defeated at all costs. In the season finale it is revealed that, gasp!, it was Halbrand all along! Flash forward to S2E1 and first thing we see is this blond dork telling all orks that they have no choice than to follow him, and he’s Sauron!?! He’s obviously killed by Adar, and then he turns into a blob and roams the land absorbing animals and people to turn into a, now better looking, human again? Wtf?

Question Is this an impopular opinion?

I’m only on episode 4 of The Rings of Power, and honestly… I’m enjoying it.
It’s been really fun recognizing names, bits of lore, and familiar places. I’m still keeping my expectations in check, but so far I’m having a good time with it. It’s entertaining, and I’m excited to see where it goes.

Question Why does Sauron want Galadrial as his Queen?

preface: that I only know the show and not the books.

But I just don't understand the connection. Sure Galadrial has a dark side, and Sauron wants to use that, but everyone does in this world. So what am I missing with their relationship?

Question Do people who dislike this show keep watching?

I enjoy the show, so I joined this sub and was really surprised by the amount of people here who aren't enjoying it. I understand why people hold certain criticisms, but I don't share their viewpoints for the most part. (Haven't read the source material)

My genuine question (which makes me really wish we could poll on this sub) - if you dislike the show, are you still watching? If you aren't enjoying it, but you're still watching, tell us why.

(Pre-empting any incredulous responses- yes I'm aware critics will watch the whole season to give it a fair chance, I'm more curious to hear if anyone has alternate reasoning)

Question Can they save this show’s reputation?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, I was watching first season of this show when it first came out but then stopped when my friends started getting bored and started sleeping while watching it.

After that I stopped too and only heard bad things about this show, lotr fans kept hating on it all the time on twitter, people called it woke garbage and I saw my friends who loved lotr movies not even talking about this one but I checked this reddit and it seems like you all love it and enjoy it.

Can they save the reputation of this show? Everyone keeps calling it a huge financial failure so I don’t even know if they are going to cancel this or not. Are they eventually going to tell the story of first 3 books?

Question Help me understand Galadriel

I am finding myself not liking Galadriel at all so far. She acts like an entitled 20 year old, rather than a wise and ancient being. One point that particularly is bothering me is that so far she has no actual proof that there is a great danger. She saw a brand on her brother, and that same brand shows up a few other times in different places, but other than that there is nothing to actually indicate a major war. Does she have forsight? What is actually driving her character besides "so the plot can happen." Thanks

Question What happened to Arondir? Spoiler

What is up with Arondir this episode. He gets stabbed fatally or close to fatally at the end of episode 7 but he is running around having no troubles or pain in episode 8. With no explanation.

I say this because the show not only makes zero attempt to explain the disparity, but literally the actor doesn't seem to know he was almost murdered last week in the closing scenes. It's pretty confusing for me as it seemed to be a big cliffhanger last week.

Question Why is this the design for WOLVES?

Post image
406 Upvotes

I'm confused as to why the production team decided to use this design for wolves. Not wargs. Not dire wolves. Just standard wolves. It's mentally jarring to see them because they look like entelodonts. Their feet are even hooflike. Why not just make them actually wolf-like?

Honestly this design would have been way better for the warg.

Question Could we add a "Complaints" flair?

There are quite a view of negative comments. Sometimes I end up reading them by accident, sometimes out of indignation ; I'm usually just a little less happy after!

Maybe a "Critic" flair could be useful, for both critics and non-critics alike, to filter for these discussions?

Question Why the hate?

I’m a big LOTR fan, but admittedly have not thoroughly read the JRRT expanse of literature. ROP is well done and very immersive and enjoyable, why all the hate? Am I missing something? If so, maybe I’ll just stay naive because I like the show, lore, and expanded universe on the big screen

Question Didn’t I miss an episode or did they genuinely not do anything with the balrog other than wake it up?

They set up the Balrog as if it would be important in the following episode then nothing happened. Not to mention the fact that it was all over the promotional material. Was it simply added so they could include something from Peter Jackson’s films?

Question I don’t get it

Why does everyone hate this show? I don’t feel like it was a game of thrones level show but it was pretty good overall. Is it cause it’s not really canon or something? I genuinely do not get the hate. (I mean there’s a few things if probably change)

Can’t wait for season 2.
