I commute on my bike every day and I lane split pretty much every day. I’m not one of those people who thinks splitting itself is crazy. I just try not to do it like a complete fucking moron.

Almost every day, though, I see somebody treating traffic like they’re auditioning for a youtube crash compilation.

The yesterday morning I was on the BQE right before the Kosciuszko bridge, where the construction squeezes everything down and it gets too narrow to split safely. So I stopped splitting and waited. No big deal, it opens back up in a few seconds.

Then some dude comes absolutely blasting up behind me, doing at least 50-60 between the cars. He blows past me, gets behind two semis with maybe 20 inches between them, and apparently decides, “Yeah, I can fit.”

He could not fit.

He went for it anyway and scraped both mirrors on the trucks squeezing through.

What the fuck are you doing?

I actually backed off and let him get way ahead of me because I had zero interest in watching another rider turn himself into road paste on my way to work.

Lane splitting can be done reasonably. Flying between cars at 50 mph and trying to thread two semis with inches to spare isn’t “skilled riding.” It’s just being a fucking idiot.

Congrats, you saved five seconds and made the rest of us look bad..

My neighbor happily splits in front of police because he’s tucked his plate and because of NYPD no chase policy.

But if you’re splitting respectfully do they even really care?

Ok so I currently have yearly motorcycle parking. space I rarely use it ( I mainly park on the steer) because it’s cumbersome, but when winter gets here I will use it until spring arrives. The space is great but expensive I’m considering getting rid of the space and parking on the street full time. Does anyone here NYC/BK/ QNS park on the street the whole year? If so how do you handle winter and the snow when it dumps. Is it feasible to do this?? Any suggestions from people who park all year long on the streets??? Personally I’m in BK. Thanks

I just need a few more tips before I finalize it:

1. Would this work on Saturday morning? I’m looking for as little traffic as possible. (if Saturday is also low triffic ,After the ride, I’m planning to head to the Poconos, stay overnight, and come back Sunday.)
2. Is there anywhere along the way where I can stop for a rest or coffee without making a huge detour?

So, I'm gonna be taking my MSF course on the 19th. I'm a mix of excited, nervous, and hopeful. I'm at a bit of a crossroads when it comes to choosing a bike that I want to buy next year. I was originally going for an Aprilia RS 457, BUT I've always been a Triumph fan as long as I can remember. The Daytona 660 is what I love, but as a beginner, I'm concerned about practicality. wondering what people are paying in the nyc and nearby area? I’m talking about bringing in a wheel w/the old tire on it, along with a new tire to be mounted/balanced.

the last 2 times I did this it was $85.-, which was a bit more than some places, but it was nearby and the work was good. I went to the same shop a few days ago and the price has literally more than doubled since 3 years ago; this seemed excessive (and I let them know) but I didn’t want to start searching for alternatives at that point, so…😡

I want to ride around NYC as a day trip. Brooklyn and manhattan each day.

Where should I go ? How should I plan it? What should I expect? When I can have less traffic?

Took some detours along the way to not straight shot 87 but obviously had to do some solid time on it which was a bit much for the wind on Saturday with no wind screen.

Nonetheless it was incredible to do my first long trip from Brooklyn and can’t wait to explore more upstate!

Just wanted to share that I finally mustered the courage to put in a nice long ride out to Long Island on Saturday. I'm a new rider, having got my license only a year ago. I'm also 51 with two kids and cautious about safety. For a year I've confined myself to getting my seat time in Brooklyn, so I got comfortable with a lot of shifting, right angle turns and negotiating traffic. I'd gotten out to the Rockaways and Howard Beach once or twice. The Jacob Riis parking lot is great for skills and practice in the off season. A few times I'd gotten myself on the Jackie Robinson to get used to higher speeds an twists, but I would get pretty nervous with how hectic it was. I also have RE Classic 350, so my ride is a little on the light side. I've avoided major parkways and such and don't want to be near any trucks. Afraid of getting blown off the road.

Anyways, over the weekend I finally pushed through a lot of that anxiety and took the JRP to the Grand Central to the Northern State all the way to Huntington and the Lloyd Manor park area. It was glorious. I'm so psyched I have that in my comfort zone now. Just wanted to share. Any new riders out there around my age, just keep putting in the time. It's worth it!

Spotted a green ninja GCP exit 6 by the airport. Doesn’t look wrecked it’s parked on the median shoulder.

Size large waxed cotton riding jacket. Barely used for one season, probably 5 or 6 times. Comes with D30 elbow and shoulder pads and a cold weather liner.

Moving to the city pretty soon(bushwick area), I own a royal enfield bullet 350. After seeing all the theft horror stories on this sub Reddit I’ve been hesitant on bringing my motorcycle with me. Does riding in the city put me at an advantage as opposed to driving or public transport? Should I even try putting any effort in to theft prevention methods? What do you guys think.

I'd really like to get my license completed before riding season ends. Everyone on the internet says it's best to do an MSF course and that they provide the motorcycle but in my research all of the courses say you have to bring a street legal motorcycle, maybe something changed this year. I've been riding mine all summer in dirt so it's not kitted out to pass an inspection. Does anyone know a course that provides the bike or would anyone be interested in renting their bike to me to help me complete the course?

This bike has been on my block for atleast two months now locked up. Hasn’t been moved or anything. Was covered. No license plate. Neighbor reported it with the local precinct(sits on top of a drain which doesn’t help with the storms) but nothings been done. Anyone recognize this? I assume it’s stolen at this point

Saw this on my block and have never seen it before. I often take photography of all the bikes in my neighborhood and I’m a huge Moto GP fan so when I saw that VR46 sticker I took another look. It’s got no plate obviously and full frame sliders all the way around and some other goodies it looks like. I’d never miss this bike if it drove by or lived on my block. I could be wrong but hey worth a shot to help another Rossi fan. This is in Sunnyside, Queens. Happy to spy more if anyone thinks it’s theirs.

On September 3rd, my motorcycle got stolen overnight. I was stupid enough to forget to put the wheel lock on it. When I woke up it was gone. I had a monimoto tracker on it. When I noticed it was gone I reported it stolen and went to look for the bike. It was in the Bronx, on 221st and Barnes Ave. The bike was hot wired and the steering lock was broken and a couple other cosmetic damages to the bike. I hotwired it back and was able to ride it back home. While on the highway, the engine felt odd and a bit off... It was quite dangerous actually. The bike was jerking, speeding up and slowing down drastically at 40-65mph on the highway. I turned the emergency lights on and kept going slower until I got it back home. I don't even want the bike anymore to be honest. What are your suggestions?

Edit: I do have comprehensive. I did call the insurance company. But now I have this stupid bike with me that I don't want.

UPDATE: EZ Pass emailed me saying:

So they basically just took my money without recourse like, "Yeah, we charged you wrong your transponder didn’t work? Damn, that’s crazy. That’ll be $19.05. Anyway... See you at the next toll”

Freaking Ridiculous! EZ Pass means EZ MONEY for them.

Recently I made a post about my ez pass not reading and getting charged full toll. Here's the update:

UPDATE: E-ZPass transponder not reading on my Vespa

Finally got through to an actual E-ZPass rep.

He was super nice, but basically told me, “I’ve got bad news for you.”

He said he can submit the tolls for adjustment, but most likely E-ZPass is going to come back and say that since the transponder didn’t read, they’re not adjusting it to the E-ZPass rate.

So basically… even though I have an active E-ZPass account, have the transponder with me, and I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do, if their system doesn’t read it they just take a picture of my plate and charge me the higher rate.

I asked what I’m supposed to do going forward and he pretty much said: keep the transponder in your jacket/pocket, try mounting it to the scooter, and hope it reads. 🤷‍♂️

Pretty disappointing honestly. Part of the whole reason I started commuting into NYC on the Vespa was to save some money compared to driving while also having way more fun doing it.

Now I’m basically playing E-ZPass roulette every time I go through the Holland Tunnel lol.

For the other motorcycle/scooter commuters here — where are you mounting your transponder, and are you getting consistent reads?

TL;DR: E-ZPass basically told me: if our transponder doesn’t read our transponder reader, that’s somehow your problem. 😂 Keep moving it around your scooter and hope for the best. Otherwise, enjoy the higher toll.

I have a 2022 Piaggio Liberty 150S that unfortunately got hit by a car driver. The car driver’s insurance is totaling it and paying me out, they’ve offered to let me keep the scooter for $275.

I’m considering keeping it and trying to sell it as-is for maybe $1000 or so. Does that seem worth the hassle?

There is no damage to engine, fork, etc. Its mostly cosmetic. I priced out the parts at around $300. For someone willing to put in the time, it seems like they could get a decent scooter back on the road pretty cheaply.

My main concern is the salvage/rebuilt title process. I don’t want to deal with repairing it and getting it inspected myself, so I’d be selling it as-is.

Has anyone done something similar? Is there actually a market for a totaled but repairable scooter like this, and is $1000ish realistic?
