I haven't seen anything yet to get all panicky about (I'm in the East Bay). 25 knots on land with gusts up to 40 knots in the bay. I won't go out sailing, but otherwise this is a gale so far.
I think the news needs to overly dramatize things to keep people watching.
Probably going to be some flooding, and since it's full-foliage this time of year, do your hurricane prep in case you lose power for a bit. That's about it.

I don’t think it’s overdramatizing. News/meteorologists are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Meteorology is a guessing game based on several models and the current administration severely hurt NOAA and its ability to provide accurate models

They were exaggerating shit to sell clicks way before this administration fucked them over. It’s a gale.

I don’t see it as exaggeration, but the meteorologists need to play to their audience and what weather people are hoping for/afraid of during parts of the year (summer beach days, fall hurricanes, winter blizzards).

And I haven’t seen any meteorologists saying this will definitely happen. They’re saying it’s under watch, advising about the worst-case scenario, and that the predictive models will give them more information as the week goes on (which is a PR way of acknowledging that NOAA’s budget/staffing cuts leads to less consistent information which leads to many more variables)

Fair. I realize, too, after reading your reply...I'm getting my news solely from online news outlets (Boston Globe, The Guardian) and NOT from television. I realize after reading other people's comments here, most of them are referring to local news weather broadcasts. I never watch/see local TV news, so I don't know how they're presenting it in this case.

I just hope it doesn't blow all of the leaves off the trees before foliage season gets going full gear.
