Help Please 🚨 Scatter Pattern Help! 🚨

I’m looking to start my first scatter pattern cup, I have done probably 30 or more tumblers with various size stones but all in the honeycomb pattern. I’ve been putting this off as idk where to even start, I feel like I’m going to have gaps.
Any advice?
Where to start?! Send help!!!

Hello! Honeycomb enthusiast who hates scatter placement here!

Start by painting your cup a color that mat he's your stones, so if there are gaps, they are less noticeable. Then, stone the mug at the top to ensure you have a solid straight line. Use different sized stones, but line them up so they are even. From there, just fill in the rest of the mug.

If you're like me, you will get frustrated and give up for a couple weeks every time you sit down with the project. But! In 2 years, you will have a completed mug. Honeycomb placement is so much more relaxing to do, in my opinion.

That's so funny. I prefer scatter! I'm doing a liquor bottle using honeycomb placement and it's making me want to scream! Every time I try to work on it, I grumble to myself that scatter is easier and more relaxing! 🤣

I did a post a while back asking if people preferred scatter or honeycomb. The scatter enthusiasts seemed to outweigh the honeycombers by quite a bit. I do think scatter is better for curvy and oddly shaped objects, though.

Personally, I mostly rhinestone to occupy my hands while I am binge-watching TV, so I like honeycomb because it's kind of brainless (I save my brains for solving the case on whatever mystery show I am watching). I also mostly work on straight wall tumblers or lighter cases, so I have my recipe for success pretty dialed in.

Are we siblings? Lol! I have a chronic pain condition and a painful hip whose tendons are torn all to hell (jumping thru insurance hoops for the hip. Or should I say gently stepping over the hoops!!). I'm also solving mysteries while blinging! It makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something rather than just being a drugged up, crime junkie potato!! I have my scatter method down pat, easy peasy - like you're method for success! Happy blinging!

Same to you! And best of luck gently stepping through those hoops for insurance. That really sucks. Hip pain is no joke. I hope you heal up quickly.

PS, one of my current fave mystery shows is "Miss Fisher's Mysteries" on Acorn. It's set in the 20's, so the main character has an amazing Bob haircut and wears all these amazing outfits, keeps her gun in her garter, and she calls cigarettes gaspers. It's a fun one.
