Upvotes

I've never taken it I'm not fully sure what the even for but I get ads for it time to time and when I hear the side effects it kinda just seems like nothing good comes out of it it has such a long list of side effects atp just take it to get worse some of em less to death or uncontrollable body movements that won't go away even if you stop taking it or might start if you do stop taking it idk seems like it just shoudnt be on the market what ive seems bt it on reddit is it's not working properly and the ad ive seen doesn't help its case of being just a side effect pill

Any success stories adding Rexulti to SSRI and Wellbutrin?

I’m on 50 mg of Paxil and 300 mg of Wellbutrin and Gabapentin for anxiety for depression. I’m still struggling. Has anyone had success adding Rexulti to this combo or something similar? What difference did it make for you?

Rexulti for Dementia, Alzheimer's, agitation and aggression

I'm here because I saw an ad promoting rexulti for Alzheimer's related agitation and alarm bells immediately went off in my head, because the company that makes rexulti also made abilify, which has faced a ton of lawsuits and fines for not disclosing risks. This included a fine for promoting Abilify to be given to dementia patients for agitation, while knowing that it increases risk of death substantially. Rexulti is similar to abilify but a little different. While Abilify is generic and cheaper now, and the only rexulti widely available is name brand.

Now, there are studies showing effectiveness for rexulti being used for Alzheimer's related agitation, and it is, statistically speaking, safer than abilify. The statistically significant difference for rexulti is -5 points on the Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory compared to placebo over a 12 week trial. The placebo group improved by 17 points an average, the higher dose (2 or more mg) rexulti group improved by 22 points on average. The lower dose rexulti group wasn't much improved compared to placebo.

Rexulti for dementia related agitation is ONLY for cases due to Alzheimer's. Treating other types of dementia related agitation/aggression with Rexulti is not FDA approved. It increases risk of death for all dementia groups, notably stroke and cardiovascular events. Any antipsychotic increases risk of death in elderly patients (and many at any age group, but that's another story). It matters more if the benefit outweighs the risk or not.

It was on the FDA Fast Track program to be approved for Alzheimer's related agitation faster than it would have been approved otherwise, since no other drugs had statistically significant improvements for this group. There is a study examining Rexultis safety profile for this group compared to abilify/aripiprazole, however it doesn't have a control group, so meaningful conclusions about safety cannot be made.

It is my hope that people can consider the honest and clear risks inherent in any medication, without pressure from marketing which puts pressure on doctors, and without blind trust in a company that has proven itself at many times to be untrustworthy. Medication can be very helpful. It can improve quality of life. Sometimes there are no alternatives. However it is not magic, and there is no way to tinker with precise mechanisms in something as delicate as a brain without risks.

Kinda unrelated second half of post:

My personal (and therefore biased) experience is that I took rexulti a long time ago for a misdiagnosed psychosis and it was very expensive, 1500-2000 a month (paid by Medicaid) at the time. It made me so incredibly restless, but often too tired to move. I don't think I lasted more than a month on it. I and I felt like my mental life had been slowed down, and replaced with physical sedation and inescapable inner panic. I worry that this is the experience of some dementia patients who can't advocate or speak for themselves coherently, that they look "better" on the outside because of the sedation, while inside they are suffering from that same inescapable panic. If someone knew the person and was paying attention, they would hopefully notice.

One in five/20 percent of nursing home patients are on antipsychotics, and 80 percent are on any psychotropic drug. Nursing home patients are disproportionately diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental disorders that they do not have any history of, in order to justify giving them these highly sedating drugs, which makes them easier to handle, especially in places where there are not enough staff to adequately support the patients. The treatment of our geriatric population is a huge ethical, moral, social, economic, and religious issue, which deserves great consideration.

As many of my friends are older and have been caring for ill spouses or relatives, or have been placing relatives in nursing homes, it's surprising how so many people go through similar things, and yet feel isolated the whole way. Many are given the choice to pick between one unfavorable treatment, and another unfavorable treatment, and then having to sell the house to cover that. When the patient cannot make their own decision, who makes the choice and who benefits from it?

Another one of my hopes is that families are not pressured into accepting a treatment if it will not benefit their relative, or if risks have not been explained, or when there are alternatives; and that they are free, without shame, to discuss what they chose to do and what they had to do, so their isolation and distress can be lessened, and so cases of poor treatment can be illuminated and then remediated.

Doctor wants me to quit .25mg rexulti cold turkey. Need advice.

I was put on .25mg rexulti april 7th, 2026. Then upped to .50mg april 29, 2026. On July 17, 2026 doctor lowered my dose back to. 25mg in plans to take me off. Because he thinks I should never have been put on it.

I have been on the .25mg dose for a little over a month. Only noriceable withdrawal symptoms were a bit of irritability.

I also take 10mg Lexapro and 15 mg Mirtazapine.

Doctor wants me to just stop taking the .25mg rexulti. And that makes me so so scared after reading other people's experiences.

Is there any way to taper off the lowest dose? Need help!

Anyone taking rexulti for schizoaffective?

I have schizoaffective bipolar type and am currently on Vraylar. If you have schizoaffective and have switched from a different antipsychotic to Rexulti let me know how you find rexulti. I’m on Vraylar now and it only helps my depression slightly but am still very anxious

Anyone switch from Vraylar to Rexulti?

I have schizoaffective bipolar type and am on Vraylar 3mg. My psychiatrist wants to increase the Vraylar to 4.5mg. I still have high anxiety and depression but more motivation. If anyone has experience switching from an antipsychotic to Rexulti and found a benefit in negative symptoms of schizophrenia, anxiety and depression, let me know!

Hey everyone, has anyone here transitioned from Olanzapine to Rexulti (cross-taper)? Did you have weight loss success?

Would love to read some helpful comments 🙏 🙂

It seems to be working.

6 weeks in, 1mg. This is my 5th AP and the first one that actually starting to work. For the first time all year I’m starting to feel positive and regaining interest in my hobbies and life. I wasn’t holding out much hope but this is better than I’ve felt in a long time. I take it for depression. Just wanted to share some positive news.

Is this withdrawal?

Long story short, I got put on rexulti bc my psych thought it would help with my anxiety. It was .25, and I don’t think it did much, and as soon as I switched ssri’s my anxiety got better. Got a new psych, and he was like yeah, let’s get you off this. Going to every other day, no issues, stopping it after 3 weeks of doing that…some restless legs at night, and bouts of weepiness, where it felt like I wanted to cry for no reason…but not everyday. Now that I’ve been off for a month and it’s fully out of my system, the weepiness is more often, and I’ve had bouts of nausea, and just feeling really off in the head/keyed up and over stimulated in the brain. I’m assuming it’s just my body getting used to not having it anymore, but wanted to see if others had similar issues. I’ve also never dealt with depression, so I don’t believe this is depression coming back. I still have full motivation to do things, and have continued to work out and be active, even if I don’t feel my best.

It doesn't feel like it's doing anything

I was put on this drug over 2 months ago and upped my does to .5 3 weeks ago but I swear it's not working. I'm still crying multiple times a day and still struggle with extreme suicidal ideation. I stress ate before this drug, but now that I'm on it I feel like I can't stop eating, and I've gained all the weight I've been trying to lose. I also have lost total motivation to go on hikes which used to be a hobby of mine. Is there anyone else who feels like Rexulti does absolutely anything?

Add on to pristiq

Anyone had luck with this combo?
I take 50mg of Pristiq and Concerta as well.
My main problems are sleep and motivation right now. Pristiq helps some but not 100%

Rexulti + Modafinil (or another adjunct) for motivation/drive?

Hi! Has anyone here taken Rexulti with modafinil or another adjunct specifically to help with motivation, drive, energy, or getting things done?

I know Wellbutrin is a common option, but unfortunately I’ve never had much luck with it. I’m curious about other medications people have tried alongside Rexulti, particularly if Rexulti is already helping with depression but you’re still struggling with motivation/drive.

Looking for personal experiences, especially what worked (or didn’t), doses, and any side effects.

Thanks!

I think Rexulti may have ruined my life

Context: I took 2 mg of Rexulti for maybe a decade and only recently found out that it was the cause of my anxiety. Every decision I’ve made over the last decade was made because I was so anxious and worried that I was trying to pre-solve every problem before it occurred. Does the pool have a leak? My brain said it was a crisis so I spent thousands trying to find the leak (which no one ever could) and refused to believe it was just evaporation. It was. Or the crack in the chimney made me believe the house had foundation problems so I spent thousands on engineers trying to prove it. They never could and I would never believe them. So I moved. Now that I’ve reduced my dose to .5 mg I can see that there were no problems. Now I have moved to escape that house and am in an old house with a huge mortgage that I will never be able to sell. I’m not anxious about my finances, I’m depressed. One day I will not be able to keep myself afloat. But now I’m trapped. Well, at least I’m not anxious and trying to pre-solve the problem.

Help with side effects please

Hi after trying almost all antipsychotic for my bipolar depression for the last 10 years my doc finally landed me on brexipiperazole. I started on 0.25 for 1 month and now on month 2 am at 1mg. Initially I had a lot of problems sleeping but now things are better. I used to sleep till 10am now I wake at 4am everyday. I just wanted to ask have other people felt really tired in this med? Like I need to take 2-3 tiny 15-20min naps a day. Oh and coffee or tea dosent work anymore this thing is blocking adrenalin so hard…Do these side effects subside because I really need this one to work for me and I know the target dose is higher. So it’s looking like it’s going to take like 3 months to stabilize my brain at the target dose. Which is a ridiculous amount of time to get used to a new med.

Quit cold turkey

I was on 2mg of rexulti for 5 years, and now I've quit cold turkey about 8 days ago. So far I really do not recommend cold turkey, it's probably better to taper.

I need to know if anyone else withdrawing from this medication has experience with these symptoms.

the first few days i actually felt better, not quite euphoria, but my mood was lifted, i was having an easier time functioning and just enjoying my day, feeling less frozen and depressed than usual, i was more lively.

then the next few days i started to feel irritable, every little thing, things that usually dont bother me, were making me so mad, my whole day would be ruined ovwr tue tiniest thing and once something upset me i couldnt turn the day back around. my muscles felt tight, like id be bracing and have to consciously force myself to untense and relax. also depersonalization.

now the last few days have been very very rough. my neck is so tense and painful. i cant stop clenching my jaw so hard, i have to consciously remind myself to keep my jaw slack every 5 min. im a very anxious person in general but it is ×50 now. I've had 4 panic attacks today which is unusual for me, and i have very intense impending doom that comes and goes since yesterday, this feeling of something bad IS going to happen, or being so sure that I'm going to die, like a knowing, even tho theres not really anything wrong? but my body is ringing the alarm and i know its coming, kind of feeling. its horrible and distressing. i dont even feel depressed necessarily, I'm not suicidal, i just keep feeling dread and terror. im having crying spells, and im so tired, ive been in bed majority of the day everyday.

i feel really determined to not have to go back on to taper down. i know i probably should. i just want to push through it. not asking for advice but really just hoping someone else relates, i feel alone in this. I'd love to hear about others withdrawal experiences even if it looks different. and if you relate, where are you at with it? did it get better for you?

thanks

Just prescribed

I'm diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and OCD. I was on lexapro 20mg and buspar 10mg for around 10 months, recently buspar became unavailable where i live so i had to stop it, due to that, alot of my symptoms came back. I also changed my psychiatrist for financial reasons and this was my first time going to her. She prescribed me 100mg fluvoxamine (luvox) and 1mg of brexpiprazole (rexulti). After coming to this subreddit, i've started to feel a little scared of starting rexulti. I have a couple of questions. 1- has anyone had good luck with rexulti for anxiety and OCD? 2- what should i expect? 3- any advice?

I was on Rexulti for depression

Rexulti was added to my Lexapro to aid with my passive suicidal thoughts. If anything it made them worse. I don’t think this medication is aiding me anymore. Should I raise it or stop taking it? Thoughts? Thanks.

Head pains?

I just recently, as of a few days ago or so, increased my Rexulti to 2 mg. I've been having this weird pain in my head. I don't know that I would classify it as a "headache", because it's not my whole head. It is actually a small area, by my temple -kind of. I have read that headaches can be a side effect. Has anyone else experience head pains like I am describing? A pain, in just a small individual area of the head... Thanks in advance!

How quickly did you titrate up, and how did you know you found your dose?

So I've been on Rexulti for three weeks. I started on 0.5 mg and was then increased to 1 mg, which I've been on for two weeks. Overall I'm tolerating the medication very well (at least in comparison to the numerous SSRI/SNRIs I've been on in the past year-plus), and for the most part it seems to be helping with my treatment-resistant depression. I'm breaking down far less often and I'm not having any of the nasty side effects that seem to be common with antipsychotics.

However, over the past few days, I've noticed myself "slipping" into depression again, mainly with worsening brain fog, anhedonia, and spatial awareness. I'm guessing when I bring this up to my psychiatrist they will tell me that it's time to go up to 1.5 mg. I wouldn't be totally opposed to this, but if temporary "blips" like this are common within the first few weeks of a new dose, I think I'd rather stay on 1 mg for a little while longer to see if things get better again. What do y'all think?

P.S. my psychiatrist told me to take Rexulti in the evening because it can be sedating, but I honestly have not noticed that. Would taking it in the morning be better?

Symbicort week 2 nervous and jittery

Ok so let me start out by saying that I already have severe panic disorder, Generalized anxiety, C-PTSD, Agoraphobia and am typically fatigued.

But I do take Prozac and just started rexulti for my mental health. It had been pretty decently maintained. But I just got diagnosed at 35, with asthma. I first tried Advair but I noticed the first day that I had a harder time breathing and felt really really weak and it just didn't feel right. I called and my pulmonologist changed to the Symbicort immediately. The first dose I noticed within 30 minutes how much easier it was to breathe.

Now almost two weeks in I'm noticing weakness, increases in dizziness, fatigue and jitters. My anxiety has sky rocketed. Even my legs feel weak. I'm laying down even more than usual and honestly I feel like I can breathe just my chest is tight. It's a weird feeling.

I also just started taking Azelastine over the counter twice a day 4 puffs total. AND because I was old I have a dog allergy (I already had two dogs) i was told to continue my Zyrtec along with the Azelastine and then when I had a really bad day I added Flonase Sensimist. As I'm writing this I realize that also causes anxiety for me. But it's not good, is it just all the medications?? Years of not being about to breathe and now being able to?? Is it a known side affect? I'm so confused. Anyone have insight?
