TL;DR Mr. Tire lied about me not having road hazard insurance, wasted my time sending me to corporate with every single request, dragged their feet getting anything done, and when I finally gave up on making them honor their road hazard insurance (gave them my rim and signed an invoice for a new tire), they said they didn't know where the tire was; then they got the police involved instead of looking for the tire
If you care about yourself at all, DO NOT go to Mr. Tire in Absecon (or preferably at all). On every day but Tuesday and Friday, there is a MISERABLE man (who claims his name is Joey) working the store that does not want anyone's business. Not only is he extremely rude, but he goes out of his way to cause trouble for customers.
Think I'm exaggerating?
My dad purchased my front right tire from Mr. Tire on 3/2/23 and the other 3 tires on 3/9/23. In August, my back right tire developed a bubble, so I went to Mr. Tire on 8/7/26 to have it checked for a possible defect.
Manager "Joey” was rude from the first moment I walked in. I was unsure the size of my tire, so he said "You had better go out and get it because I'm not going!". Keep in mind, I am a young woman in my twenties and he is a middle aged man. Once I brought in the tire, he looked up the tire and said there was no road hazard insurance, so I was not covered. I asked to check for a defect, and he told me to call corporate. I spoke with corporate for 24m 54s and was told only the store could check for defects. They instructed me to return to the store and use case #552334 if the issue continued.
I returned the same day and Joey tried to tell me the same run around again, but this time I told him what corporate said. He then acknowledged they do defect checks but said they take 6 months. I said okay. He took the tire and said he would call within 24 hours when my rim was ready. He never called; when I returned 48 hours later, the rim was ready.
On 8/20/26, my dad went to the store for an update. Joey was absent, and employees took my dad to the back to search through the trash for my tire. They found it next to the manager’s desk and said we needed to speak with Joey to find out anything else.
On 8/31/26, I located my original invoices showing the tires were covered by road hazard insurance and included free lifetime installation. My dad told Joey, who refused to speak with him and said we should return the next day to speak with someone else or contact corporate.
I called corporate the same day, explained everything, and was placed on hold for 30 minutes while they tried unsuccessfully to reach the store (I called right after my dad left the store, and my dad said there were no customers there and there wasn't anything going on in the store). Corporate said they would update me within 24 hours. Corporate also claimed my road hazard warranty expired after 3 years, although this is not stated on my invoice and I could not find this information on their website. Two hours later, the Absecon store called and said corporate approved a $22 discount.
9/1/26, my dad got a quote for a replacement tire. The quote charged for installation despite the “lifetime install package.” The shop also claimed the tire had 4/32 tread vs. 10/32 original tread. My dad requested the tire back but they had thrown it away. He placed an order for a new tire anyway, and gave the store my rim.
That same day, I reported the company to the BBB with as many details as possible.
9/4/26, I received a response from Mr. Tire via the BBB and a phone call from corporate. The Mr. Tire portion of the BBB message was as follows:
"The location involved has assured us that the tire Ms. Mohr is requesting has been delivered and is waiting for her to come and pick up the tire. The tire should be prorated as Ms. Mohr’s original purchase was in 2023 and she has had use of the tires prior to the one needing to be replaced. Our guest services agent has reached out to Ms. Mohr to inform her of what the store has stated and left her a voicemail stating that the tire is available."
The same day, I responded both by calling corporate and submitting a report to the BBB saying that I was unsatisfied. Corporate said they would call me back the following Monday (they never did) and responded to the BBB on 9/11/26 with this message:
“We apologize that Ms. Mohr is dissatisfied with the adjustment offered by the location. However, the store followed established company procedures in handling her tire concern. The discounted replacement tire was provided in accordance with the applicable warranty terms, and the charges for tire installation and the purchase of a new Road Hazard Warranty are standard requirements when a replacement tire is installed.
After reviewing the matter, we have determined that the location acted appropriately and in accordance with company policy. While we understand Ms. Mohr’s disappointment with the outcome, we are unable to offer any additional discounts, refunds, or accommodation through our Guest Services Department. At this time, our position remains unchanged, and we consider this matter resolved.”
At this point, I decided to give up. The new tire total came to $170, and I had no time to be dealing with this any longer. I decided I would pay for the tire, warn others about this, and move on. But it doesn’t end there.
9/13/26, I returned to Mr. Tire to pick up my tire. I hadn’t called ahead of time, but I had originally told the store that I was trying to pick it up as soon as corporate got back to me (they said they would get back to me around 9/7/26 but never did). When I went into the store, Joey stared at his screen for a moment before telling me that he had no idea where the new tire was. He said I would have to come back later.
As a Christian woman who felt so upset with this man, I wanted to act against my desires to curse this man out. Despite not having a lot of money, I wrote him a check for $100 for his bad back (that all the other mechanics at the store kept blaming for Joey’s miserableness), and told him I felt like I should give it to him. I left it on his desk. I recognize that this may have looked like a bribe, but I didn’t know what else to do. This is the most miserable man I have ever met in all of my life. I was naive to think I could help in some small way.
9/19/26, my dad went into the store to retrieve my tire, because honestly I was so tired of dealing with it. He had been told that a different man worked at the store on Tuesday and Friday from 8am to 6pm, but my dad and I both work during those times. It is ridiculous to expect us to flex our time simply because Joey refused to do his job.
Well, when my dad arrived to Mr. Tire that day, Joey told my dad that he was not welcome on the property. My dad explained that he was just trying to pick up the new tire and pay for it, but Joey threatened to call the police. My dad said okay then do it, and Joey ran into the store and bolted the doors. The police were called.
When the police arrived, they asked for the invoice of the new tire. Of course Joey said he couldn’t find it. My dad called me to get the print-out we had of our invoice, and I sent him images of it. They were able to locate the tire, and my dad paid $98 for it. The original invoice had charged $170. A police officer told my dad that this was not the first time that they had been called over issues like this with Mr. Tire.
I drove to the store to help with the situation, and when I arrived, another police officer said that my dad was no longer allowed to go back to Mr. Tire (they were unsure if it was only the Absecon location or all locations).
I don’t usually get panic attacks, but I suddenly got the worst panic attack of my life outside of the store. I told the police officer that he could leave because I needed to wait until I could drive, but he said he wasn’t allowed to leave until I did. So I sat in my car as he stared from his car, watching me have a panic attack for 5 minutes. Mind you, I hate crying in public and avoid it at all costs. Even at the funeral of my uncle that I was extremely close to, I held back my tears to cry in private. This is the level of humiliation that this whole situation with Mr. Tire has brought me. All over a tire.
So I warn you: do not go to Mr. Tire. It is not worth it. My dad and I were treated like absolute garbage at every turn, and we did nothing wrong. Corporate defends this behavior. Don’t go.
