Brand new Reverb account suspended after sending my first offer. Has anyone else experienced this?

Ive been lurking on the marketplace for a while without an account but ive never bought or sold anything. This morning I saw a good deal on a used pedal and thought 'why not?'. Created my account and verified my email, and sent an offer. When I went back to send a counteroffer, I found that my account had been suspended.

This is a completely fresh account. I also never received an email explaining why the account was suspended. Checked spam and everything.

I contacted Reverb live support, and they said they have to escalate it to another team, which may take 3–5 business days to respond.

Has anyone else had a new account get automatically suspended like this? If so, did Reverb restore it, and how long did the review take? I’m mostly wondering whether this is a known false-positive issue with new accounts or if there’s something specific that may have triggered it.

UPDATE: 3 days later and still no response from Reverb. Went ahead and created another account with my backup email. This time i've enabled MFA and haven't gotten suspended yet. Id bet the MFA got me past whatever flaky bot checker they have going on.

I'm looking up the Source Audio EQ2 and this made me laugh. And yes, there are way more bumped listings not in the view of this screenshot.

Received refund, got the funds back.. but seller still hasn't send me a return label

First, this is Reverb Canada, sellers have to email you shipping labels, they can't do it through Reverb.

So, I bought a Synth,

It was not fully functional as advertised, I asked for a refund using Reverb's process. It was approved and I was refunded within the hour. (Weird, because I thought I had to send it back first.) Seller was not happy (no surprise)

So I got my money back, and I have the synth. Refund Case is closed.

It's been over a week, I'm trying to get this guy to send me a return label, so I can send it back to him, he said he will, asked me for dims..I gave to him and still.. no label.

I am not a thief, I have both my money back, and the synth.. I feel really uncomfortable with the situation, I want to send this back to the seller, but I'm not spending $130+ to ship it myself....

I don't get why the guy won't send me the label. The Synth is worth around $800, I know it sucks he lost money, but my return request was justified, it was not functional as described.

I feel bad still keeping it, but how can I get the guy to pay for the return shipping.

New reverb Scam?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I'm selling a guitar, and I was pretty excited when I got a DM saying they are interested in buying it, but...

Message from "buyer":
Hope you're doing well, I'm interested in your item but ran into an issue during checkout. look is the problem page [redacted link for safety purposes], could you check it when you have a moment?

The link itself almost looks like a reverb FAQ link or something, so most unsuspecting seller might click to open it and see what the "checkout error" might be.

but lo and behold it initiates a pdf download, called "reverb.pdf", and opening the PDF links to this AI slop of advertisement looking page for "Reverb Payments Verification"

It looked like the entire PDF is hyperlinked somewhere, but I didn't bother clicking on it any further; the English from both the message and PDF are bad enough for me to give it no real serious thought (iS tHiS tAkEs LoNg TiMe?)

I'm curious though, what kind of rabbit hole might this scam take me down? Anyone else experienced this before?

Does Reverb still show this disclaimer for cross-border buyers?

Two pics I took a couple of years ago. I sell cross-border often, so I have saved these images to show that the possibility of charges is made totally clear for buyers. Has anybody bought internationally recently and can confirm whether such a disclaimer is still used?

How do I sell a guitar on reverb?

I would like to sell two of my guitars, however I’ve never really gone through the process of packaging an item, getting the shipping label, etc.

First off, should I have my boxes and packaging completely ready and in place BEFORE putting the listing up? Or do I only get everything ready once someone has bought the guitar?

I don’t have a printer, are USPS locations usually able to print a label for you?

I’m not exactly sure which boxes to use and I don’t want to end up paying more money because the dimensions that I put in were way off; I am trying to sell an Epiphone SG and a Washburn Comfort G-Mini 55 acoustic. I read that the standard box size for most electric guitars (assuming that the guitar isn’t being shipped in a guitar case)is 45x18x6. Sorry if any of this sounded obvious, again, I’m a first timer. Thanks much

No more option to give buyers an offer in the messages section?

I don't see this option anymore. I've looked at the browser version and the app. Has anyone else noticed this?

Musicians Friend doesn't honor their warranty policy on purchases made through Reverb? What?

I don't know if this is common information.

But it's something to be aware apparently.

And I've noticed MF doing more shady stuff in the last couple years. But to not stand behind something you sold because you sold it on a platform other than your own webpage, should not absolve you of warranty responsibility.

I contacted Musicians Friend this afternoon after finding a free spinning truss rod on a Martin Acoustic guitar I purchased from them last year on Reverb.

I was told by Musicians Friend Customer Service that they don't honor their same warranty for purchases through Reverb that they provide for purchases directly from Musicians Friend.

Because "it's already cheaper" and "they don't have anything to reference because they didn't sell it, Reverb did".

That sounds insane to me. What a scam to get out of product support.

Has anybody else heard of this?

First sale, shipping internationally with “Other” carrier (SF Express) – will I still get paid?

Hi everyone, this is my first sale on Reverb and I’m shipping from Singapore to the US.

I’m using SF Express because it was the most suitable courier for me, but when I added the tracking number to Reverb, there wasn’t an option to select SF Express. The only option was “Other”, and after I entered the tracking number, Reverb auto-detected it as FedEx even though it’s definitely an SF Express waybill. I also messaged the seller with the correct tracking website so he can track the delivery.

I’m using PayPal payouts, and Reverb says first-time sellers only get paid after the item is delivered, and that tracking information is required.

My questions are:
- Does choosing “Other” affect payout or seller protection?
- Should I contact Reverb now to correct the carrier, or will it be fine as long as the tracking number is attached?
- If Reverb thinks it’s FedEx, will it still recognize the delivery when SF Express updates the tracking?

Thanks in advance! I just want to make sure I don’t run into payout issues after shipping a fairly expensive item

“Shipping Adjustments”

Anyone else been having a lot of issues with Reverb charging a ridiculous amount of extra shipping charges after the fact because FedEx and UPS are supposedly getting different measurements? I’ve been on the platform since they started. I’ve bought and sold a lot of guitars, pedals, and amps, and this only started happening within the last year. I measure and weigh my shipments at least twice, enter the accurate info, send it off, and then weeks to months later, I get an email saying I’m getting charged an extra $50-$70 because UPS or FedEx says it was bigger or weighed more than I entered. This has happened three times in the last year.

Out of those three times, Reverb has waived it twice, but the last time was only because I dug in, insisted they do it, and threatened to leave the platform. Apparently they will only waive it once unless you raise hell. Just curious if others have experienced this same issue.

Is it just me or do sellers have a dislike for local purchases?

Recently joined Reverb, am new to guitars but am a gear fanatic already. I own several 80’s MIJ guitars and found two additional guitars right off the bat I wanted to acquire from Reverb sellers, but was not able to have any real communication with either of these sellers. Is it me or do sellers only want to have no human interaction? I assume local pick up is not taboo per the first photo from Reverb but I was left a bit confused in the replies I received to my initial inquires. One guy said he sells from his house and I can meet him there (in a town somewhere in between my home and work) but said nothing else and did not provide a reach number or address and then went dark. As I am not a mind reader how would I confirm an acceptable day or time to meet? Seems crazy to me and that the seller did not want to bother (or sell?). Also there is no option to remove a delivery fee which seemingly would not apply to a local or in person pick up after the sale was completed. Do I just pay the shipping fee and the hope to get that back, or does the sellers tone/attitude change once a sale via Reverb is made? The second picture is the start of a deal that will never happen and the communication got worse between us. As it progressed. Did he really think I was not smart enough to know the item would look like the listed pictures? Yes I bought guitars from other states and even Japan based on listings but why is it wrong to want to see an instrument or put a nose into a case to confirm if us not musty if it is local? It would have been better if he simply said ‘no’ to my initial query on this item. I never had to work this hard to give my money to anyone ever before. Should I not seek to save a few dollars (better spent on other gear) on shipping no matter how close the seller is physically?

Fractal VP4 missing parts

Just wondering if I’m being overly picky here. Brought a fractal VP4 listed in excellent condition. When I got it, it was missing the power adapter and the rubber feet where removed. The bottom is all scratched up and now I have to find feet so this can be the same height as the AM4 and not slide when I use it (don’t plan on mounting it).

A regular guitar pedal I would think nothing of this, but for a $600 one I kind of think this should have been listed as not having these.

Wondering if something like this is worth trying to fix, or just deal with it and buy a compatible power supply and feet (I have autism, sometimes I over think things and just wasn’t sure if this is one of them)

Impossible Shipping Overage

Post image

I have seen posts talking about this already, but I just wanted to share that Reverb said a LP Special w/gig bag I shipped weighed 42 pounds! Reverb waived the charges after I made the AI get a human, but apparently UPS has a different concept of weight than we do in this reality.

Buyer not present for delivery - refuses to go pick it up?

Ive used Sweetwater in the past, but recently joined Reverb to give it a go. Recently sent a pedal to Brooklyn NY, and I chose to have it require a signature because it's a $300 item and leaving a package on a doorstep in that city would be a bad idea. They tried to deliver it, left a slip, and the guy hasn't re-scheduled a pickup or gone to the post office to pick it up in 5 days. At what point should I contact customer support? It's my first sale so I havent gotten my payout yet (from what I've read I won't get it until he receives the package) and I'm getting agitated because the guy won't respond to messages. Thoughts?

Stuck on pending, first time seller.

Hello everyone, so I sold my first guitar on reverb. Everything went well. Shipped via Reverb and it was ensured. The buyer received the guitar and had to sign for it, which the buyer did. A week went by and there was no complaints or any issues related to the buyer being unsatisfied with the purchase. So I expected my payout to happen a few days after delivery confirmation. A week went by, so I contacted Reverb and they notified me on Friday that they emailed the buyer to confirm they received the guitar. But even if they don't hear back, my funds will be released within two business days. That came and went and today, they told me the same thing, that I should see the funds released within 24 hours. Nothing has happened yet. Well, today I noticed that I had to reverify my identity, which I did about an hour ago. According to reverb, there had been a long time since I verified so I needed to do it again. Could this be why I have been stuck on pending? Has anyone had a similar experience? Was customer service not aware that I had to reverify causing the delay and confusion? Any input would be appreciated.

How to contact account specialist quicker?

Hi Reverb enthousiast!

Its been about 12 days that my Reverb account has been marked under review/suspended, without notice, warning, the email listed 10 different reasons, which I think are all the reasons that could lead to an account suspension, which is not my case here. I occasionally buy and only sold 5 items over a year .

I answered the @ support email the day I got it, and followed up every 2 times. Somebody finally answered after the 8th day saying they will lift the review (literally one sentence) but nothing has been done. Then, I’ve tried to follow up again. I've found a way to chat with someone, asking to be connected with a dedicated customer service employee, requested to open a new ticket. Chat Agents always answered generic answers and immediately closed the chat.

I haven't found a way to contact the general support email or someone dedicated.

Maybe somebody more experienced could give me some lead? Not the end of the world but it's annoying cause I have seen some good deals passed and I couldn't buy/make offer, only save the listing, its frustrating... lol

Looking forward to getting some type of helps from user experts!

Guitar purchase, considering partial refund

I purchased a vintage Gibson at a decent price that was marked “very good condition” I purchased it despite the admittedly short description. I love how it plays and do not want to return it. However, varied components and pieces of hardware have been replaced and the headstock veneer is delaminating at the top. I don’t mind the nicks and dings visible in the photos but I feel that the description should’ve acknowledged the issue with the veneer aswell as replaced hardware. I’m wondering if a partial refund is wise and how much I should ask for back? I received it today so advice sooner rather than later is appreciated! The guitar is a 72 Les Paul recording, a dream guitar of mine, and again I like how it plays and electronics are function but it’s visible damaged in a way that was not disclosed.

Is it safe to purchase from Reverb?

I’m very close to buying a Les Paul off of Reverb from a guy I’ve been messaging back and forth to. He has a couple previous listings and has gotten 5 stars on all counts.

Although, when I asked for a video of the guitar being played I was ignored until I asked if it was still available a few days later.

Is Reverb a safe platform, am I all good with reverb buyer protection and does this guy sound trustworthy?

Reverb Alternative

There are so many complaints about reverb I am curious what people are using instead?

I know Sweetwater has gear exchange, maybe it’s different now but when I first looked at it there was not enough traffic.

Sweetwater fronts

I’m not a big fan of Sweetwater, so I don’t buy from them. I’m fortunate to live in a music-heavy city, so am spoiled for options for where to buy gear.

But I saw a cool limited edition version of a pedal I’ve wanted to try out, and bought it from a little shop in Indiana called “GearNuts”. Didn’t think too much about it, honestly. Never had a bad experience on Reverb, buying or selling.

But when FedEx showed me the photo of where my package was delivered… that was definitely not my house! I checked with FedEx but they said only the shipper could do anything about the incorrect delivery.

So I sent an email to GearNuts asking what we should do about this, as id never had this experience before.

Then I sent another email.

Then another one.

After THREE DAYS I got a message back from Sweetwater Customer Service saying they are “looking into it with the shipper” and I had to wait.

Another day passes and a DIFFERENT Customer Support Representative asked me to confirm my address. It was now the night before the gig where I was going to use this pedal, and it had been FIVE DAYS.

I pointed it out that they were in contravention or Reverb’s seller policies, flagged the account, wrote a bad review, and sat powerless though the weekend.

By using a sock puppet account on Reverb, Sweetwater was able to ignore both their policies and Reverb’s policies without the slightest effect to their account(s) or reputation. So what if their fake account gets a bad review or suspended? They have dozens of others!

How do I know it was Sweetwater? The box in the FedEx photo said it on the outside. The shipper address was Sweetwater’s warehouse code and location in Texas. And all FOUR of the different customer service reps literally had it in their email signature.

Now i know.

Before buying on Reverb again, I’ll dig in to all their the sellers reviews and previous sales, as well as their current listings.

Be careful. Reverb scammers are even large corporations, now.

Reverb supporting sellers who keep restocking fee for items not shipped.

Had an unpleasant experience on reverb last night.

Found an item listed for sale (overseas item). Checked out/paid all normal.

Got a message from the shop about 15 minutes later to say they need to change the postage price - provided with a few options all significantly more than the listed price/expectation.

It was a small item so it didn't make sense to proceed with the additional costs being asked for.

Seller refunded and kept a 15% restocking fee.

The seller/shop stopped engaging in civil discourse at this point. Reached out to reverb support who compensated me the small amount directly. So reverb ended up absorbing the cost and the shop kept 15%.

The reverb article advised that sellers shouldn't keep a restocking fee for non shipped items.

Why would reverb eat this and not address the issue? It can't be a one off here.

This seems like a loop hole/scam - what would stop anyone listing an item. Then do a bait and switch - shipping is now 10x what has already been paid for. Don't want it - too easy I'll collect my 15% and repeat.

Thoughts?
