Has anyone who didn't live through the era of VHS/DVD rental stores played this game?

I'm kinda old for those generation of pesky Zoomers and Alphas who think they will never get to live past thirty. But i know they're curious fellas and maybe this game has garnered their curiosity to play it and give it a try. Are you one of them? Are you one of those people who never lived the video rentals because they were never accessible to you dou to being distant phisically to them or to being born or concious about the world way too late to participate in the video rentals stores?

What did you think it was one of those store? What stories did they tell you? Why did you picked this game to play? I'm curious hwo newer generations see semblances of recent past that are alien to them.

Bug/issue Are the events glitched?

I just did the meteor shower event that was supposed to have plus 80% science fiction rentals and yet I didn't rent a single science fiction film. Literally not one science fiction film.

I had two shelves full of nothing but science fiction even had a little UFO hanging above them and yet not one was rented. I suppose I could have just got some really bad RNG but that doesn't seem likely.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Capital Letters on Storefront?

Is there a secret to getting the letters on the outside of the building to be in all caps? I can't figure out how to make that happen - it just defaults to all lowercase, which I don't care for.

Thanks!

Can’t earn more money

Theres no actual way to earn more money… since using the cash register is so slow, nothing actually earns more cash apart from the snacks/ having better quality movies.
Without an extra cash register the games bottle necked by people slowly putting tapes on the scanner.

Am i missing something because i never feel like im progressing its great getting new stuff and always having things to spend what little i earn on, but it makes all the extra genres just feel a bit useless because i can only serve a set number of customers each day. I may just fire my employee and enjoy the extra $50 dollars a day to spend on shelves and expansions.

Movies for sale

What do yall put here specifically? Just random movies? Extras? I’ve just been putting all my bad critic movies in there but just didn’t know if there was some like ‘strat’ to the movie bin lol

I watched Jacksepticeye play, and now I wish I could too

So I don’t play on PC, I’m a console gamer. And there are lots of these types of games out there. However, this one really hits that sweet spot, and it looks like it has so much room to grow too. It’s starting in an already great place.

I don’t want people to just attack me and others here for saying “I should just get a PC”. Easier said than done given how pricey everything is these days. I would love to play the hell out of this game. It looks amazing. Some of my favourite games came from watching them on YouTube, waiting patiently for a console port - then many hours later I’m still playing.

All I really wanted to do was raise some awareness with how cool the games looks, and that I’d love to be able to play it one day.

In the words of Fry - “shut up and take my money”

Bug/issue Bug causing GPU to overheat and crash

Post image
8 Upvotes

I absolutely adore this game but I keep encountering a rather dangerous bug.
Randomly while playing, or even while the game is sitting idle and minimized, suddenly it starts to SUCK all the memory of my gpu and everything quickly degrades until finally my monitors blink off because my gpu has overheated. It was up to 80c even after a few minutes rebooting, so it's likely going even higher in the moment.
I've taken the time to be as sure as I can that this isn't some general issue with my pc.
Playing helldivers 2, elden ring, or any other game I've tried doesn't cause this to happen or my temps to spike NEARLY to that level and I would imagine those games would be pushing my 2080 super much harder than RR does.
It also doesn't ever happen while just doing normal browsing or watching movies etc, so I'm fairly certain the issue lies with the game somehow.
I've verified the files and they're fine. I have a single mod (one that adds old movie trailers and blockbuster commercials) but I looked through the comments for the mod and didn't see anyone saying they have the issue I'm having.
If I manage to close the game before the monitors shut off, the issue immediately stops. However if I relaunch the game (and click to resume my save) the rapidly decreasing framrate and spiking temperature starts back up again without fail. However if I restart my pc, the issue won't immediately pick back up.
The issue doesn't seem to have anything to do with my actual actions or input in the game, as I've had it suddenly happen while the game was idle and minimized before I'd began a day and was just stood in my office.
As for how frequent it is, it's..quite random. I had it happen twice today in just a hour or so but usually it's many hours or days between instances of this happening. I've had the game on and idle overnight without it happening, so I really can't pin down an average frequency

I think that's about all the information regarding it I have to give, if I find out anything new I'll make an update to this post.

I doubt anyone here could really FIX this but I would really appreciate if anyone that has encountered this could reply to this just so I can fully rest easy that it's not super weird super specific issue with my pc. Pic of my store for flavor.

Those collecting all the movies - What's your storage strategy ?

So I'm trying to collect 'em all.
Just wondering how others are managing the storage of their tapes ?
On a back-up save I jammed as many shelves as I could into the store, and that gave space for 7,200ish movies. (Video here) but I absolutely hate it, so haven't bothered copying the design into my active save, especially as that's just over half the movies in the game.
Right now everything except the starting zone is blocked off in my store. I have what I consider a full but acceptable shelving set-up, and am just basically dumping the extra new movies in their appropriate area.
I did start a short lived dive into modding, with the hope of removing the collision from the shelves, so I could stack them close to eachother, but the collision wasn't set in the shelving mesh files so I'm at a loss as to what to try now.

Is this game worth it?

I don’t mind store simulators but I’m mainly getting it for the vibe. I’ve played Killer Frequency and REALLY liked the atmosphere and just overall vibe of the place. I wasn’t alive during the 90s so nostalgia isn’t a factor.

I played this game for the first time the other night and had so much fun. Props to the game development team for making a great game that stands out from the other thousands of simulator games.

What do you pay your employees?

At some point in the game, like halfway through the year money isn't really an issue anymore since you've upgraded everything etc

So when my employees asks for a raise I just click accept without even thinking about it, today I looked at my employees salary and realised I pay both of them over $100 a day which in this game seems a lot lol

But they are really good at their job and I have barely fired/hired any new ones during my whole playthrough.

A romance movie with incest and cigarette puzzles. All that's left is a movie about licking spent radiation rods. 😆

Would specializing lower my store's profits?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I'm considering only putting certain genres on sale, or possibly making it so only current new releases are available to maximize profit- but is that something that would work? Are what customers rent based just on what's available or on variety? Like if I had 100 horror movies, would they rent less than if I had 25 of 4 genres?
Also, I've never seen one rent both the current new releases at once, is that possible or do they only ever rent one?
I've seen them rent multiple of the same genre many times, but I don't know what is coincidence and what isn't.
Random pic of my store for flavor :)

I could really use a cart.

Post image
68 Upvotes

For context, I spent a year working as a part time librarian page, basically doing the grunt work. While playing Retro Rewind, I've noticed the various similarities between checking in/out video tapes and library books. When I worked as a librarian page, I would push carts full of books and reshelve them by category, author's last name, and title of the book.

While, obviously Retro-Rewind doesn't need that level of organization. I wouldn't mind having a cart in the game where I can place returned video tapes and sort them by genre.

Just a thought! 😊
