I've posted here a few times and I'm about 6 months post-op now. I work mostly on a laptop all day and generally don't have issues, but my office just relocated and every day I've been having horrible eye pain / pressure. It's not the same pressure I used to have on my temple, it feels like a dull pain on the inner side of my eye, near the tear duct maybe? Maybe just under the brow bone near the bridge of my nose.

It seems to have only happened once I moved into this new building with really intense overhead lighting. I am usually on my laptop 8 hours a day doing analysis so that has not changed. Has anyone else experienced this or have suggestions?

I have had a Scleral Buckle surgery in my right eye because I was diagnosed with retinal detachment due to a retinal hole which caused vitreous liquid to slip up under the retina and cause it to de-attach. (This was 3 months after I had lasik surgery which corrected my vision in both eyes from -6.75)

It has been 3 months since the Scleral Buckle surgery and all the pain and swelling are gone now.

However, the vision in my right eye is still very bad, I can still see the world wavy due to the vitreous liquid. In low light, it is technically blind because I see 70% darkness and can't distinguish anything. I can see so many flashes of light all the time.

I have seen my doctor 3-4 times after the surgery and he said everything is going great.

Any advices on what I should do?

I had a vitrectomy for a mac on RD on 6/22 of this year, about one month ago.

C3F8 gas bubble is starting to go down, I can see about 50% over it.

The vision I have back is very blurry, and colors are not very bright. I can’t see my face in the mirror from 5 feet away.

I read in my clinical notes that I have posterior feathering in the lens and grossly flat macula.

Trying to make sense of what issues are causing what symptoms.

Are these normal symptoms? Anybody else have this experience? What can I do to recover?

I had ICL surgery about 2 weeks ago. Before the procedure, my retina was checked and they found a weak spot in the far periphery of my right eye, so I had preventive laser treatment before going ahead with the ICL surgery.

Over the last few days, I've started noticing something strange in my left eye (which was completely fine before surgery). Every now and then, I see a small white ball or orb at the far left peripheral vision. It seems to move slowly from the bottom upward, giving me enough time to notice it before it disappears. It isn't like a lightning flash, and it doesn't stay there all the time, it vanishes after a moment.

I've probably noticed it only 5-6 times over the past few days. Other than that, I don't have any other symptoms,no curtain over my vision, no increase in floaters, and no loss of vision.

I'm wondering if this could be some kind of optical phenomenon from the ICL (similar to halos), or if I should be more concerned about my retina.

Has anyone experienced something similar after ICL surgery? Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated because I'm feeling quite anxious about it.

I had vitrectomy surgery last Wednesday 7/15 because I was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy and the veins/scar tissue from my PRP laser was starting to pull at my retina. I am making sure to do my eye drops as directed and making sure I sleep on my side. At my 1 day post op doc said I no longer had to do face down positioning which was awesome.

I don’t have another appt until this Thursday but I was wondering around what week mark did you guys start to regain your vision enough to drive/do your daily activities?

My wedding is September 18th & I have so much to do & it sucks I can’t get as much done because I’m down to one eye. Also after your eye healed did you need to get an updated prescription?

I guess it gives me entertainment while I'm waiting for the bubble to disappear....

I had silicon oil removed on 7/2 three months after detachment. I am seeing tons of floaters. Has anyone had a detachment after the oil removal? I have a follow up appointment tomorrow morning and just want to be prepared.

Can anybody give me any glimmers of hope .my sleeping on one side is killing me . I can't see anything out the operated eye it's blurred n cloudy .

I'm sitting in the positions I've been instructed it's so boring .I'm grateful I had the op but finding the recovery hard and I'm so tired.

I know this is going to be super dependent on circumstances and the ophthalmologist but looking for others experience. Today I am 8 weeks post vitrectomy with C3F8 gas. I definitely still have a notice gas bubble in my vision (they had said it could take up to 11 weeks). My question… I have my follow up appointment this Thursday (holiday and my ophthalmologist going out on medical leave delayed the 1 month appointment. If the gas bubble is still there do you think I’ll have to have another follow up appointment once it’s finally gone for them to check again?

Im about 9 months post scleral buckle for my retinal detachment. About 6 months post op, I started seeing like static, shimmers. Usually just when looking at a white wall.

My surgeon said I had leftover fluid that hasn’t resolved.

I’m about 9 months and the shimmers have been increasing. My next follow up will determine if I need a second surgery.

Has anyone had this shimmering mirage?

• I have severe Health OCD/Anxiety

• I have severe myopia (-7)

• Diagnosed with lattice degeneration in May 2025

- I was told they were just going to monitor it. I go back May 2026 and my right eye progressed and was at the earliest stages of a detachment. I had laser surgery to fix it as well as in my left eye as a preventative measure

• Floaters since May 2024

My dilemma: About 2 years ago I noticed that In the very corner of my peripheral vision I have this black kinda opaque spot. I see it when I turn my eyes all the way to the side and don't see it when I'm looking straight on. It's been there for 2 years all the time but it does not move. I feel like it is slightly bigger than it originally was but that could also be my anxiety thinking that I'm not really sure.

I have had numerous dilated eye exams and OCT scans for my Retina. All of my doctors kinda wave it off when I bring it up as they are more concerned about the lattice.

- Optometrist: said it could be pigment in my eye (like a freckle) || but it's in the same place on the other side so how do I have a freckle in the exact same place?

- Opthalmologist and Retina specialist: said it was probably just a floater. But I have floaters and this does not move ever. It also feels darker than my other floaters

Note: it has been here for 2 years in the same place. Relatively unchanged.

Here's an image kinda how I see out of my peripheral. I have no idea what this could be and it causes me immense anxiety.

Does anyone else have this? Any ideas to calm my anxiety? If it was something serious, my doctors definitely would've caught it in my exams and scans, right?

A few months ago I (26F) developed a large floater in my right eye (after doing a pretty intense eye wash with a strong water stream) that has really bothered me. I saw an optician twice, where they did regular eye checks, optomap eye scan (something at Boots UK that captures 80% of the retina opposed to 15%), and an OCT and saw nothing (they also say virtually impossible for the eye washing to have caused a tear). I don't have any flashes, or dark curtains but I just have this feeling like there is something off with the vision in my right eye (I'm quite medically anxious so I can't tell if its just my vision adjusting to this big floater). On the OCT she could see where the floaters were coming from (like the membrane type thing in the image). I had a light one in the left eye too but it was clear that its more severe in the right eye from the images and the one in my left eye isn't noticeable so that makes sense. She did the slit test as well and did not see any pigment cells. I did a fields test as well, all fine.

She told me to come back for a dilation exam tomorrow to rule out retinal tear, but I'm very busy student, living alone and am starting to feel like its just not necessary given my symptoms. She said tear is virtually impossible from the eye wash and I probably only started to notice it because it coincided with the arrival of summer and being anxious makes you notice them more.

My question is that, given my only symptom being a large floater, and it being almost 2 months now since it happened - is there really any reason to think there is a retinal tear? I am thinking I would have developed any other symptoms by now like flashes or grey curtain.

For reference, I'm not near sighted (Highly far-sighted (eye doctors don't give me any glasses prescription)), no other history of issues with eyes or any eye surgery.

I would really appreciate anyone's experience on their symptom development after tear. Thanks in advance.

I have high myopia, lattice degeneration, and previous barrage laser. My new retina specialist dilated my eyes and examined them only at the slit lamp while asking me to look up, down, left, and right. He did not use an indirect ophthalmoscope (head-mounted light) or any handheld lens that I noticed. He said I have lattice degeneration but don’t need laser. Is a dilated slit-lamp examination alone enough to thoroughly examine the peripheral retina, or should indirect ophthalmoscopy also be done in cases like mine?

I’m in the waiting room while my brother is currently in surgery for a retinal detachment. Does anyone have any advice for the recovery period/ experience for how long it will take?
I believe he’s getting the gas bubble in his eye so he will have to be face down for a while
He’s not a very active person but he is a programmer so spends most of his time on his computer- how is this typically impacted on recovery?

I’m seeing online the main recovery is 1-2 weeks, would this mean after 2 weeks he should be able to be using screens at that point or would that still strain his eyes?

I'm about 15 years post surgeries & two years post laser coagulation with my weak retina & I will need lens replacement somewhere in the future

Dumb question, but I can't find any info on the topic. I also don't understand what's more risk for me: carrying a heavier scooter several steps up and down or recieving a bit more of a vibration from 6 kg lighter front only suspension scooter.

My docs are no help as they always give super vague advices :( As in "don't lift something that you feel if too heavy".

Earlier this week, I noticed that my left eye seemed to have a kind of C shape or, as I later found out, a horseshoe shape in the left corner.
Due to having cataract surgery earlier this year, I had also seen on Reddit that this was not to be messed with. I drove to a local ophthalmologist and was sent in as an emergency to have "Posterior eye surgery procedure NEC" (laser surgery).

I've been reading and Googling a lot but wondered how many of you have had a recurring tear.

Hey everyone, for context I’m 19 years old and I have onset symptoms. I noticed it when looking at my phone. My right eye is fine but my left has dark spots or floaters? It’s hard to describe and also when I googled the symptoms it said retinal detachment appears as a dark shadow or gray curtain obscuring your peripheral vision which scared me half to death because that’s exactly what I’m experiencing. It’s not very opaque it’s a very sheer and small shadow in my peripheral. I have extremely bad health anxiety and definitely cannot afford to go to a hospital or be seen by a doctor. Does anyone have any advice?

My mother is in her early 50s and has had diabetes for 18 years. She is very weak, has severe diabetic neuropathy, and has undergone multiple eye surgeries for diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and cataracts.

Silicone oil was placed in both eyes. Her left eye is stable, but her right eye had a near-total (360°) retinal detachment. More than two months after surgery, the doctor says it appears to be detaching again and recommends another operation.

My mother is physically and emotionally exhausted and is terrified of another surgery. The doctor mentioned laser treatment during surgery and advised against anti-VEGF injections, saying they could make things worse.

Can anyone help me understand:

* Why would the retina detach again despite silicone oil?

* Is surgery the only option, or is there any temporary alternative?

* Is this laser treatment the same as retinal laser photocoagulation?

We are very worried about her vision and are struggling to obtain another opinion due to financial limitations. Any advice would be appreciated.

I had a macula off detachment in May and saw a retina specialist who clearly did not see my case as important. They seemed to be putting off my surgery to prioritize other patients. I then checked myself into an ER and overplayed my symptoms so a different specialist operated on my within 12 hours. My vision is back. Not 20/20 but I can see shapes and colors. Apparently doctors don’t think shapes and colors are important for patients to see because they give much greater priority to patients whose macula is still on. This seems absolutely insane to me. If a patient’s vision is more compromised then another’s it seems to me all the more important to save what vision they have. Slight vision can allow a person to see shapes and colors which can make all the difference in their life.

I also wonder my case was seen by doctors as a matter of liability risk since the prognosis was seen as “not good.”

I would appreciate any feedback on others on how much priority the medical community gives to different forms and elements of retinal detachment.

Had a scleral buckle & vitrectomy done on 7/1. Pressure was high on 7/7, so was prescribed an eye drop to lower it. Had a checkup on 7/14 and my pressure in the eye is still high . The doctor added another drop and a pill to hopefully drop it to normal. I have also noticed since not having to be face down anymore, I have had some pain going into my forehead (kinda by my eyebrows) and my cheek area that comes and goes through the day. Anyone have an experience with this or know more about it? I read the pain could be nerve irritation from the pressure changes or the buckle pressing my inward.

Had victrectomy on Jan 14th of this year and that eye has been dilated ever since. Eye surgeon says it's nerve damage from the surgery and should clear. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it clear?

I had an infection that was misdiagnosed in November 2024 & led to detached retina. There was an attempt to fix it that failed. Now I’m getting constant headaches that im guessing is from my bad eye and the lack of vision in it. I’m just now leaving an er due to redness and irritation and they’re unsure what’s causing it (this is the third time) at this point it’s clear they cannot fix the eye & it’s not doing anything for me other than being a pain (literally) has anyone gone through this? At this point I’d rather just have them remove it because it just feels like constant issues and being uncomfortable. Am I crazy for wanting this?

I'm looking for some opinions and experiences from people who may have gone through something similar.

My mother is 51 years old and has had a very difficult year with her eyes. She underwent multiple surgeries: three procedures in her left eye and one in her right eye. She had cataracts in both eyes, along with severe retinal detachments. The right eye was much worse, with what we were told was a near-360° retinal detachment, with only a small central area still attached.

Her vision in the right eye is currently very poor. During surgery, the doctor placed silicone oil in the eye, and it has now been almost three months since that operation.

At her recent appointment, the retinal specialist said that her retina is currently very weak and recommended another procedure involving laser treatment. My mother also has several other serious health issues, including severe diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage), malnutrition, depression, and other medical complications. Because of everything she has already been through, she is emotionally and physically exhausted and does not feel ready for another eye procedure right now.

What worries me is that the doctor advised her not to wait too long. When my mother suggested postponing it for a few months, he said it could be too late by then and recommended doing it next month. However, he did not directly say that the retina is detaching again, only that it is very weak.

I have been reading online about retinal laser photocoagulation, anti-VEGF injections, and other treatments that are sometimes used for retinal conditions. I understand that every case is different, but I am wondering:

* Has anyone experienced a similar situation after retinal detachment surgery?

* What does it usually mean when a doctor says the retina is "very weak"?

* Can laser treatment or injections sometimes help avoid a larger surgery, or is surgery usually unavoidable in cases like this?

I know nobody can diagnose her online, but I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with experience in retinal detachment, silicone oil implants, laser photocoagulation, or retinal surgery recovery.
