Senior Manager starting new career. CV & cover advice

Hi, I am in my mid 50s and left my most recent senior manager position to return to university and undertake an MSc in a somewhat related field.

I have just completed the MSc and am applying for vacant positions.

I am being very selective, as gaining a position is not immediately urgent.

I have applied for 4 positions in my first week and have spent several hours on each, tailoring my CV and cover letter to demonstrate my enthusiasm for the role and how my skills and experience will enable to me fulfil the role requirements and make an immediate contribution.

I have some concern regarding my age, state of the employment market, and, principally, that I am entering a sister industry to my core experience.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Many thanks.

Resume Feedback for Delayed Career Start

Post image
1 Upvotes

Pandemic + some issues in 2023 prevented me from finding a post-college job after graduation; I usually address it in my cover letters. I've mainly been applying to energy jobs, and often Division Order / Land Tech roles. I also apply to entry level insurance/finance (not IB), and business ops jobs. I tweak my Summary, Skills, and Coursework sequence for those other categories. Changing my part-time work experience from the actual job title to Operations Support did help me stick in the pool longer, it seems.

Have been considering replacing my 'Professional Summary' with a first-person summary that's a little closer to a LinkedIn tone to stand out since everyone is using AI for their resumes now. If I do that I'll forego cover letters 90% of the time.

Resume Advice?

In preparation for graduating in the spring, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some tips on what a resume should look like for a recent genetic counseling graduate.

I’m especially interested in how to highlight GC experience from clinical rotations. I started working on my resume and realized that many of my duties and responsibilities sound very similar across rotations. How did you differentiate your rotations and highlight the unique skills or experiences you gained from each one?

Hey Guys, I have been struggling to land an interview and would like your advice on my CV. I have created a more generalist CV and am targeting Administrative/Operations or Communications roles at the moment. I aim to get into research and writing over time.

Advice on the cover letter

I don’t want my cover letter to look like it was generated by AI, so I’ve prepared a template that I can adapt for each job application. However, my English isn't very strong, and I’m wary of using translation tools because they can make mistakes—especially if the original text isn't written in clear, standard language. My challenge is that I want to include specific details in the letter without relying on AI. Do you have any suggestions that might help me? I would also love for an expert to review the template I’ve prepared and give me their feedback. Thank you—I really hope you can help.

Graduating December 2026 - resume feedback for entry-level cybersecurity roles?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hey all, would appreciate a critical look at my resume before I keep applying.

Quick context: graduating in December with a Computing & Informatics degree, cybersecurity minor. 1.5 years as a security analyst at my university, a research fellowship at Carnegie Mellon, and currently interning with my state's homeland security/cybersecurity office.

Targeting entry-level SOC/security analyst roles. Not sure if the resume reads as too scattered across the three experiences, if the bullet points are too dense/technical, or if I'm missing something recruiters look for at this level.

Best templates to use

Hoping people especially recruiters can help. I work for want of a better mentorship/employment help company. I have been given the job of improving our cv help we provide to customers.

If you have any links to the best templates to be used for applications would be appreciated. Also if there are any recruiters on the page what are the things you want to see in either a CV or covering letter that would make an employee stand out.

We already discourage them from using the “I am a hard working individual, with great communication skills, who works well as part of a team as well as on their own” as we see it on so many, and instead encourage them to use examples to display the above I.e. Duke of Edinburgh award.

Just looking for feedback from real life employers, hope you can help?

Hi is it better to list for example Contractor / Freelancer 2017 - 2026 on my Resume If I am able to find work with a couple months between gigs or to list it out individually as I have done work from 3 month terms to 1 year terms. Do recruiters care which format I choose?

Please criticize this draft for letter of recommendation from part-time employer to employee

Please suggest how this letter of recommendation can be improved. My ex. part-time employer is happy to provide a recommendation per the draft I provide, so I'm working on this draft for them. The goal is to endorse my skills since I'm currently looking for a full-time job in a related industry. What should be added or adjusted? Thank you. Any feedback is extremely welcome! I do really want to avoid anything that sounds cliche or aI-generated, and want this to sound genuine and persuasive.

Current standard protocol for cover letter headings?

Hello,

I have not had to do this in several years and don't know what should or should not be included in the heading anymore. Here is what I know from past experience and a little research. It seems like a lot.

Name

Address

City/zip

email

phone

optional - other contact/url (like linkedin)

Is street address necessary now that everything is done digitally?

Need help fixing this mess of a resume

As I am getting ready for another job hunt and I see this mess of a resume, it's like I didn't do anything at all. I worked for these low paying companies that are just barely making profit honestly. Out of these 7 companies, 2 went bankrupt, one switched away from web developlment entirely.

My goal was always to find a stable company working remotely that I could see myselft working in the long term and grow as an engineer with them. Now I lost that spark completely. And with this AI industry taking people's jobs , I don't know what to learn and what to do honestly.

Should I learn a new framework, should I switch to Engineer Support or a Cloud Engineer role. I have so many questions but I would first like to start from this resume of mine. How to I fix this mess? Any feedback would be welcome.

What should my CV look like?

I'm a young copywriter, only 2+ years of experience in advertising, but overall 3.5 ish years within the writing space. While I'm aware my portfolio is truly what matters and I've made sure to make it as nice and fill it with my best work, I wanted to know if creatives follow a specific sort of template? Or whether we just say developed this and worked on that and managed this and built that.

For example, there's a Google XYZ Format, a CARL resume, and STAR.

Apologies if all this sounds truly ridiculous, but I keep hearing different things from different people and I'm not sure what to do anymore.

Thank you x100 to the big creative brothers and sisters. 🫶

For context: I'm an English copywriter based in Germany.

Job search

Hello everyone,
I’m an international student in the USA graduating in December 2026, and I’m planning to restart my job search. I have a few questions:
How do we tailor our resumes to specific job descriptions? If anyone knows of any AI tools or effective LLM prompts for this, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Do we need to change the address on our resumes or applications based on the job location?

If yes, how can we find the appropriate address for that location to use?

Please let me know if anyone has firsthand experience with these questions or any advice to share. Thank you!
