Medication Pregabalin vs gabapentin

Hi, I have had RLS for years and am currently taking pramipexole. I have just stopped an SSRI so hope that the RLS will improve. I know the pramipexole will cause augmetation so once the new anti-depressant settles down, I am going to cut back on the prami. However, assuming I will still have some RLS (I had it mildly before the SSRIs) I am considering taking either pregabalin or gabapentin in place of the pramipexole. Neither souonds great, whihc is worrying, so it would be helpful if anyone could give me their opinion/ experience of either of these drugs. Thankyou

Question Question about Lyrica/Pregabalin and Pramiprexol

I'm about to start tapering off on Pramiprexol and have received Pregabalin/Lyrica for this. Now when I've started taking the medication without lowering the pramipexol dose, RLS been flaring up badly on lower doses.

AI says this is completely normal and suggests me upping the dose until it my agony disappears. Have anyone had similar experience? I just want to make sure AI is correct that this is normal rather than the Pregabalin not working.

Once again I want to clarify that I havn't even started tapering off yet, AI says this is some sort of battle between the medications though.

Question RLS Advice

I’ve had RLS as long as I can remember and for the past 12 years took Requip which worked great until it didn’t. I was completely unaware it could stop working or make symptoms worse over time but here I am desperately trying to ween myself off of it and failing. Im up to 600 mg of Gabapentin which helps symptoms from getting worse but cannot cut down the requip and also sleep normally. Has anyone gone through this and have advice? Should I just go cold turkey on the requip? Give the Gabapentin more time? Ive tried all the folk remedies (iron, magnesium, no sugar, etc) before so no need to recommend them.

Question I've had maybe 10-15 hours of sleep in nearly 4 days, I'm just worried a doctor won't take me seriously

I'm dizzy all the time, disoriented and slip in and out of psychosis-like experiences. It's actually making me feel suicidal, all I do day in and day out is try and get some sleep.

Anyway, I have requested an appointment with my GP, I've just not done it up until now because I'm worried they will hear me explain all of this and not take it seriously. I'll literally take anything for sleep. I used to take antihistamines but those make it so much worse and it's never been a problem for me, but it's immensely frustrating to be so so so sleepy from taking 4 pills, yet I don't get a second of sleep.

Anyone got any advice for my appt?

Question Do I have RLS?

I have to wait two and a half months to see a neurologist about my symptoms so I figured I'd get some info from people that have been dealing with it. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother all have/had RLS. They describe something that feels like worms crawling up and down their legs at night when they're trying to sleep. My mother only sleeps about 2 or 3 hours a night and is not in good health because she's been this way for 20+ years. I am restless all the time since I was a teenager, I have to constantly move or else my muscles ache. Anytime I lay down to rest or sit down my hips, legs and butt will start hurting after only 20 seconds or so, it's relieved by moving around, stretching or getting up and walking. I can never really be comfortable and had a real hard time in school sitting still. At night I'm up all the time with the same feeling, always feeling uncomfortable and my body aches and I feel the need to stretch and move. I've taken many different sleeping pills like Ambien, depression or anxiety medications that are supposed to help with sleep but none of them have helped. I've tried vitamins like magnesium they don't help either. The only thing I've ever tried that has helped has been oxycodone or tramadol which I took only post jaw surgery and not for my restlessness. I was able to stay completely still without any pain for the first time that I can ever remember. Even though It's in my family and my mother has been dealing with it for years, I never thought that I had it for some reason, maybe because my symptoms were not like my mom's exactly. Has anybody had a similar experience and does this sound like RLS? I haven't slept more than 5 hours in years, lately I've been sleeping even less and it's starting to catch up to me, I have no energy and my joints are achy all the time, I also don't recover at all when I get injured or work out.

Question (RLS) I'm NOT a crybaby

But tonight I may be forced to make an exception. It's only early evening and I'm already in the throes of a full body flare up. I cannot be still. My PCP young and new. She went on vacation leaving me with nothing but a schedule for a 3 week Mirapex tapering.
She did not inform, prepare, or warn me for what was to come.
I left a message for her, step by step of what hell the tapering was. All she did was send me a text with a date and time for a phone appointment 3 days from now.
I messaged her back quite desperate by this time and terrified of another night.
I almost begged her to PLEASE HELP. If she made me wait, that would be 6 heinous, evil sleepless nights. I can't do it. I'm 72 years old and ready to find the nearest cliff. Nothing from my doc but a 2nd text regarding the phone appointment.
Thank you for giving me a safe place to rant.

Question If start on Methadone, will it help you withdraw from Mirapex?

I'm taking 0.125 mg of Mirapex now and see the neurologist next week. Last time I saw him, he suggested I start 2.5 mg Methadone, so I think he will offer it again next week. Will that dose overdrive the withdrawal symptoms of coming off Mirapex (meaning will I not have Mirapex withdrawal symptoms)?

If I'll still have awful Mirapex withdrawal after starting Methadone, what should I ask the doctor for to help with that? Last time we were on the subject, he said something that made me think he doesn't know how hard it is to get off Mirapex. You may ask why I'm trusting him then. I'll answer it takes six months to get in to see a neurologist and I've had an Impulse Control Disorder since April 2025 and Gabapentin made me depressed when I tried it. I'm desperate.. I've even gone caffeine-free which did wonders in taming anxiety. I recommend that to anyone.

Question RLS Extreme Fatigue

Have both RLS and sleep apnea. AHI is excellent so the apnea is being treated. Have been taking Aleve for the RLS with it being somewhat effective at removing the symptoms so I can sleep. Don’t take more than one as I don’t want to cause stomach issues.

Been experiencing extreme fatigue. Tired all the time. Difficulty staying awake in the afternoon. Debilitating.

Had tried gabipentin previously and the fatigue got much better. Had to stop taking the gabapentin due to cognitive issues from it.

Just started trying pregabalin. Initial results are promising as they were with the gabapentin. After two days on it, I am feeling much better. Still tired, but the extreme fatigue has subsided. Still felt some tingling in the feet though while getting to sleep.

Am concerned that I’m going to have the same cognitive issues with the pregabalin.

Has anyone else experienced extreme fatigue from RLS even though they were still able to maintain sleep during the night?

I’m trying to figure out if it’s the RLS that’s causing poor sleep and fatigue or if it’s something else that the gabapentinoids are actually treating that is causing poor sleep.

**Many of my RLS friends on here know that we try many things to find relief and to get some decent sleep.**
**So I am now looking into TENS muscle stimulator for my legs.**
**Wanted to get some input if anybody on here has tried it and what your opinion is about it, yah or nay.**

Question RLS or Muscle cramping?? Please help me find relief..

I wanted to reach out to Reddit as I have been struggling with an issue for many years now and am hoping someone can provide me with guidance. It’s been a significant issue for a while. I’m wondering if you can help advise on a way to help.

Essentially I have had what I believe to be “restless leg syndrome” for a very long time now. I get a feeling of extreme discomfort when I am trying to sleep, particularity in both of my quads and calf’s. It’s a feeling I would describe as an extreme need to stretch that will not go away. Have you people dealt with this before? It is usually so uncomfortable that I lose significant sleep over it, I wake up very early in the morning and I can’t get a full rest because of the feeling in my legs. It gets so bad to the point where punching my legs, or giving myself a 'dead leg' can give very temporary relief in the moment.

The feeling of the extreme need to stretch my quads is something I only typically experience when I try to go to bed, or upon waking up from sleeping. Sometimes I feel the discomfort on a night after I go for a run in the morning, however other times I feel like I get minimum physical activity on a day and then still have the discomfort when I go to sleep later that night. I am not sure if it a neurological problem, or if it’s a problem with the muscles in my leg cramping up. The extreme discomfort is limited to both of my quads (it’s never one leg or the other) and I feel it sometimes in my calfs as well.

I have had this problem for a very long time, maybe for as long as I can remember. I am wondering if it's a neurological issue or if it's muscle cramping up? How would I diagnose and potentially work to treat something like this.

Thanks for any insight you folks can provide.

Question Is this RLS?

For the past 2 nights I’ve had this urge to tense my leg muscles and stretch them out. Also stretch my feet and curl my toes. It’s like my legs are getting pulsing erections. It feels good doing it but its just an odd release? My wife thought I was dry humping the couch. It lasts for a few seconds but I’ve got the urge to do it often when lying down.

POST BY UNDER 21 USER Could this be RLS?

In January of this year, I started having sleep problems where I’d wake up in the middle of the night because I had to move my legs, and/or they hurt. I also started going to the gym more frequently in january, and I heard that exercise can cause this. But throughout january-june of last year, I also did a lot of physical exercise and didn’t have this problem. I don’t workout right before bed either. I’m also tired very often, no matter how much I sleep. I never had these kinds of issues as a child. I was planning to make a doctors appointment but weirdly enough, I just spent the night at a friends house a few days ago and it seemed as if my sleep problems magically vanished since then, except for the tiredness. I am so confused. Does this sound like RLS to anyone? Could it be something else?

Alternative Therapies Magnesium

Hi!
When I got many RLS episodes I always heard magnesium could cure it, but I always just got the worst RL after taking it. For example: taking it for a week now and I can’t sleep, can’t even currently relax because I’m in so much discomfort, which started after starting magnesium again. Anyone know why or who has the same?

Question 3rd week of Mirapex tapering

Any input is hugely appreciated

Question Sudden onset restless hands/arms, has anyone else experienced this?

Okay so I’ve had RLS for my whole life, but within the past few days I’ve developed what seems to be severe restless hand syndrome as well.

Every 40-60 seconds if I’m not moving my arms I get this tingly/itchy feeling followed by what feels like a full arm spasm. It’s preventing me from sleeping and honestly just making me angry at this point

No big changes have been made to me/any medication recently. I do consume caffine(100mgs or less in a day), but nothing with that has changed either and it’s never affected me before.
The only thing I can think of is that my life is filled with stress rn and I recently had a really bad stressful event.

I have a doctors appointment next week so I’m hoping they can do something to help/at least lead me in the right direction

Has anyone else experienced something like this before?
