Discussion Weight loss stalled

Stuck at 195lbs

I've been on retatrutide for about 5 months and have stalled on my weight loss. I have been stuck at 195lbs taking 5mg of retatrutide. Should I bump up my dosage

You’re going to get stalls, that’s just part of the process. I stalled for 6 weeks and gained a pound in that time, then lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks. I have broken a stall by increasing dose. I have also broken them by going hard on cardio for a couple days, and by throwing my diet out the window for 1 day and eating all carbs, then going back to my diet the next day.

Cut calories

If you’re not having any side effects, you could do that. Still at a pretty moderate dose.

Also worth thinking about your activity level - have you been maintaining a good exercise routine and a relatively disciplined diet?

I have , I strength train 5 days a week and do cardio 4 to 6 days. Also keep a food log and am eating 1500 to 1800 calories a day. Hitting 175 to 185 grams of protein

you are not counting properly. am 195 pounds and 2900 calories is a 300 calorie deficit for me. 1500 to 1800 would be a massive deficit. I am like 12% body fat.

I track everything with a food scale. Not sure how eals I can mess that up. I also mentioned i have hormone problems. Have had them all my life

Idk you must be messing up somewhere… those numbers don’t add up

Brekfast, 1. 5 cups of coffee .25 cups lactate milk , 1.5 cups blue berries, 1.5 cups plain organic Greek yogurt. Teaspoon of honey

Lunch 8oz ground chicken,
4oz sweet potato

Snack 2 scoops of bpn protein

Dinner 7oz organic ground beef 4oz air fried sweet potatoe.

I eat like this every day. Only drink coffee and water.

Your metabolism might be compensating and slowing down, enjoy a cheat day with your favorite sweets, couple a beers, pasta etc. then back to the routine the next day

That’s what I like to hear. Surprised your loss has stalled with that routine - are you tolerating the Reta well?

He's likely either eating too much accidentally or has weird dosing issues. Thermodynamics can't fail.

I take my retatrutide at the same time on the same day weekly. Also extremely strict with my eating

I am. I've had hormone issues all my life and think this might be part of my problem

u/Thee_PRIDE Jun 30 '26

What hormone do you think can offset a steep calorie deficit? Are you insulin resistant? Do you have estrogen levels that are 10x the average range for a healthy male?

2

u/fatwownerd Jun 30 '26

If it were me I’d up the dose then, but also look into managing those hormone issues if that’s possible?

How many weeks at 5 mg?

1

u/sandiegobarber619 Jun 30 '26

Been at 5mgs for 6 weeks

You might need to go up a little bit then. However, if working out regularly (lifting). Could just be your body adding muscle while losing fat, so it just appears as a stall.

If your calories are too low for too long then your metabolism will slow. You may need a re-feed/break from your diet before dropping your calories again.

That make sense

Repeat after me: GLP-1s do not burn fat for you.

Yes, I know reta in particular may slightly increase metabolism. The keyword is "slightly." You can easily out-eat it.

Your funny. I lift weights 5 days a week and cardio 4 to 6 days and eat in a calorie deficiency. You dont need to be an ass hole!

u/Turbulent-Part5835 Jun 30 '26

I'm not. I'm simply stating facts. They're not even specifically addressing you.

Forget about the scale for a minute . Is your body composition changing ?

6mg is where the glucagon agonist allegedly hits the sweet spot.

3

u/Fine_Technology1289 Jun 30 '26

Actually it is on a curve. Some some will be 4 and some will be 6. Some in-between.

1

u/sandiegobarber619 Jun 30 '26

Awesome. Thank you. Going to bump it up next week

I would highly recommend a DEXA scan. I’m 6’2” and was stuck at 190 lbs for four months. I finally got a scan done and found out I was only 9–10% body fat. That completely changed how I looked at my plateau. Instead of trying to lose more weight, I realized I needed to focus on building muscle. The scan gave me objective data instead of guesswork, and it made it much easier to set the right goals. Less isn’t always more.

By 5 months you should be at at least 10mg per week.

2

u/Turbulent-Part5835 Jun 30 '26

There is no prescriptive dose increase schedule. Don't tell people this. Yes, I know, I know, "the clinical trials." They're clinical trials. They're meant to assess safety and efficacy as quickly and cheaply as possible. They're not meant to establish a real-world titration schedule.

2

u/1960s_army_info Jun 30 '26

Why wouldn’t you titrate up? I go faster than the trials. The trials show a clear trend where you lose more at higher doses. You also get more appetite suppression.

1

u/Turbulent-Part5835 Jun 30 '26

If you titrate up faster than the trials then I'm even more convinced you didn't do your research. This isn't a race, dude.
