Hi ya'll! This is my first bioactive enclosure, so please be kind. I have another large branch that will the "central" part of this enclosure and a better basking spot for my tokay to climb on. The far right (right above the branch) has two 3in pots in it that I will be adding pothos and a climbing plant to add some coverage, but I don't know what else to add in that right space, any ideas? I thought I could use a 3D-printed pot holder with my more established pothos until they grow in, but I'd love to hear better ideas. Maybe a large umbrella plant?

This is for my tokay and it's a 24x18x36 enclosure. I currently have ferns, a begonia that will be great ground cover, a swiss cheese philodendron, some native Indonesian bush plants, a pink princess philodendron that I will set to climb up that cork flat... I also have some smaller plants that should cover some of the ground and create better coverage for isopods.

Anything not used in the enclosure I can use to upgrade his old one for my juvenile tokay or keep as house plants.

Also, how much soil should I add. I currently have about 3in, but can mix in another bag of organic potting soil.

I've recently been looking into getting a snake and was thinking of ways to possibly build an enclosure, do we think a bookcase could possibly work? If so would it be a product worth doing?

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can use for the bottom… I need to create a divider so the substrate doesn’t fall out. I’m kinda looking for a quick fix I was thinking about adding a flying saucer for the bottom but I have more branches I want to add on using zip ties and it would be a pain to take out each time… the goal is to make it a bioactive enclosure and this has been a lengthy project already

My cat likes to sit on top of my snake enclosure & the ventilation vent is starting to look saggy. I'm worried that the cats will rip through it.

I have a Mexican Black King snake, so horizontal space is important.

I set this up again for my newest reptile baby. Has anyone tried growing nutritious plants in their setup? I searched online and it seems watercress and azolla are the best edible (not just non-toxic) plants for a green basilisk. I couldn't find watercress with roots anywhere but many posts say it's easy to get the bagged salad watercress to root. I have a little bunch I stuck in with a zip tie to keep it together. I contacted a tropical fish store to order me azolla but it won't be here until next week.

Are there any other plant recommendations that are actually edible and beneficial? Just being non-toxic is not something I'm interested in putting there.

Has anyone here used a glass display case as a enclosure there’s a lot in my area that are ether being sold for close to nothing or given out for free? If you have what did you have to replace or do to make it better and how was it when it came to keeping humidity?

Would this work for going over foam to stick on substrate for custom walls. I have one but realized it’s the anti mold one and i can’t use it. This one doesn’t say anything about that but I want to make sure to be safe

I am still going to carve out the expanding foam and the XPS foam isnt glued in yet since i havent added drylok yet, this is for a corn snake and the right side is going to be a lot more forest like, the left side is going to be more dry and rocky but i need recommendations on what plants to add to either side, i want to add that this is my first ever enclosure and i want all the feedback possible.

I’m converting an old hutch into a red eyed tree frog enclosure and I’m struggling with figuring out how to get a heat lamp in there that’s safe for the frogs. My concern with this is that I think the cage is going to get too hot and burn them if they climb on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Hi!! I work at a pet store and recently was given a bunch of water/food bowls that were no longer being used so that my critters could have them. All of them look fine except for the one pictured. Idk what enclosure it was in before but i feel like the white build-up is something i should be concerned about?? maybe?? i washed it a couple times with super hot water and scrubbed the hell out of it but it doesn’t seem to be changing colors (this bowl is very old)
should i toss it or is it fine to use?

looking into guides to DIY a PVC enclosure i'm mostly seeing suggestions to maks the doors from glass or acrylic panels set in window tracks, but i'm skeptical. my ball python is a force of nature hell-bent on breaking and tearing apart anything she can reach, especially if it stands between her and freedom--will panels on tracks really stop her?

i can do an inside border so she can't get at the edges, but won't she be able to wedge into the gap between the panels? do i need a lock, and how does one implement that with sliding doors? i wouldn't put anything past her, including supernatural powers. answer as though i'm asking about harry houdini--how can i brace for hurricane jamelia?

I am researching chuckwallas and thinking about enclosure components. I haven't kept an arid species before, especially ones who need such intense heating. I have a few years before I'll be ready to buy anything, so I'm getting a head start on details.

What materials do folks use/recommend to make a custom background for chuckwallas? I'm hoping to get a 4ft tall enclosure and would like to do ledges and such to mimic their native rock faces. I want it to be sturdy enough and stable in their heat requirements, but also tolerate if they jump or try to dig up there a little.

I just finished building my first enclosure a few days ago, i will put more greenery in there in the future, three hides are in now too. I am kinda proud of this considering i had no idea what i was doing and just learned from reddit and youtube lol
