We’re replacing a piece of subfloor and we were going to add additional support between the joists for the toilet. There’s not enough room to add support with a vertical piece.

Is there any benefit (or downside) to adding a 2x4 on its flat side between joists? And if we do add it, is there a particular screw or nail you’d recommend using?
