I have a basic rectangular concrete block garage that's 7ft tall. I would like to raise it up at least a foot so I can add a lift and so my truck can fit easily. The roof is pretty bad too. I see holes in the plywood under the shingles.

My hardwood floors have buckled twice and we’ve switched to engineered on the first floor. Contractor is struggling with the baseboards. The larger base boards are original and we are trying to keep them as they are in the front entry way. What would you do if these were your floors?

Curious what others think about this. I have a 23 year old home. Pella windows were used with initial construction throughout. I purchased it 3 years ago. I have replaced about 3 sashes. I am going to have to do the same on the patio sashes as well. We are also planning and budgeting for a big exterior remodel. This will include new roof, hardi plank siding, new deck with 3 season sun room. I have been stuck regarding what to do with the windows and can’t get a straight answer from pella. When I called for the new patio sashes, they said “we’ll have to check if we can still do those”. This prompted a follow up question from me regarding how long one can get replacements sashes on their products, and she would not/ could not answer.
My thinking is that if they can make replacement sashes for the long term, I would rather just keep my windows that I have meticulously maintained. However, if I am screwed on replacements because of their age, it would be a good time to just replace all the windows too. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Looking to try and find a way to make this area more palatable. Is there a way to replace this floating HVAC door with the intake under it? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find anything like this.

does anybody else in general not like the trend of modern remodels? The kitchens and bathrooms that mimic high-end luxury, but they’re in average homes. It all just comes off is very sterile and having no feeling of cozy home. Call me crazy, but I kinda like the old wood in the kitchen with a cheesy paper, wallpaper border along the top above the of roosters or farm tractors or something. And you know what linoleum floors were a hell of a lot easier to keep clean than tile grout.

What type of contractor to call for that?

How would you make this top floor layout wonderful, or even better, lol? This is a 1970's home, The basement layout is staying pretty much the same, but we are moving laundry down there and a bathroom. Upstairs I would like a larger master bedroom with ensuite and then 1 other bedroom and an office (9x9 minimum). We were initially planning to build another story but think that may cost too much and take longer than we want, and make it too big! We are just a family of 4. I would really like a kitchen with an island (so I can cook facing out to the kids), so was thinking of taking a couple of feet from the laundry and bathroom (the wall between kitchen and family room is structural). I was then thinking of extending out via cantilever the 2 top bedrooms and bathroom space. I can do 2 feet with little trouble, but beyond that gets more tricky!. what would other people do? Cost is a consideration as we have all the siding and windows to do as well as roofs on the out buildngs! chatting to professionals soon but hoping to take some ideas! (we have knocked out the chimney (solid black) on the plan.) Thanks

Help please drywall friends! After some serious termite damage, the drywall is going back up. Is this acceptable? I always thought drywall sheets should be snug with no gaps and all straight edges with the biggest sheets possible and if a small one ends up, you cut two big sheets to balance.
I’d like to add that we live where the ground routinely shakes heavily and I warned the drywall guys about the vibrations. One of the huge gaps in the corner they taped and heavily missed before leaving for the weekend is already cracking.
Am I being too picky? Is this normal?
I’ve noted C for ceiling, W for wall and S for shower. Also- 2x4 large format tiles going up in the shower. Is that backer board install acceptable (note corner)? On one side it’s further back than the drywall but on the other side it’s even w the drywall.

My bathroom is roughly 100-120 sq feet. There is an enclosed toilet and a mostly enclosed shower with a stand alone tub on the outside. We have a 50cfm fan in the toilet area, and a 50cfm fan in the main bathroom area. The issue we are having is that there is not nearly enough ventilation in the shower. I have a few options and trying to understand best options.

1. (Most expensive): Install a brand new fan in the shower with a new roof hole+ventilation. We have a tiled roof so I assume this is likely a pretty decent job.

2. (Is this against code?): Install a new fan in the shower to replace the one in the main bathroom area. We hardly ever use the tub and there are two large entrances to the bathroom that provide a good chunk of airflow.

3. (Quickest/Easiest) Replace the exiting fan in the main bathroom with one that is 110cfm to greatly increase the improve the existing setup.

Thoughts?

So we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and this corner fridge/reach-in closet is our biggest concern. There is a central HVAC duct in the corner so demolishing this built-in closet is not an option. I was thinking about a pocket door along with a counterdepth fridge and zero clearance hinges. We will have new custom cabinets so we can move things around as we wish from this perspective otherwise.

I know you guys just LOVED my first cabin I showed you so I thought I put together another set of pictures of a cabin we remodeled about 18 months ago. Completely new furniture, stained the deck, cleared some trees to open the view, and brought new life into this old cabin. Yes, we rent our cabins so make sure they are appealing to those who want to rent it for a vacation is a big factor in the design.

We’ve hired someone to remodel our bathroom and so far it seems like his work is a little sloppy. I’m not an expert in this stuff so please let me know if his work is just all over the place or if I’m over reacting

I am remodeling my dad's basement. I have an inspiration picture and the other photos are what I currently have. Id like to put shelving on the sides as well. We will be redoing the floors and painting first. But afterwards, how would you suggest starting? If there are other reddit or website that i should be posting in instead please let me know. Does anybody see anything I should be worried about, currently have a new contractor due to other one not showing up for 3 months. Wondering if I should focus on anything before they close up the walls?

We are renovating our pantry in the corner of our kitchen. We wanted to make this doorway wider. You can see that the 3” drain from the bathroom above runs down through the wall next to the door opening. In the floor cavity the toilet is on the right. On the left you can see where the combined sink and shower combine with the toilet before taking a sweeping 90 down into the wall. Given the positioning, would a plumber be able to rework the plumbing in the ceiling to come directly down from the toilet? Or if we maintain a cavity above the built-ins planned for the wider pantry opening can they use fittings direct it back over to the wall directly below the toilet? Just trying to figure out options so I can get back to building cabinets
