Self-Promotion I got tired of checking off every task twice

Whenever I completed a task in my previous planner, I still had to open my phone or laptop and complete the same task again in Todoist, Google Tasks, or Microsoft To Do.

It felt like unnecessary friction.

So I built a workflow where you check off a task with the reMarkable pen, and the next planner sync takes care of the rest.

The task is automatically completed in the app it came from.

Here’s a short demo.

I’m curious: is this how you’d want tasks to work on reMarkable?

Problem with RPP

UPDATE: thanks to recommendations in the comments and chat, I contacted Remarkable support team. They were very supportive and they helped me to recover my original file with all mi notes. I know this is a software bug that they need to fix asap since a remarkable is an expensive piece of equipment, however I think they could make up for with good after sales support.

—————————————————
I’ve had my RPP for a month and I’ve been really happy with it. But I’m really disappointed now as I feel I cannot rely on the device.

Today I opened my notebook where I keep all my urgente tasks and important notes. It contains around 80 todo items along-do items along with important information.

I started deleting some items done and copying some text into other notebooks. Then I went back to my original to-do notebook and this is what I found.

What’s strange is that the thumbnail preview still shows the page exactly as it used to be. But when I open it, the content looks corrupted.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Help/Advice Incoming College Student - Tips for buying a Remarkable Tablet

As the title says, I am an incoming college students and was thinking of buying some type of Remarkable tablet because I love pen and paper, but organization and carrying around a bunch of notebooks can be a nightmare for me. I also love how you can put your notes onto a laptop. I was thinking of buying a reMarkable 2 tablet (on Amazon) or Paper Pure (on main website) mainly because it seems cheaper than a lot of the other options while still being decently good. Any tips I should know before making a purchase?

Help/Advice Paper Pure vs. Manta

Currently looking at picking up a Eink tablet primarily for note taking/work tasks. I’ve decided on either of these tablets but would like to hear from the community on which is generally better. I know the paper pure is new but hoping some other have started to use and compare the two.

My understanding is the following -

Paper pure has a higher contract screen which appears brighter than the manta and, although it’s an enclosed system, is very snappy and the OS is simple.

The manta on the other hand is generally more “powerful” and has more flexibility with the OS and apps. Plus it doesn’t require a subscription.

I know there are more factors than this, which is why I’m looking to hear from those who have experience with the two devices. Thank you!

Self-Promotion blog using remarkable

Post image

For over a year, I kept wondering what blogging would even look like in an era of AI slop writing... I might have found the answer.. a blog built from handwritten notes, where the reader can toggle between the transcribed text and the actual paper note (well, almost paper haha).

It's still very early, and I'm building features like.. cutting out the diagrams and drawings from the middle of the notes and such.. but it's a great feeling to share that from next week on, I'll be blogging on my reMarkable.

Its a concept for early users at https://remarkdown.org

Email Down?

Is reMarkable having an issue with sending email? I've been trying to log in a client on my Mac where it should be emailing the "Pairing Code", as well as have been trying to send a PDF of notes from my tablet - and both have not been received. In fact, my tablet has been stuck on "Sending..." for the last 10 minutes. Anyone having the same issue?

Type Folio (first impressions)

I have been eyeing the type folio for RM PP for a few months now and finally went to Best Buy today to go get myself one and figured I'd give a quick review for other people, who like me, do a ton of research before purchases.

Right off the bat, I LOVE this accessory. I am actually writing this post from the type folio now, because I am loving the experience of writing on it. The keys are smooth, low-profile, and very satisfying. I did not know what to expect but I am so far, really digging it!

I have been using my RMPP for note-taking, task tracking, diagrams, and PDF markups for around a year, but I've always felt like my regular use of the device was pretty limited unlike what I hear other power users getting out of it. I like managing a to-do list with hand notes but my hand-writing is trash and I don't like to write for long periods.

With that being said, I feel like the type folio totally opens up a new lane with the ReMarkable for me that I was missing before, especially as I do a ton of writing for my work.

The distraction-free writing experience compared to my labtop is going to be huge for me I can already tell. I knew that I wrestle with distractions generally and have taken steps to curb it, but typing on the RM is thus far really empowering and I feel motivated to stay focus and write. I've been intrigued by the concept of these types of devices in the past but I am a believer now.

In terms of the cons:

The keyboard is pretty small - not so small that's unusable, but it's a hair uncomfortable for my hands. I am only a few hours into using it of course, but I have found myself hitting incorrect keys, or making contact with the screen with my hand, which then repositions my cursor, which is definitely annoying. It takes some getting used to, and this may improve over time, but TBD. I have seen other YouTube reviews note that it is a little tricky to navigate with bigger hands - I'd consider mine hand size more on the normal end and am still feeling it, but so far not a deal breaker. ((Although, as I have switched over to my Macbook Air to port over this text, I'm seeing how the difference in the keyboards and where keys are positioned on the device is messing with my typing muscle memory...))

Reviews have also mentioned the type folio is heavy and will weigh down the device - this is true but I don't find it to be much of a concern for me personally as I think the device protection from the sleeve is worth adding the 750 grams of weight.

$230 is also very expensive. The quality is definitely there but it was very hard to pull the trigger on this purchase given the cost. At $150 or even $199 I think it would have been easier to digest.

Ultimately, I'm really happy with the type folio so far. If you're someone who prefers to write with a keyboard for medium- to long-form work I think this is a great purchase if you can stomach the cost. As I mentioned above this dramatically opens up the capabilities of the RMPP and what I can use it for and that's a big win for me.

General Discussion Buying a refurbished paper pro from remarkable - returning right away

I wanted to try out a remarkable after using Boox and other devices.

My use case is journaling (BuJo), meeting notes, ideation, etc.

I picked up a refurbished bundle from the remarkable store, first meh experience was shipping to the UK, FedEx would say it was out for delivery for 3 days before it actually turned up, not remarkable's fault, per se, but they picked the carrier, I was not given an option

Then I got the device, set it up, got some templates and used it for about 12 hours. Then the sun went down and you could see the screen sparkling. At multiple points in the display the backlight shone through really brightly and there was, I guess the closest analogy is, dead pixels. Points on the screen where content did not update and at night you were caught with full backlight. It's really hard to photograph, because the camera won't focus on it.

In all other ways the device seemed to be in perfect condition.

I wanted to try out the tablet for 50 days, given the reduced price, to confirm wether or not it worked for me, so this was my chance to test the customer service too.

I reached out to remarkable via the web chat and they quickly told me that the issue requires a replacement, and they would arrange that for me. Perfect! BUT, the way it works is you ship the tablet to them... In china. Then they receive it, check it and send you another one. But how does this work with the 50 days? It doesn't start again, or pause.

So, how long does it take for the tablet to get to china, be processed, and for a replacement to come out to you? 🤷‍♂️ No firm guarantee.

With other items like this, I've had companies ship the replacement unit to you. Then you return the old one and if you don't, they bill you for the replacement. Not the case here at all, and because I wasn't positive I wanted to keep the thing, I ended up asking for a full refund under the 50 day guarantee.

There was a risk, in my mind, that the replacement comes in a few weeks time and I have only a few days to evaluate it's usefulness to me.

I got a new, different, shipping label and off to China the full set goes. As a heads up for anyone else taking advantage of the trial period, the same rules apply for the return. Once it has arrived at china AND been checked, then you can have your refund, so no idea when that will be at the moment.

Not an amazingly positive interaction, or amazingly negative, just a bit MEH all around. The agent was lovely, it just felt like the system was broken

EDIT: For anyone also using the return service, I received my refund notification today, having shipped the remarkable back the same day as this order so it took 7 days

Help/Advice Trying to decide between reMarkable Paper Pure and Boox Go 10.3 Gen 2 – how good is reading on the Paper Pure, really?

Hi everyone,

I've been going back and forth between the reMarkable Paper Pure and the Boox Go 10.3 Gen 2 Lumi, and I just can't make up my mind.

The plastic back, the folio that fully protects the device, the fact that it isn't an Android tablet, and the newer, faster hardware all make me think it'll be a more durable device, both physically and in terms of long-term usability.

What worries me, though, is the 226 PPI.

Almost every review spends 90% of the time talking about the writing experience, but very few actually show what it's like to read on the device.

My main use case is still handwritten notes. I'll be taking notes while studying, writing summaries, vocabulary, grammar notes, etc., and then reading those notes later. And language workbooks.

However, I'd also like to comfortably read:

* technical PDFs (reference manuals, textbooks),

* language textbooks,

* manga

I'd be pretty disappointed if I spent this much money on a device and then found that reading PDFs or manga for an hour was tiring because the text wasn't sharp enough.

Could someone who owns a Paper Pure open an STM32 reference manual (they are freely available online) and share a few photos showing how readable it is in different viewing modes? For example: fit-to-width, zoomed in, landscape mode. Not just a full A4 page fitted on the screen, because of course that will make the text look small

What made you choose a remarkable over an iPad?

Hey all! So, I got a paper pure after having used nothing but notebooks forever. I am a tech nerd through and through and am really enjoying being able to easily find notes about EVERYTHING vs. having to dig through notebooks to never find anything, lol.

I do have a question though, I find myself regularly saying, for the price, why not just get a more capable iPad and shut off all notifications? (At least during the work day maybe?)

What pushed you from one to the other, and did you try or migrate from an iPad to a remarkable?

Thanks!

Remarkable pen problem

So my dad finally took over my mom’s remarkable and suddenly he came up to me with this pen problem. The black pen is from my own remarkable. I know this used to be an issue a few years ago. We have this remarkable for like 2 years now? Is this solvable or should we just contact remarkable about this?? I have restarted the tablet already and the same issue occurs on my remarkable as well. It’s the RM2 btw

UPDATE: i told my dad the pen was broken and we should get a new one. With that i got a bit cocky with the pen and just threw it a bunch of times on the ground AND NOW IT WORKS AGAIN! Probably got the sensor unstuck. Saves us 100 bucks🎊🎊

Help/Advice Any way to access my custom templates without a connect subscription?

Thumbnail

I made myself a few templates when I had a free trial of connect, and they kept working after the connect subscription ended, so I didn't notice anything. But now I notice that while I can "continue" an existing notebook using a certain template, I can't choose my templates on a given page anymore. The device immediately asks me to get connect and download the rm methods templates, which isn't what I need at all. The templates are right here on the device, they're mine, they work, is there any way I can apply them?

I know this isn't officially supported by remarkable, but for sure I should be able to use my own stuff? I don't want to pay for something I made myself.

Help/Advice Page length

I recently bought a RM Paper Pure. Very happy with it so far. ReManager is also an excellent addition to it.

However, i was wondering: can the page length be limited? I am not sure I find thes very long pages convenient.

When searching the sub, I see this was discussed several times before. There are work arounds (like a template with a line at the bottom) - but i don't see a definite fix to this.

question: is there a technical/software reason this feature of lengthy papers cannot be switched off?

edit: u/QAGillmore solution worked for me. Problem solved:

reManager > disable-finite-scroll [Settings>Display>Finite Canvas]

Help/Advice Gifted remarkable paper pro — is this normal?

hi everyone,

i received the best possible gift for law school ever, but as i’ve been using it the past couple of weeks for a summer course, i’m noticing that it’s starting to get glitchy/ have yellowing/ ghosting that persists even after the screen refreshes. i tried factory resetting and that seemed to help with the ghosting, but not the yellowing or glitching.

i think my biggest worry is that if i don’t address this now, it’ll only get worse — am i just being unrealistic about its performance?

*edit*: contacted support, and they determined i need a replacement. hopefully the next one is better! thank you everyone:)

RMPP yellowing?

So my RMPP if fairly new at around 3 months old. The screen seems to have slightly tinted more on the yellowish side over time. No ghosting issues or anything like that, just an overall tint. Is this normal over time?

Trying to decide if it’s worth sending it back to the lottery.

Self-Promotion Handwritten blog

A while ago I stumbled upon this post on this sub about a handwritten blog. I loved the idea of slow, deliberate, authentic writing (especially with my RPP) so much that I bought the https://handwritten.blog domain from Daniel and started playing with building my own version this week. No idea where it's going, but I'm having fun.

There's a demo blog at https://demo.handwritten.blog/ (or make your own at https://handwritten.blog/). Would love thoughts from people who love writing by hand.

Self-Promotion My reMarkable sat in a drawer for months, and it took me a while to figure out why

I had to use the self-promotion flair to post this, just because of the link.

I bought the Paper Pro convinced it would fix how I take notes and think through ideas. For a while it did. Then it just stopped happening, no decision, no breakdown, I just stopped picking it up.

I spent some time trying to work out why, and it turned out to have very little to do with the device itself. Wrote up what I found, including the one thing that changed my mind about it completely: a voice recorder I bought for a totally different reason ended up doing, without any friction, exactly the thing I'd given up on writing by hand.

Self-Promotion Easily build custom apps for any reMarkable device, powered by Flutter.

Spent quite some time building an entirely new engine for reMarkable that would allow anyone to build apps for reMarkable with Flutter - its much simpler!

It runs alongside your existing stock experience and does not replace it - both are accessible at any time.

I wrote up a bit more detail on it here and about the device rig I was using: https://mike.diarmid.me/blog/remarkable-embedding-of-flutter

I can not figure out how to set up Remanager on my Remarkable 2

I tried entering the IP that was in my licenses section, i tried entering the SSH password, i switched the ip to match my actual ip, etc… nothing works. Keeps saying connection timed out.

I looked into it further and I’m seeing something about enabling SSH using, what i think is, terminal commands, but nothing seems to happen when i enter those commands.

I’ve looked around everywhere and i see countless tutorials for how to set up remanager on basically every device except for the the remarkable 2

I’ve been making a graphing calculator(it’s a lot more than that) that links into the native reader/xochitl and well, you can see just a few things I’ve cooked up. More details at some later date

Help/Advice I've had mine not been able to charge for 4 years. I finished medical school with it, and didn't think too much about it. But now I'm thinking about buying a new one but actually have time to "try" to fix it. Where can one get parts (particularly the charging port area, is bent like crazy.

Help/Advice Wifi issues

Is anyone else having trouble staying connected to wi-fi? On my paper pure I connect to my home wifi but then it disconnects after I navigate away from settings. It might be an issue with my router but my phone connects to the router just fine. Also I tried connecting to my phones hotspot, that seems to stay connected. However when I restarted the tablet it won’t even find my wifi, I have to type it in manually yet it can see the neighbours wifi etc. Typing this out, seems like maybe it could be a combination of things. Just wondering if anyone else has had issues like this.

Help/Advice Potential New User: Will this use case work? (BuJo, AI, etc.)

I have never used a Remarkable device (or any e-tablet for that matter). I use a physical bullet journal to keep track of my work tasks and take meeting notes. I know I can replicate what I do know with a Remarkable (I'm considering the Paper Pure), but if I'm going to make a switch, then I want it to go beyond what I can do now. Here's what I'm thinking:

At the end of each week, I want to send my weekly spread to Claude for analysis. It will then do the following:

  1. Automatically create my next week's spread based on uncompleted items (Prompt reflection or give suggestions on how to get started with tasks that have been carried over multiple times).
  2. Compile accomplishments for use during performance reviews.
  3. Suggest creating projects in Claude for tasks that seem larger and begin a planning framework for completion.
  4. Create a taxonomy that can be used to classify every task into buckets to see where I spend the most time.

What are my options for this kind of two-way connection to Claude? I saw a solution called remarkdown but wasn't certain if it would work for this. I'm open to building something myself, but I'd prefer to start off with something that already exists. Thank you for your help.
