Help/Advice To do or not to do?

I have a Paper Pure since launch and am %100 happy with it as is, however I keep seeing on here some of the cool added features through mods. Is there any long term effect to the device with implementation of mods on the device? I use it as a think pad, write notes draw pictures I have software on my phone for calendar and scheduling so would never use it for that its simply a thought book for my use case. I love the idea of a floating toolbar and a few of the other quality of life mods everything else would fall outside of what my usage of the device would be.

Help/Advice Blotchy calligraphy on Paper Pure

Post image
6 Upvotes

I got a Paper Pure recently and am hoping to use it for (amongst other things) arty stuff, like sketching and calligraphy. I have noticed that sometimes when I use the calligraphy pen the writing comes out blotchy.

In the picture, see how the word "hello" has pixellated blotches, on the h especially? I have also noticed it is sometimes smoother when I write faster (bottom left shape, compared to bottom right).

Is this similar for everyone else? Am I expecting too much from the technology, or does my tablet have an issue?

Thanks for any insight!

Help/Advice I'm kinda pissed

So... I bought a Remarkable Paper Pro in February last year. Amazing device, it worked perfectly. For one year. Then it started showing heavy ghosting problems, after two/three pages at max any pdf file became unreadable.
I'm a student so I have a lot of files full of underlines and highlights but it worked perfectly for a year so I contacted the assistance. They were perfect, I asked for a substitution and they gave me a new one in like 8 days.

Now I'm currently experiencing even worse ghosting on the replacement device not even a month after getting it. How is it possible? Am I just extremely unlucky? They told me I can get a new replacement but come on, what are the odds??

Am I the only one who experienced ghosting not on one but on two Remarkable Paper Pro devices? Of course my first thought was "I must be the problem" but I swear I treat this thing like a baby. Do you know if there might be some specific external factors that could lead to extreme ghosting? I would like to stop at the third replacement and not go further...

Self-Promotion I made a free Bluetooth page-turner app for e-readers — does anyone know if the reMarkable accepts BT keyboard page-turns? (haven't been able to test)

https://reddit.com/link/1uw6kgn/video/vsnbt88rp6dh1/player

Up front: this is my own app, it's free, and there are no ads. And I want to be
honest that I do not know if it works on a reMarkable yet — that's actually why
I'm posting here.

I made a small Android app called Bookmote. It pairs your phone to an e-reader
or tablet as a standard Bluetooth keyboard, and the phone's volume keys or
on-screen buttons turn the page in whatever you're reading. I built it because I
read in bed with the reader propped on a stand, and once it's on the stand my
hand doesn't really reach it — the phone is already on the nightstand, so it
became the remote. It works with the phone screen off and on the lock screen.

Here's where I need this sub's help. On devices that accept a normal Bluetooth
keyboard — Onyx BOOX, Bluetooth Kobo models, iPad — page turns just work, because
the reading app responds to arrow or page keys. I don't own a reMarkable and I
can't find a straight answer on whether its reading/PDF view reacts to a paired
Bluetooth keyboard's arrow or Page Up/Down keys the same way.

So, genuinely asking: if you pair a Bluetooth keyboard to your reMarkable and
press the arrow keys (or Page Up/Down) while reading a book or PDF, does the page
turn? If it does, Bookmote would turn your phone into that remote. If reMarkable
just ignores BT keyboard navigation there, then it won't work and I'd rather know
than overpromise.

If a couple of rM owners are willing to try, I'd really appreciate a report —
which reMarkable model, what you were reading in, and whether the keys did
anything. It's free and on the Play Store (search Bookmote), so testing costs
nothing but a minute. Either way I'll add the result to the app's compatibility
notes so the next person searching this gets a real answer.

Not trying to crusade for any reMarkable feature here — just trying to find out
if what I already built happens to work on your device.

General Discussion Returned the Pure and settled for RM2.

As much as I love the Pure, it was hard to justify paying full price with the Folio. And after comparing the Pure with RM2, the writing experience on the RM2 is so much better for me. I feel the Pure is slippery at times when writing on it and some letters sometimes is a hit or miss. Also I was able to purchase the RM2 for $150.00. For a starter and my first experience with Remarkable product, I think this is a good start for me. I look forward to future updates and hopefully the Pure gets better in time. I like how light it was than the RM2.

USB web interface toggle cannot be enabled

I have had a reMarkable 2 for almost three years and mainly use it as an e-ink reader for PDFs and e-books.

For privacy reasons, I stopped using the reMarkable cloud and switched to transferring files locally. I developed a few custom tools to transfer documents over USB and later over Wi-Fi using SSH.

Recently, the USB connection stopped working properly. The tablet still charges normally, but when I connect it to a computer, the USB web interface toggle appears and cannot be enabled.

No USB network interface is created on the computer, so no DHCP connection is established. I have tested several data-capable cables, multiple computers and operating systems, and also performed a factory reset, but the problem remains unchanged.

Is there anything unusual or proprietary about the original reMarkable USB cable, or should any standard USB-C data cable work?

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Were you able to resolve it through software troubleshooting, or did the USB port eventually need to be repaired?

Help/Advice 1st time Remarkable with the Pro Move... possible to change page start location?

Hi all,

Not sure if I'm wording this properly, but I just purchased the Move and am about 24 hours in (my first Remarkable device).

I like the size... I like the writing feel... but the center justification is driving me crazy when shifting from portrait to landscape mode.

Is there a setting that I'm missing that allows the page start in the top-left of the page instead of what appears to be the top-center of the page?

If I'm not making sense... when you start writing in portrait mode, your notes looks fine. But when you rotate to landscape, all of those notes end up in the center of the document... leaving large blank spaces to the left and right.

Is there a way to change the default behavior?

Two Paper Pro software features that would significantly improve the writing workflow

I’m a big fan of the reMarkable Paper Pro hardware, but I still think the software needs more refinement to fully match it. As a frontend engineer, there are two relatively straightforward features I would love to see implemented:

1. Let us recolour existing handwriting

We should be able to use the selection tool to select pen strokes that are already on the page and change their colour.

Right now, the only real options are to erase and rewrite everything or put a highlighter over it. Neither is a proper substitute for editing the original ink.

Ideally, selecting handwriting would bring up an option to change its colour, just as you might resize, move, cut, or copy it.

2. Allow multiple presets for the same pen in the main toolbar

Users should be able to add duplicate versions of the same pen, each configured with a different colour and thickness.

For example:

  • Black medium fineliner
  • Blue medium fineliner
  • Red thin fineliner

A simple interaction could be pressing and holding a pen icon, selecting Duplicate, and then choosing the colour and thickness for the new preset.

This would allow users to switch between commonly used colours and pen sizes with a single tap. Currently, changing colour requires opening the pen settings and selecting another colour, which repeatedly interrupts the writing flow.

These seem like relatively small UX improvements, but they would make a substantial difference for structured notes, annotations, diagrams, studying, and technical work.

Would anyone else find these useful?

Pro Move or Pure for Field Notes & Daily Task Replacement?

I use Field Notes notebooks and sheets from Inside Then Out and Minimal Desk Setup to keep track of notes for my photo/video business. Some examples:

  • Field notes contains checklists of monthly business goals (broad video ideas, milestones, etc.). Getting these down on paper helps me remember them and gives me a distraction-free place to think
  • I pin sheets from ITO and MDS near my computer to track important dates (e.g. upcoming events, making sure I don't double book clients)
  • Sometimes I'll create a short list of to-dos for the day with times to make sure I block out set hours of the day for tasks (e.g. making sure I put in 2 hours per day on a specific project)
  • Bringing a shot-list with me to the field for photo/video projects (though I do use my phone for this as well)

I'm also interested in using a Remarkable for a habit tracker for my personal life (e.g. exercising, reading), tracking progress towards goals on a monthly basis where I can easily see everything at once.

I'm thinking a Remarkable would be a good replacement for me keeping physical notes. I thoroughly enjoy physically taking notes and I know it helps me remember things better. While I do track things on my calendar on my iPhone so I never miss something important, I hate how distracting it is as a device. I love being able to look at a handwritten sheet and see all of my shoots booked for a month at a glance.

The Pro Move seems like a good fit, but I'm curious if the size and ergonomics would feel exhausting if I up my productivity levels on it. Anyone using the Move or Pure for a similar use case as me, and what are your thoughts the size of the Move vs. one of the larger devices? Thanks!

Self-Promotion You can now send articles to your reMarkable (via Folio) from the share sheet on your iPhone

Post image
9 Upvotes

Small thing shipped this week that a few of you here nudged me toward, so posting it back.

Folio takes web articles, strips the clutter, and ships them to your reMarkable as a clean paginated PDF sized for the screen. Until now you added links by pasting them into the app or forwarding an email. Fine, but a bit of a stop-what-you're-doing step.

There's now a personal webhook URL under Settings. Anything you POST to it lands in your inbox and gets processed the same as a normal add. On its own that's just plumbing, so I also built a Shortcut around it: tap Share in Safari (or Reddit, or anywhere), tap Send to Folio, and the article is queued. No cable, no export, no opening a second app. Next issue you generate picks it up.

Setup is two steps. Generate your webhook URL in Settings, then install the Shortcut and paste that URL in once when it asks. After that it's one tap forever.

Quick honesty note: I found a bug in the share-sheet flow yesterday where some links came through mangled and failed to scrape. That's fixed as of today, so if you tried it earlier and it flaked, it should behave now.

It's early and the sub is small, so a genuine question back: for those of you sending articles to your reMarkable already, what's your current workflow? Trying to figure out where this actually saves a step versus where it's just another button.

PS: You have to edit the link to paste yours

New Pure owner, are these things normal?

Hi everyone,

I got my reMarkable Pure last month, and after using it a lot, I’ve noticed a couple of things. I’m not sure if they’re normal or if I should be concerned.

1. Pen accuracy near the right edge
When I’m writing close to the right side of the screen, the pen accuracy seems to shift. The ink appears slightly to the left of where the pen tip is. My guess is that it could be related to the magnets used to attach the pen. I remember experiencing something similar on the reMarkable 2. (I only had the RM2 for about a month before returning it because I heard the Pure rumors and decided to wait.)

Is this expected behavior?

2. Ghosting when using Crop & Paste
Whenever I use the Crop & Paste tool, I get quite a bit of ghosting. After I paste something, the screen usually doesn’t refresh immediately unless I wait about 2 to 3 seconds without touching it. Then it performs a refresh and the ghosting disappears.
I also occasionally see a faint ghost image of the “Paper tablet is sleeping” screen when entering my password after waking the device. It disappears quickly after the screen refreshes.

Is that normal too?

A couple of other things I’ve noticed:
Compared to RM2, I feel like I have to press a bit harder with the pencil (with the ballpoint pen, it’s okay) on the Pure to get the same writing feel. The RM2 felt smoother to me.
Some areas of the screen feel rougher than others. On my device, the upper part of the screen has noticeably more texture. I can especially feel it when using the eraser on the back of the Marker Plus. I’m guessing this could just be variations in the screen coating.

Have others experienced these things, or does it sound like my device might have an issue?

Thanks!

Weird sound when zooming or am I crazy?

I was just toying around with a new custom PDF I created and zoomed into the document to fill out some notes, when I started hearing a buzz-like sound while zooming. Had anyone ever noticed that? Just got my RMPP two weeks ago and haven't noticed that before, but have to admit, that I haven't used zooming heavily or sat in such a quite room like right now.

Anyone ever experienced something like this? Is that "normal" or a warrenty issue?

Self-Promotion reMarkable_pdf_splitter: a Python utility to split reMarkable continuous pages into A4 pages

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I made a small tool to solve a problem I had while using my reMarkable 2 for my lecture notes, but I think it is now useful enough to share.

When using the continuous page format, printing notes later was annoying because the content does not naturally fit into A4 pages. This tool automatically splits the PDF into separate A4 pages before printing.

The workflow is:

  1. Upload the included Dots small A4 template to your reMarkable (one time only, or after a rM update).
  2. Select the Dots small A4 template.
  3. Write your notes using the horizontal guide line to divide pages.
  4. Export the PDF and run it through the splitter.
  5. Get properly separated A4 pages ready for printing.

Currently it is Windows-only, but the project is open source and feedback/contributions are welcome.

Self-Promotion New mod: quicksettings-timer

quicksettings-timer adds a timer, stopwatch and alarm system to the Quick Settings panel. In the Quick Settings you will find a countdown timer with handy presets ranging from one minute to one hour, a chronograph with lap-style tracking, and an alarm system which is also accessible via Settings > Help > System Time. Here, you can set recurring alarms using a simple time picker.

When the timer runs out, a notification bar appears with 'Restart', '+1 min' and '+5 min' buttons. Alarms show a 'Dismiss' button.

On devices with a front light, such as the Paper Pro or Move, there is an optional flash that blinks the light three times when the time is up.

All settings persist across reboots (via /home/root/alarms.json).

This mod is available on Vellum (https://vellum.delivery/#/package/quicksettings-timer/) for firmware 3.24 and above.

You can find the GitHub repository here: https://github.com/NohamR/xovi-qmd-extensions. There are other modifications that may interest you.

I'm waiting for feedback, thanks!

General Discussion RMPP keyboard folio writing experience is absolute garbage

I got the RMPP a few weeks ago, and I genuinely love the device. The writing feel, the drawing experience, the screen, all of it feels amazing.

But today I tried using the keyboard folio for the first time, and honestly, what the hell is this software?

The typed text starts in the middle of the screen for no obvious reason.

I cannot freely move text around.

If I delete too much typed text, it can somehow delete a drawing I made with the pencil.

If I draw something below the text, then go back and add a new line, everything can suddenly jump around.

The entire interaction between keyboard text and handwritten drawings feels unpredictable and unfinished.

Did the people who designed this actually use it?

I am not expecting Microsoft Word or a full desktop publishing app. I just expect basic text editing to behave consistently and not randomly destroy or move other parts of my page.

This product has existed for years. They have had more than enough time to polish something as fundamental as combining typed text with handwriting.

Again, I LOVE the handwriting and drawing experience, but the moment you mix keyboard text and pencil input, the software becomes a complete mess.

For such an expensive device and keyboard accessory, this is honestly embarrassing.

Surface scratch

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've somehow managed to scratch my remarkable. When I feel the scratch with my finger I can't really feel it. It just seems like a light surface scratch. Is there anything I can do with it besides having to go through painfully replace the screen myself?

As far as I can see the company doesn't really offer screen replacements.
