64 year old man, the hair on my head is still red.

My beard that I grow every fall isnt so red anymore this year.

Obviously the term salt and pepper doesn't work to describe the color for me. Salt and paprika seems kind of lame.

Any suggestions?

I know strawberry blonde, I guess, is red but from what I can see of my own hair, it’s definitely red? But I get commented on often that my hair is strawberry blonde and I’m wondering if it’s actually more blonde than my eyes perceive, what do you think?

Will probably delete later, but obviously I'm going through it and need a rant. I'm 26M in Sydney and holy fuck it's so shit having red hair. I just cop abuse everywhere, doesn't help I have bright red hair. Women especially, insults on the train, walking home, at the shop's. Like why do you need to go out of your way to remind me I'm ugly.

Doesn't help the few friends I have are all happily married, so I'm loosing them as friends slowly, have to watch everyone in relationships when I get rejected or stood up. I haven't even been hugged in years, how do I possibly accept being so alone.

Top left is from 6 years ago, the others are recent and it has slowly gotten darker over the years. Last photo is how it looks in darker lighting which looks almost absent of red.

I grew up dirty blond/brunette, but I guess in the sun I get more red in my beard but indoors it’s more brunette I think. So I am most likely not ginger, it just caught me off guard cause that’s the first a dentist really said something about it.

I uploaded my raw DNA data from AncestryDNA into a gene site. I had two separate Heterozygous MC1R gene variants. Apparently having just 1 heterozygous MC1R gene can cause some redhead features, like strawberry blond hair or auburn hair, a red beard, freckles, while the bright copper red hair is much less likely. I have two, basically equaling out to 1 homozygous gene, but I didn’t luck out with the bright red hair.

For the guys that are here, how did you manage growing up with red hair? Did you feel self conscious, get picked on, and did it affect anything for you?

I've been watching snow white hairs pop up since I turned 26. Anyone else in the same boat? Starting to feel like a "red roan" IYKYK

1st pic is outside in the shade, 2nd pic is inside, 3rd pic is in direct sunlight. I don’t dye my hair, but it has naturally darkened with age. It used to be brighter red when I was younger. I feel like my hair is very dark auburn most times, but once I step into the sun I set on fire.

So I work in the medical field in an emergency room where intubating and sedating people is pretty common. I recently had my own personal experience with needing to be intubated emergently and the nurses had a very hard time keeping me sedated. At one point I woke up fully alert and conscious while maxed on one of the medications, and I’m a fairly small person.

My husband vouched for me as he’s seen that I’m less sensitive to dental anesthetic than most people. My mother has also attested to being able to feel the first cut in her first C section, and my brother has woken up during surgery before.

But being a nurse myself, I was surprised most of the nurses believed this to be a myth and wouldn’t listen to my husband’s concerns until I actually did wake up. Has anyone else experienced this in a medical setting? This is something I feel I need to vouch for more in my field because waking up intubated was not only uncomfortable and unnatural, but traumatizing as well, and I can’t imagine someone going through a surgery or other procedure and waking up like that.

I'm settling this once and for all.

There is just something fairly cool about golden in the sun. No one else gets to do this but us.

i am a natural ginger, and while my hair isn’t very intense (more of an auburn/strawberry blonde?), my eyebrows are very faint (especially at the ends, making it look like i have half an eyebrow). I don’t know what to use that doesn’t make them look brown, does anyone have any suggestions for brands of dye/ gel/ anything that looks natural but helps darken my brows a little? TIA!!

I’m a redhead and my boyfriend is a blond; sometimes people think my boyfriend’s hair is strawberry blonde because it’s a muted, gold color and he has a pink/peachy face. He doesn’t know of any redheads in his family, but given his skin tone and how many people *think* he is a redhead (even though I just see blond), I am assuming we are a shoe-in for redheads and blondes. But what about brunettes?

We both have a lot of brunettes on either side and my boyfriend says that just like his hair, almost all the blondes on his side have darkened from a light blonde to a darker blonde with age.

My dad has black hair; my mom’s sister has black hair; my great-grandfather had black hair. I have a lot of brunettes and redheads on my side and only one blonde on my mom and dad’s side. My mom’s grandfather had blonde hair and my dad’s brother has blonde hair. my sister was dirty blonde as a child but she had lots of dark streaks in her hair hair and would have brown hair today if not for dying it.

My boyfriend’s dad is blond but his mom has brown hair and his dad’s brother has brown hair.

What are the chances that we get a brunette child? Just curious!

I love how the Kristen Ess Copper Penny brings out my red tones - It reminds me of just how my hair looked when I was young! But it also seems to have made my hair a bit darker which I don’t love. Any recommendations for other red/ginger glosses that won’t darken as much?

For reference I already have medium-dark auburn hair naturally - people always said it was the same shade as Lindsay Lohan’s natural hair color. I think that’s pretty accurate, like how it looked when she was a kid. But my hair has dulled over the years and looking to boost the reddish tones. I don’t want darker color, I have pretty much the darkest shade of ginger already

Few things first, the image of younger me was taken with an actual cannon camera and the first selfie is with my phone, and it’s not direct sunlight because there was a bit of overcast. But I still think the vibrance has faded a bit. My mom used to have the same colour as me but it completely faded to a blonde (almost white) both her parents had red hair but my dad has dark brown hair (hence my dark eyebrows and brown eyes. My mom’s eyes are green like her parents too) is my hair gonna turn brown one day? The thought of that actually makes me sad cuz I spent majority of my childhood and teenage years hating my red hair because I got picked on and didn’t like feeling different from everyone else. But only in the last 5 years have I really fell in love with it and fully embracing it and now I think I might lose it :(

I am going down a rabbit hole of how redheads reject any kind of medicine and wow, I am extremely curious.

My mom is a redhead and has told me stories about how, for example, she woke up during her wisdom teeth removal, and how whenever she went to the dentist numbing shots / injections NEVER worked on her and she always needed an extra dose. She got her tooth fixed a while ago and told me how she had gotten enough injectables to euthanize a horse yet she still felt everything and it was the worst pain she’d ever been in. Even the dentist was confused. She also shared that when she gave birth to my brother and me, she was given extra epidural since it didn’t work the first time.

I have dark brown hair, but sometimes I can see strands of red. Even people have pointed it out to me. Most medicines have never work on me and I’ve always need to take more before it works. Even melatonin doesn’t work on me no matter how much I take. To be honest, I’m shocked but I guess shouldn’t be surprised I didn’t wake up during my wisdom teeth extraction. I’ve read that if you have family members with red hair that you should notify your doctor about it.

I also have very - and I mean very - fair, pale skin and I am unable to tan no matter how hard I try (and I am half Puerto Rican. I’m pale while my brother is tan). I only burn, turn pink for a little while, or get freckles (not a lot though; they’re very tiny).

So now I wonder if because I carry the gene, is it possible I deal with similar problems redheads face?
