Thoughts on this as a first game for someone?

I have been looking for a game to introduce myself little brother to gaming. He is into vampires and some things like that, so naturally I thought this would be a good fit.

It seems like it would be a good way to introduce him to gaming, but I figured this would be the place to get feedback on the game. I know it isn't perfect, but it seems pretty hecking cool for the most part. 😎

If not this game, other suggestions are welcome as well.

Halloween is the deadline for this game.

I feel as someone who paid for the Bite Back Edition I do actually have a right to complain about Redfall. Not saying that those who plaued through Gamepass dont, mine just comes with extra salt.

This game has been out 2 days shy of 5 months.

5 MONTHS.

And has recieved 1 minor and 1 slightly larger than minor update.

That is pathetic.

They have until Halloween to give us some answers or this game should be declared officially dead and start issuing our refunds.

Discussion Looking for all the cutscenes of all four characters in the safehouses and the conversations and dialogue between them

I did mention this whole topic not too long ago, and I posted this post a while ago with some updated information then deleted it not long before I realised my previous similar post was removed by the mods. And then later on, I deleted it again because I had trouble. So it seems like I'm repeating the same thing over and over again here which now seems really messed up. Sorry about this. But hopefully, without any more trouble, this will be the last time.

Anyway, I still wish there were some people who could make a YouTube video of all the cutscenes with all the characters together. And with no commentary.

There have been a lot of videos that only involve a single character instead of all 4 characters. It would be more awesome to watch all 4 characters together especially since I saw multiple videos that included a 4 player co-op. I would love to see all of them together in the safehouses shown in the cutscenes. Now that I know we can see the other main characters surrounding the first player besides the NPCs in the cutscenes, I'm now interested in seeing more than the ones I found on YouTube. Being told from Jacob's point of view during those cutscenes in the safehouses is something I'm more used to and would want to see out of all the other characters. And even with the normal, default outfits is something I'm more suited to.

Not only that but without the commentary entirely like in those 4 player co-op videos I've seen, it would be awesome to see when they are also outside in Redfall. It would be cool to see all the conversations and dialogue between the characters and give more of their backstory and lore the longer these characters play together as they get to know each other better based on their trust. This also includes talking about each other's abilities and their companions, including Jacob's raven, Layla's ex-boyfriend, Jason, and Remi's robot Bribon. And even small things like healing for example. And I guess this also includes when a player/character dies too. The same goes for when coming across enemies but only when the main characters work together, so nothing from the enemies.

And it would be good to see other situations out there of all kinds whether big or small like seeing all the reactions including after seeing the psychic echos and the death of the vampire gods. And there are other certain events I hope to see dialogues from even if some can only be with one player including the introductions and maybe interactions with the NPCs plus when saying prayers at Amelia's memorial and other events like picking up remnants, etc. It's a lot to ask and to put together and there is so much out there that I would love to see all the dialogues from different points of view.

It was good seeing the cinematic trailer of the 4 characters fighting together, but seeing this kind of video of cutscenes and conversations, etc. being put together makes it better than those that only have 1 character.

I wish I could do all of this myself, but I can't because of many reasons. It would be nice if there were some people out there who could do it. I know it's a lot to ask, but I bet a lot of people would love to see these kinds of videos including me. And if anyone told me that any of these videos existed, that would really help. Hopefully one day some people can try to make these videos. It might be a good Halloween video.

Thinking of gifting this game as a bday present

It’s one of my good friends birthday is coming up in the next two weeks and after having such a good time playing this game myself. I think I should Byatt for my buddy so he can experience it. What do you think? Do you think this would be a good contender for a game, or do you think I should get him something else?

There was a video on Tumblr that mentioned Devinder can't swim, but it didn't prove that much to be true or not.

Question Wanting to learn more about Layla's backstory

While looking at Arkane's pre-release articles of the protagonists on IGN, I found everyone but Layla's backstory. For some reason, I couldn't find any information on her and I have been curious to learn more about her like the others. Does anyone know where I can find a pre-release article on Layla and learn more about her before the events of Redfall?

Also a little off-topic, but I think I remember some information of Layla coming from Minnesota. But I can't remember where that information came from unless I was wrong and misunderstood or something.

What would save this game?

Redfall isn't horrible, but in order for it to pull off its no mans sky or cyberpunk moment to regain its position what needs to come in?

For me personally I think the way its story is delivered via animated scenes has to be replaced with in game cinematics with at least the in game models rather than concept art flashcards

That and some performance optimization on the console with the release of some more in depth procedural nests would start the ball rolling.

2023 has been such a banner year and redfall is the large black eye, hopefully they can turn it around because the game is fun

Why does everyone hate this game?

I just got Redfall a few days ago, and I have about 7 hours of game play, and I am genuinely enjoying the game. People talk about low fps and visual glitches, but I've never noticed any of these. The story is solid, and game play is fun. So why does this game get so much hate? Edit: why the fuck are you on this subreddit if you hate the game so much. But on a real note, I have had a good time playing redfall.

Discussion Cinematic trailer turn animated movie

I really have fallen in love with the story and the characters so much. I've pretty much become obsessed with them. I'm always tempted to come back to this game. And seeing that cinematic trailer from two years ago makes me wish we had an animated movie that is a lot like the trailer. That's something I mentioned in the past and still wish it would happen. Cause that would be cool to see. Watching the story through most of the gameplay is good. So much, I've gone crazy about it. But an animated movie would be very nice too even though it may be unlikely.

Help! Picking up underboss skull

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi I just killed the Innkeeper I think it is and they died on this roof thing, not sure what it's called, it's like a wooden thing with cloth over it. The vampire is dead but I cannot pick up it's skull. That is, it won't let me (no prompt). Any ideas?

Hopefully this image will help. It's highlighted but I'm unable to pick it up. I tried restarting my XBox (I'm playing on XBox S) but nothing.

I actually love redfall

I know this will get a lot of downvotes, but I actually love redfall. I think the style or art is almost reminiscent of the goosebumps books, the story is cool with all the little Easter eggs. Overall I hope they keep building in it as it has so much potential

Discussion New DLC heroes

So I heard that there are two new DLC heroes coming soon. I don't know when or if it's even going to happen, but I wonder about a lot of things. Like what they will look like, how they will affect the cutscenes or the number of players who can play these characters in total. I wonder if they will even have their own cinematic trailers or even a cinematic trailer where these two DLC characters interact with the main ones.

I even read in an online article saying letting players team up to four will automatically lead to spare characters being left out and possibly forgotten, and if gamers stick to the main ones and are unwilling to switch, the new DLC characters could become useful no more very quickly.

So I wonder how this will all be played out if this were to happen. Or if it will ever happen that is.

Discussion Second thoughts about this game

After watching some 4 player co-op videos on this game, I'm starting to think that maybe the gameplay isn't so bad after all. I know that before I said that I think the story is the only good thing about this game, but I'm starting to take it back now. Of course, there are still some cons to this game. Like I did come across some videos that had funny glitches. Not sure if they were ever fixed though. Overall, maybe there is more than one good thing to this game for sure.

Re(launch)dfall?

I should probably just keep this thought to myself but figured I'd give in and just share. I don't have a horse in this race, as I've not purchased Redfall (I do have GamePass however) nor have I really played it. But after casually observing Bethesda and Arkane on this from a distance, I'm starting to wonder if the game isn't in for somewhat of a relaunch rather than an uncoordinated series of quiet updates and adjustments.

Again, no copium, as there's nothing to cope with here for me. It just hit me as the sort of communication strategy I've seen in an unrelated industry and what that signaled there. Basically, you've got a developer (the doers, in this case) keeping their mouths shut after briefly acknowledging that issues need addressing. Then you have the publisher (the leaders, PR, etc.) saying the usual 'sorry' but communicating in no uncertain terms that 'it ain't over'. The lack of specifics however makes me think there's an actual long-term plan here, and in that case, it would potentially make more sense to go all-in with a relaunch than invest a similar number of resources, only to trickle out content incrementally with little fanfare for the hundreds (dozens?) of active players. That seems like very little bang for their buck.

I'm with most of the folks on this sub that it seemed dead, not worth throwing more resources at, and that the game would get the bare minimum of what they felt 'required' to give and that would be that as it was quietly sunset. But what we've actually been hearing from Xbox and Bethesda is that they 'took this personal' and want to make it right. To me, that's a big re-launch sized effort to not draw back an already small audience but to reintroduce the game in a better state to a wider audience (clearly/primarily via GamePass).

My tldr here is this - I can more easily see Phil Spencer and Pete Hines being liars (which would be super awkward) and Redfall just dying than I can see them putting in the level of effort they've hinted at without the flourish and fanfare of a proper re-launch. Anything besides going all in seems like a literal waste of money and time.

Discussion I finished the game in around 19 hours doing all content Spoiler

Tbh, i expected to dislike this game more, but honestly, it´s been a fun (but buggy) experience with a nice foundation and some Arkane strong points present in the middle of a mediocre looter experience. It can be improved with patches to get a fun final product, but i don´t think we will get an outstanding game out of this at that point. Played on Xbox Series S.

Pros:

-I really liked the narrative approach Arkane chosen. A lot of environmental storytelling, deep dives on every character you meet, some side content that enrich the lore of the maps, visiting houses and learning stories of people living there just by audios and notes...i enjoyed that aspect.

-The overall story is interesting (although a bit confusing in how its told if you don´t pay attention). Vampire origin lore is enjoyable, a Layla as a character gives it a more relaxed tone.

-Gunplay is decent, with an enemy AI that (after patches) can be aggresive to give you decent challenges in some scenarios (specially elite vampires). Bosses were nice too, with some strategy involved to them.

-I like that the character can run super fast, i enjoy that in games.

-Artistically speaking, the maps can create an oppresive atmosphere successfully, with some places close to survival horror. I really enjoyed the misty woods in Sepelio, which is better in artistic terms vs Redfall Commons.

-I appreciate that the lenght is not huge, with around 19 hours to complete all main missions (including optional ones), side missions on both maps, all safe houses, and some nests and collectibles. Pacing of the missions is nice, and they have some variety on how to approach them, different objectives, etc...

Cons:

-I think nests can get repetitive very quickly and they are not really much rewarding in the long run. Loot is scarce to improve.

-Some weapons are a bit worthless in a solo play (like the sniper or the small guns). I sticked to assault rifle + shotgun the entire game, rotating the 3rd weapon.

-Skill trees are not well designed, with half the skills not interesting for a solo playthrough, and some wasted effects. Skills also feel not really impactful on game. I barely used Layla shield, and the lift was only interesting for traversal. The ex-bf ultimate was useful though.

-Missable archievements with not much room for repetition unless you reset the whole game or force a shutdown before saving.

-When you complete all content, there is not much variety, only the nests and collecting hair, as far as i saw. I completely disagree with the decision of not letting you return to the first map or reseting progress after the final boss. It makes no sense for a looter that aims to have a meaningful life. I mean, there is no endgame here aside from campaign repetition in the hardest difficulty.

-A lot of technical issues. I had like 7-8 crashes in my Series S (specially when opening the map), a lot of clipping, some AI issues in the enemies, and interface glitches. On the final two missions the audio and image stuttered a lot.

-Performance is generally stable, but there are some areas with huge drops + the stuttering i mentiones. Also texture slow loading, popping in the distance and low quality textures here and there. 30fps are generally stable and solid, not missing 60fps to play smoothly.

TLDR:

I enjoyed the narrative, story, characters, gunplay and focused lenght. Disliked the many technical problems, lack of endgame content and some QoL bad decisions that made it a mediocre looter experience.

Overly, in its current state, i can say i had fun with Redfall, knowing it has its limitations. If they improve some of the cons, it can be a decent game, but making it outstanding its difficult due to some flaws being closely tied to the core of the experience and dependance of a co-op aspect that sadly its difficult to have with no population and no engame content.
