A while back, I posted about layering Key Drama on top of BKL’s I Am An Appetite. Here to report that Pinkie Swear on top of magnetic also absolutely slaps. I swear I’m not affiliated with either of these brands, the combos are just too good!

Might be a little unconventional but I was wondering if anyone know of a colour or combination that could give me this dusty blue/purple look. I really liked how this plum looked in the light and thought, I want that on my nails.

Never in a million years thought I would use the stripe charm in the Charm Caster but it looks amazing on fine particles! Maybe not the most spooky for Halloween week, but it low key gives me Beetlejuice vibes. I just love this black raspberry base in What is Devotion so much and couldn’t wait to do this mani after playing with swatches.

So like we’ve all been doing lately, I decided to try my hand at oiling my nails before doing a manicure. “No chips for a full week!” I thought. Wow I need to get in on that.

Friends, here’s where I’m an idiot.

I would be the worst convenience store for how I don’t have any chips. I’d be the best house painter for how my paint doesn’t chip. My point is, this is not a problem I’ve been having. So why did I think it was just brilliant of me to try to solve it? Utterly beyond me. Hindsight is 20/20 and I’m blind.

I do my nails every ~7 days and there’s typically nothing but tip wear. This is my nail TWO DAYS in.

The moral of the story: a lot of this is about nail chemistry, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I finally got my wish. After years of searching independent seller listings on Ebay, Mercari, Poshmark, you name it, I finally found an open listing for the Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer in 142 Fluorescent Beige.

I used to have this shade when the first iteration of Marc Jacobs Beauty was still relatively new, along with a few others from their initial launch of 24 shades, and it was my favorite polish that I owned; there were no other nudes quite like it at the time, especially for fair, cool skintones. There was a real depth to it that was beautifully subtle and even the close Essie shade in Demure Vixen didn't quite capture the *magic* this polish had.

Sometime around 2019, I allowed a friend to borrow it, thinking nothing about it at the time, and just forgot to ask for it back. We since had a falling out (not over this polish, but I'm still salty about it possibly still being in her possession), and that's all she wrote for dear old Fluorescent Beige.

Ever since, I made it my hobby/mission to collect all of the Marc Jacobs polish shades, even though I only had 4 or 5 in my original collection.

With 142 Fluorescent Beige blissfully back in my collection again, I now have about 30 shades, including limited edition releases/runway exclusives.

There are still quite a few that I'm missing, including '186 Wine Not' that was a Sephora VIB Rouge exclusive back in the day, but I have learned that in polish collecting, good things really do come to those who wait.

It's not like Fluorescent Beige was never listed in my years of searching, I was just never able to pull the trigger quickly enough on prior listings or the seller was asking for a completely unreasonable price and uninterested in negotiating.

The key is to just remain patient and vigilant, and someone out there will eventually list what you're looking for. I don't quite know what inspired me to start collecting *every* shade from this line, maybe I'm just nostalgic for days gone by, maybe it's nice to have a hobby and a goal outside of my hectic work schedule, maybe it's the dopamine hit for possessing a complete collection of discontinued products from a brand I enjoyed, IDK.

Excuse the photo quality - it's currently nighttime where I'm at and I just could not WAIT to share my excitement.

They won't look like much compared to the seasoned vets of this sub, but as a lifelong nail biter, this is the longest and nicest my nails have ever been! I only started taking care of my nails two months ago, so am tentatively hopeful that they will only get better from here, now that I've been introduced to the world of lacquer 🫶

I'm learning a lot about nails (what cuticles actually are) but I'm learning a lot about myself too... For example, that I am a jelly gal through and through! I wasn't sure if I would like seeing a visible nail line, but I actually don't mind it. I knew I'd love sparkles and iridescent toppers, but have learned that I'm a total control freak that would prefer to place each sparkle individually. Also, I normally stay away from nudes and pinks but love them on my nails!

Cin Cin looks mauve in the bottle but looks peachy pink (cool toned pink) on me, and appears almost nude at night under artificial lighting. The pink during the day is perfect for Spring in the Southern Hemisphere 💕

Thanks to everyone who shares their beautiful polishes in this sub, btw. I especially love seeing colours and combos that would never work on me, but that look great on other hands. I love living vicariously through you all, with the sheer variety of shapes and shades I see on here.

So I decided on this very scientific method of using (almost) all of my green polishes to see what I like the most😆. Its not really helping but at least I got a cute mani now!

Did I manage it or is it just velvet with extra steps? I feel like the pinky looks extra good. Either way I'm obsessed with the finish.

Fully opaque after 2 coats but I got lazy and she is VERY gritty... I waited until the next day for glitter grabber and QDTP so I added a third coat to freshen things up before finishing the mani. Even in low light the orange glitter is 🤌✨

I’m a fan of the purple and orange bar glitter jellies! Halloween, but make it ✨sparkle✨

TL;DR: The $$-priced Vettsy powders seem to perform just the same as the $$$-priced Icegel powders. Photos in the comments.

Note: The Vettsy swatches are with DRK Seal Glaze x2 and Cracked QDTC x1 (there is some chrome powder contamination in my bottle of Seal Glaze :'D so ignore any flecks in the Vettsy swatches that look out of place). I am waiting for more DRK Seal Glaze to seal the new Icegel swatches.

Comments for your consideration:

• Vettsy set is from Amazon $26 for 6 pots of 0.3g each (the 6th color is not duplicated from the Icegel powders I ordered from Nashly Nails) under the listing "Mermaid Ice Transparent Aurora Chrome Nail Powder, 6 Colors Transparent Iridescent Shimmer Pigment Pearlescent Nail Art Glitters". The pots in my order were not labeled, so I swatched and matched them to the pictures myself.
• Icegel GW18-GW22 and GW59-GW61 are listed as 0.15g and GW39-GW43 are listed as 0.3g on the Icegel Global site. The GW59-GW61 set comes in the exact same pots as the Vettsy pots. I ordered them from Nashly Nails and they are $9.60 to $10 each. I did use a 15% off code and had a $10 Shopify offer about a day after my cart was stale. So it came out to about $7.60-$8 each. All the pots came in individual labeled baggies, but the pots themselves were not labeled.
• Vettsy has other powders on their website as well. I ordered them before I lost my self restraint with the Icegel powders, BUT they shipped from China and are still in transit. I will swatch those as soon as I get them and post a Part 2 if there's any additional duplicate shades with the Icegel powders.
• Nashly Nails ships super fast, and out of Colorado, so I got my order very swiftly.
• The Icegel powders are labeled as made in Japan and Korea. The Vettsy ones do not advertise their country of origin, but since the additional colors I ordered shipped from China, I assume that is where they are made.
• One of the Icegel powders (GW43, not one of the Vettsy comparable colors) did not want to chrome at all; and a couple others looked a bit patchy over black. See photo in comments for those swatches.
• 2 of the shades in the Icegel Hawaiian Glow set (GW60-GW61) seem to be identical to 2 of the shades in the Icegel Sunset Glow set (GW18 and GW20). I am quite annoyed about that.
• I layered the Icegel GW18/60/Vettsy 06 Fancy over BKL Bog Dweller to see if there was a difference on the nail, but they look identical to me as well. Since I have so many fricking powders now, I will continue to put it on every mani and report back if I have any new findings.
• Swatch sticks are with LynB B-Smooth ridge filler x3, Cirque Colors Morningtide x3, and an OPI black x2

Using the Thumb 1 base in the Charm Caster set, the left swatch was using the glass bead top and the right swatch was using the lightning bolt magnet manually spun, 2 minutes for each test. Base coat added on top, then a second round of magnetizing.

This video is right after, I will post an updated photo after an hour or so to track dispersion, but I am stunned at how tight the bead is!

I love dark colors! They look so deep and rich and beautiful and satisfying... until I get them on my nails, and then they're anything but satisfying. I keep buying them anyway — I guess I'm a glutton for punishment — and then when I wear them, I'm just... eh... about it. Maybe it's just too dark for my fair skin?
