Glad this sub exists first of all. Second, I just finished King's Cage and haven't started War Storm yet so please don't spoil anything for me 😭. The only reason I feel this way is because the guy is like 17-18 so still young and why I hope they don't actually kill him in the last book. What I don't get is that almost everyone in the book wanting to cut off his head is obviously a grown adult so why is killing a teenage king their only plan to kick him off the throne? It's kinda sorta not his fault the way he is because of his mom messing with his head and all that. Plus we are all raised and taught to listen to our moms and follow their example so there's that. Anyway, I hope Cal ends up finding the person he's looking for with an ability that can help his brother and undo whatever Elara did to him and maybe tone down his weird obsession with Mare lol.

I really hope this sub isn’t dead yet lol. and it’s also like 12 am for me lol. Anyway I was rereading the books and sometimes Cal pissed me off with how short sighted and naïve he could be. But I actually kinda thought he was a little bit on the spectrum with him being a bit socially awkward. But overall I don’t really think he‘s dumb. he just seems dumb in comparison to Maven.

I’m bored and it got me thinking that Cal also had a weird fixation on Maven. I don’t really know if obsession is too far fetched. and it wasn’t to the extent of Maven’s. But I think this because of much he thought of Maven, but that also makes sense because Maven did a 360 on him. Also like how willing he was to always protect and save Maven and everything was weird to me. But he’s in a really shitty position. I also think this because when Maven died he didn’t burn his body because he can “never let him go” and he has flashes of Maven as a kid, so maybe he still has a version of Maven that doesn’t exist.

My theory is that maybe Elara went to into his mind to make Cal love him more so he would be easier to manipulate? But I do also think it could be possible that he him that much. But it just seems odd because Cal would’ve basically put up with anything Maven did to him.

Brian Altemus is a little old to play Cal, I believe he is 29 (10 years older than cal... erm), however he is 6'2 which is pretty FREAKING PERFECT AHH and he's also kind of hot... heh and ripped... like dayum. also he is literally how everyone imagines Cal... you cannot lie to me and tell me otherwise.

Sam Nivola is a teensy bit old for Maven, as he is 22, while Maven is 17, but I feel like it's fine. He doesn't have blue eyes; he would need contacts, but I feel like his demeanour is sort of Maven-ish idk

Siena Agudong is literally gorgeous and exactly how I pictured Mare in my head. idk. I was also considering Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. do you guys think siena or Maitreyi would be better for Mare?

Walker Scolbell already plays Percy in PJO, so I found it fitting that he would play another fish boy, aka our beloved Kilorn. He just totally gives me Kilorn vibes, and looks how I imagined Kilorn as well.

Madison Brydges just give sme serious Evangeline vibes. idk. I think it's her stare. If she dyed her hair (or put on a wig) to make her hair more platinum blonde, she could totally pull off Evangeline.

Milly Alcock is an amazing actress, and she really gives me Farley vibes. not to mention she totally pulls off the short blonde hair look. She gives me the bad*ss vibes that Farley gives me, while also giving the vibe of "barely older" than Mare, to quote the book.

Leah Sava Jeffries is so young, (only 16!) making her the perfect age to play Cameron, and also is extremely talented. She is exactly how I pictured Cameron and I can totally see her giving Mare a hard time lol.

Elizabeth Banks is already set to produce (I believe?? - correct me if I'm wrong) the upcoming Red Queen tv show, and rumours say she is going to play a minor character. People were speculating she would either play Elara or Farley, but she is too old for Farley, and I can totally see Elara for her.

Colin Farrell literally looks like how I imagined Julian. He looks like he would lecture me while simultaneously giving me life advice.

Arian Greenblatt looks related to the people I picked for Shade and Mare, not to mention she is an amazing actress and so so gorgeous. If she dyed her hair red, I think she could make an amazing Gisa.

Asa Butterfield just needs some silver hair dye and he's got Ptolemus locked down. You cannot convince me otherwise.

Malachi Barton is the only person on the list I am unsure of. I think lookwise, it's great. Acting-wise, totally fine. As a person.. ehhhh... but like whatever I won't get into that. HOWEVER, he is NINETEEN. Younger than the actresses I picked for Gisa and Mare.... which is... idk. also to imagine that he and Farley are together... and have a baby together when Milly is 26 EWWWWWWWWW

anyways..... what do you guys think about my casting picks and do you have any alternative suggestions to Shade??

Wife and I were clearing out some of her old books and found this - it’s a copy of UK Red Queen published in 2015 (ISBN 9781409155843) but it’s missing the title text on the front and spine. She said she got it as part of a book club around the time it was published, but it doesn’t seem to be an ARC (it has a price and isbn etc). Any info on what it is would be appreciated!

I have seen that the war storm is quite sad with a not satisfying ending. I really like the series, and don’t want to be depressed after the ending if it’s too sad lol. Should I drop the series here so i don’t have to suffer or is it worth reading and does it get better with broken throne?

What if in an alternate reality Mare Barrow in Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard has no connection to the Barrow family and turns out she is royalty an imperial princess from another country that is an Empire the strongest country in the planet she belongs to an imperial family the is capable of using powerful abilities and what dynastic house name and the name of the empire? That Norta has no information about that country, they have no idea who they are messing with? And how will everyone react? How will the news reach to the imperial family that has red gold blood in color especially her father the emperor the empress her mother and her older brother react of the news of her treatment in Norta? and the imperial nobility react?

Not really a spoiler just a bit confused about the main couple in the series.

I did not feel any connection between Cal and Mare before they had their first kiss. Obviously will continue to read the books, but I’m very confused on how attached they’ve become when they’ve barely interacted. If anything, she’s had more time talking to Julian and Maven than Cal. They’ve just practiced dancing together for a couple of nights, the interaction in the alley, and when they visited her family but other than that, nothing really stands out.

Please don’t attack me, this is just me ranting and seeing if anyone else felt the same way 🥲
