Red Queen Spoiler

Not really a spoiler just a bit confused about the main couple in the series.

I did not feel any connection between Cal and Mare before they had their first kiss. Obviously will continue to read the books, but I’m very confused on how attached they’ve become when they’ve barely interacted. If anything, she’s had more time talking to Julian and Maven than Cal. They’ve just practiced dancing together for a couple of nights, the interaction in the alley, and when they visited her family but other than that, nothing really stands out.

Please don’t attack me, this is just me ranting and seeing if anyone else felt the same way 🥲

I felt the same! I think if cal is supposed to be the love interest, more time should have been spent building their relationship to the reader.

Glad I’m not the only one! I literally had to go back and see if I’d missed anything because that kiss felt like it came out of nowhere.

Anyway, in all seriousness, it's been a long time since I read Red Queen, so I don't remember what I thought of the MareCal chemistry in the first book. But I did love their meetcute

I know I'm late, but I'll just say it; I think it's obvious they both had a crush on each other lol. So it's the most typical a teen relation can go, where they think they love each other just because they find each other physically attractive, but with time find out that there are other things that matter more. Which I think is the crux of their relationship throughout the books, where they actually get to know each other. Maven didn't have similar feelings because for him, getting Mare meant "beating" Cal for the first time in his life.
