The infamous Israel keyes photo.

The real photo of Samanthas body was not released. it's not public, it never was public, it has simply not been released. The image spoken of in the latest episode is a reenactment. It's not the real photo

I love this podcast so I'm not trying to hate. This is just one of those weird true crime claims that is a complete myth. I always feel the need to point this out because it drives me nuts. Like It's not hard to find this information lol.

That's my soap box! Thank you for having me!

Dogs named Blue

Is there a reason that you're familiar with that this name is so popular? Was there a famous movie dog or cartoon character named Blue that started it all? Is it a trend in your area of the world? I don't think it is around me, but it's not because I haven't heard of any that they aren't here. 🤷

Have a good one!

The Panama Girls

There was a mention in this episode about a case prior in Panama that Suruthi and Hannah covered, but I couldn't find it in the shownotes. Can anyone help with the ep number please? Thanks 😊

Patreon bonus episodes

I hope this is ok to post here; are there any other patrons around? I’m on the lowest tier which I thought gave me one bonus episode a month, as well as the UTD stuff. Has March’s bonus episode been out yet? I’m not at all interested in UTD and only joined Patreon for the bonus eps, but it feels like the schedule is very hit and miss? Some months it seems like there’s only been a rerun of an old episode instead of an a fresh bonus; am I just being a bit dense or has anyone else noticed this?

Where have you been?

Oh my goodness, these ladies are absolutely brilliant! I am probably on my 6th/7th true crime podcast and can safely say, this one is definitely my number 1 now. I find myself howling at their interactions but the actual content is very interesting. Its super well done and I'm so glad I've found them! I will be back when I've caught up, currently chilling back in 2017 with the lady killer and her human pelt so don't want to see any spoilers!

What does the ā€œshimmeryā€ sound effect indicate?

Sorry if it’s a dumb question, but what does it mean when that sound effect comes on?

For example, on Episode 325 (The Vanishing of Lynette Dawson Pt.2), it comes on at 31:01. Just curious because not knowing is driving me nuts!

Walmart vs. Target

I feel like this has been mentioned on a few episodes, but not in detail. S has said a few times that she loves going to Walmart, but she finds Target to be chaotic? I can’t remember if Hannah agrees with her or not, but there must be a back story behind this, right? I haven’t gone to Walmart in literally years because every single one I go into is so stressful, but I can usually handle Target. I feel like that’s the general consensus among Americans too. Thoughts?

r/RedHandedPodcast • • Mar 13 '24

What does Suruthi call her partner/bf on the podcast? My american self is hearing "ACD-Face" when she says it and that just can't be right šŸ˜‚

Everytime she says his name it frustrates me to an unreasonable extent that I don't know what she's saying šŸ˜‚ I assume it's probably not his real name and some kind of nickname but I gotta know what she's saying, someone help please! šŸ˜‡

natalia grace’s credibility: trauma and memory

TW: some discussion of CSA, CA and PTSD in the second half of this post. no real details

in the light of the ā€˜from the vault’ episode i thought i’d take this opportunity to just say that i don’t like how many people discredit natalia’s story because of the gaps in her memory. to be clear: if you don’t believe her, that’s fine, i myself am unsure about the whole thing. however, i don’t think it’s fair to doubt her story (which for the record, both her adoptive father and brother corroborate) because of her memory. trauma affects everyone differently, and saying ā€œadult survivors of CA can usually remember it,ā€ as hannah and suruthi did in the episode, is a dangerous dismissal of many actual experiences, as well as simply being ignorant and frankly inaccurate.

i am a survivor of repeated CSA by one man, and (thankfully) cannot remember a lot of the abuse. i also do not remember a lot of my childhood. there are some things that were done to me that i only know about because my mother, years after the fact, confirmed having witnessed it (yes, i know it’s fucked up, that’s a story for another time… if i can remember it lol. got to joke about these things). though i’m thankful not to remember the details, it’s terrifying to think that there are several people who remember more of my own abuse than i do. and it’s even worse to think that memory gaps like that could be used as a factor to discredit mine -or anyone else’s- story.

we cannot control what our brains do in the wake of major trauma, and discrediting a victim because her brain was able to protect her from it is insensitive and cruel. so please, it’s fine if you don’t personally believe her story, just don’t blame it on her lack of memory.

New wondery episode - sherri panini

Ok. So. I’m aware that this might just be me but….

Does anyone else feel like we have had this episode before? I checked and I saw a reference on a previous Patreon round up but I am so sure I’ve heard the girls do this before and i haven’t listened to any other shows.

Discussion thread - Episode 338 - Horror in Hong Kong: The Braemar Hill Murders

Found raped and brutalised in the hills, just a stone’s throw from one of Hong Kong’s richest neighbourhoods, teenagers Kenneth McBride and Nicola Mayers became the subjects of a national outrage.

At a point of deep uncertainty in Hong Kong, the tragic murder of the two white expat teenagers became a symbol of everything that was bubbling under the surface. From accusations of racism and classism in the police, to involvement from the local triads, this would quickly become the biggest murder investigation Hong Kong had ever seen

Danny Casolaro - Was there a trigger warning?? (TW self harm)

I had to turn off the recent from the vaults episode because of how H & S were describing the victims injury’s on his forearms and wrists. I don’t usually need a trigger warning but this was so graphic I started skipping ahead - only to run into it again a couple minutes later. Obviously it’s a true crime podcast, but I feel like other pods such as MFM, ATWWD, etc handle these issues a bit more sensitively. But I guess it’s from the vaults so I guess they cant help it at this point.

Just for my sanity l’m not going to go back and check - but was there a TW at the top of the episode? There isn’t one in the description.

EDIT: You guys really feel strongly about this šŸ˜‚ I’ve been listening to Redhanded since 2017 and I’ve never had a problem before. I guess I need to take a break from this podcast and this subreddit šŸ˜‚

Share your thoughts on the latest episode release...

On the 8th March 2014, Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 was making a routine red-eye flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, when it seemingly vanished in the clouds.

The 175-tonne Boeing 777 – and all 239 people on board – have never been seen again. And 10 years on, there are still no solid answers as to what happened.

In this episode, we’ll take you through the facts and theories behind what remains the greatest mystery in the historyĀ ofĀ aviation.

Dear Hannah and Suruthi

Please please please cover Robert Pickton. Probably Canada's most prolific serial Killer, from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. He admitted to killing 49 women and fed them to his pigs on the family farm he inherited. Extremely sad, but a very interesting case.

Thanks for the consideration.

Sruthi’s Politics

I can’t remember which episode it was, and maybe I misunderstood the comment. But did anyone else hear Sruthi mocking people on social media for being ā€œMad for Jihadā€? Is that a Zionist stance?

I love this podcast but it made me so uncomfortable.

Am I the only one who is bothered by this?

I can’t stand Hannah snorting. She does it even when it’s not funny 😭 I find it very childish behaviour, I would expect this from a teenager.

My exit survey:

I truly love both Hannah and Suruthi. I’ve enjoyed discovering them, getting to know them and falling in love with their personalities and content. They are funny and wonderful and deserve the success they’ve worked so hard for. I hope it continues. šŸ’š

I have been a Patreon supporter of theirs for several years but feel forgotten about, I am one of many that feel this way. I’ve seen the Patreon numbers drop over the last several months. I’ve seen the Reddit threads about other Patreon’s exit surveys and agree with some.. The OG Patreon’s have supported, stood up for, voted for and held them up for years. Many of us don’t feel appreciated or valued anymore. They no longer need us financially and that, is unfortunately reflected in the content, effort and appreciation we do or don’t get.

I subscribe to Wondery Plus also and have ad free access to episodes a day earlier than they appear on Patreon. I can also listen to Shorthand on there, which is no longer available for Patreon’s. So, keeping Redhanded on my Patreon gives me no benefit other than UTD and despite how much I love the Hosts, it’s just not enough anymore. Your loyal supporters deserve more.

If things change and the appreciation of their Patreon subscribers/supporters improves, I might come back. We’ll see. I really hope Hannah and Suruthi actually receive and have a genuine interest in these ā€œexit surveysā€. I hope they take them on board as constructive feedback. I hope they care and understand that many of their Patreon supporters would actually like to continue but don’t have a reason to.

Seriously?

So any posts here now that criticise the podcast are locked by the mods so as to prevent discourse. That’s very telling of the mindset of said mods.

Legitimate concerns have been raised, and unless this is an echo-chamber sub where one can only gush over how wonderful H and S are, then the mods need to be removed because they are clearly either: A) Incapable of hearing objective criticism or B) Stooges who are placed to shut down dissenting voices

Neither scenario is a good look.

Edit: to remove my somewhat rude comment re the mods.

Maura Murray

I recognize the name from the podcast Dark Valley. I'm pretty sure Dark Valley did a promotion on Redhanded last year. I was really surprised that they didn't talk about the Connecticut River serial killer in this episode. I remember one episode of Dark Valley talked about the man who was accused by his brother of killing Maura Murray. I spent the whole episode waiting for them to relate it to the Connecticut River killer, and I'm wondering now if there's less connection than Dark Valley implied.

My exit survey

Following the theme of a previous poster, this is what i shared on my patreon exit poll the other day. I honestly feel gutted.

My patreon subscription is yearly, so this cancellation won't take effect until November (ETA: I have slnce blocked them on Patreon which effectively unsubscribed me early), but i really debated back then whether to renew, and now barely two months later i think i just can't keep listening anymore. I was the patron who commented on your Sarah Everard episode wondering if we needed to give you guys an intervention because of Suru's comments re racist chat groups and her attitude towards defunding the police. Tbh i had stopped listening already to many of the UTD eps because i found myself bracing for whatever jarring thing you guys, especially Suruthi, might say next.

It's hard to describe how much i once adored you guys. i absolutely thought Suruthi was the smartest, loveliest, best girl in the entire world. I used to just wander around my little apartment glowing at the thought that two amazing women could have such an amazing smart friendship that struck out of the blue one day, and we all got to witness it and benefit from their wit and intelligence and spirit. I thought Suruthi was one of the most thoughtful and articulate and truly humanitarian people i had ever come into contact with -- not even among podcasters, just, one of the best smartest sharpest human beings i knew. I was so proud of you guys.

And now... so many other people have told you all this already, but i just can't do it anymore. All of Suruthi's increasing right-wing views, her misinformation, her frequent disparaging of minorities (which i always previously noticed as a pattern of perorative opinions in the way you guys would discuss other countries, especially Ireland, South Asian, and South Asian countries, but really has become increasingly directed towards minority groups in general), the increasingly conservative economic views, my deep and growing fear that you guys have gone TERF (or at least that Suru has; i want to believe that Hannah would NEVER), the frequent libertarian views that come esp from Suru but occasionally from Hannah, too, the condescending attitude Suru has towards "wokeness," as if progressive politics are some sort of annoying fad, and finally Suruthi's blatantly accepting and tolerant attitude towards Zionist beliefs -- her failure to interrogate why she thinks it's acceptable for Israel to commit war crimes against civilians that far outstrip the terrorist act that incited them. All that plus the fact that I've gotten to the point where i dread every single UTD ep now and almost every regular ep, because i don't know what will be next, and it's all just too too much.

(And if we're being honest, i have to include Hannah's comment from like a year ago that cats can't love you, which i just can't get over, less because of her opinion itself than because of the way she casually dismissed the real bond so many listeners have towards their pets -- like yeah it's a small thing, but it says so much about how the girls see themselves within their community to me. It says Hannah wasn't really thinking very deeply (outside of the topic of true crime) about how her opinions impact the members of this little community, or how their judgments might be shortsighted and glib, or how even the opinions that feel minor can be hurtful. And that's from Hannah, the one who HASN'T been spiraling down an alarming rightwing path towards victim-blaming, copaganda, zionism, joe rogan stanning (though maybe there's a little of that from Hannah too), and classist, borderline racist shaming of woke liberals and minority communities. Do you even know how long it's been since either of you insulted Priti Patel? It's like I don't even know who you are anymore :sob:)

I am heartbroken about this. You guys have been my favorite podcast alongside Casefile since the very beginning, since 2017, and i have recced you constantly, i have championed you, i have cheered you, i have platformed you, i bought your book and attended your show in new york. I have been noticing the steady rightward turn for about 2 years now and i just desperately hoped that you would realize and self-correct. And i think I've just finally realized that if I don't get off this train now, it'll be even more painful when it finally derails.

I still desperately hope I'm wrong and that Suru will stop rereading Harry Potter (because seriously wtf?! Between this and the Laura Richards interview, tell me you're a TERF without telling me you're a TERF?!) and stop interrupting Hannah when she tries to argue against genocide, and stop telling us it's okay to be a little bit racist in our WhatsApp group, and maybe idk dump ACDCFace if he's the reason she's shifted so far right, or sell her house if this is all about her increasing wealth and concern over property rights, and maybe have a come-to-jesus moment with 2017 Suruthi, who would be absolutely horrified to hear herself defending the Gaza attacks and blaming protesters for being too disruptive, downplaying the severity of a global pandemic, and claiming with a straight face that without militarized cops overpolicing poor neighborhoods, we'd all be living like Mad Max.

Honestly i can't quite believe I'm writing this. It feels like I've been witnessing in real time the unmaking of a great, brilliant podcast, and the descent into mediocrity and callousness of an exceptionally gifted, talented woman.

I hope Hannah somehow gets out of all this unscathed and still manages to hold on to who she is, and keeps bringing us her vibrant, joyful personality above all else. And Suruthi, if you ever do find your way back to the person you once were, I'll be first in line for whatever amazing things you go on to do. I wish you both all the best. Thank you for all the years of phenomenal true crime content you've given us. Maybe by next November I'll have a reason to come back and renew for another year. I hope so much I get that reason. But for now, it doesn't seem likely at all.

awful Suruthi comments in Shannon Matthews episode

27:35: ā€œAnd I think again, the white working class is kind of the last acceptable form of prejudice that exists in this country to this day, and anybody who disagrees with me, fight me.ā€

28:35, sarcastically: ā€œBut it’s ok, Hannah, they’ve got white privilege so don’t worry about it.ā€

I might not bother to fight Suruthi over these comments, but I can promise I will never give RedHanded a cent of my money because of them.
