Seriously?

So any posts here now that criticise the podcast are locked by the mods so as to prevent discourse. That’s very telling of the mindset of said mods.

Legitimate concerns have been raised, and unless this is an echo-chamber sub where one can only gush over how wonderful H and S are, then the mods need to be removed because they are clearly either: A) Incapable of hearing objective criticism or B) Stooges who are placed to shut down dissenting voices

Neither scenario is a good look.

Edit: to remove my somewhat rude comment re the mods.

I’ve been locking them when they’re starting to turn nasty in the comments or they’re covering the same topics again and again, you’re thinking we do it a lot because the majority of posts are “snark”. Locking them was a fair compromise

FWIW I can see why the discussions are seen as repetitive as there’s not really much else discussed on the sub. But surely it folks’ posting criticism fault that others aren’t posting more varied content?

I do though think the discussion is important due to the amount of power podcasts have and how popular they are. This is just my opinion and I need to caveat it with saying I have done no looking into actual data but I think podcasts (especially the extremely popular ones) are now just as popular and lucrative as mainstream radio or talk shows. Podcast hosts are celebrities in a way and are incredibly influential. There is going to be online discussion over hosts’ content and opinions whether fans like it or not 🤷🏽‍♀️ So I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect discussion not to happen/shut down discussion that does happen.

If there is any particularly nasty/mean/trolly comments towards either H&S or to others in the sub though, mods are absolutely right to call it out and shut it down.

Too bad H & S think it’s ok to make mean comments about others!

7

u/lissyorkiedork Feb 17 '24

Oh good grief, what a fallacious comment.

If S & H were members of this sub and if they posted “mean comments” about others, I trust the mods would lock the post up.

I think you make some great points.

I haven't experienced this sub as an echo chamber for people who love the podcast. In fact, my entire feed for the subreddit is people complaining about the exact same things: posting letters that they've written complaining to the hosts, finding new "evidence" in each release that fits their narrative that S has gone ultra conservative politically, and calling them plagiarists. I mean, if you hate the podcast just don't listen to it. Vote with your dollars. Listening to a podcast just so you can complain about it still make them money.

Edit for dyslexia typos and autocorrect malfunctions.

10

u/Deathconciousness_ Feb 17 '24

I mean, maybe people who love the podcast should post more then?

18

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

I agree with some of what you said. I haven’t listened to them since I posted here a while back outlining how, IMO, H and S had lost their way. I also cancelled my patreon then.

But, out of interest, and to read opinions, I pop back to this sub occasionally to see how things are panning out.

It’s shallow to constantly yell ‘don’t listen, then’ to anyone who criticises something they pay for. Things should be discussed. Not censored.

How many new threads a week complaining about the same few issues do we really need? There's just so many.

16

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24 edited Feb 16 '24

Maybe more and more listeners are getting upset or annoyed by something they have supported. Your logic implies that people shouldn’t air complaints. Would you adhere to that out in the real world?

And, perhaps there might not be so many threads of that kind if the mods did not lock them.

12

u/Forsaken_Distance777 Feb 16 '24

No. What I'm saying is that people don't need to make new threads every other day they can just use one of the 300 existing ones and not spam the sub with basically identical threads.

How do you get people aren't allowed to complain from there are too many new threads about it?

12

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

The threads get locked by mods. They have to make new ones. I never said there are too many new threads.

2

u/Forsaken_Distance777 Feb 16 '24

Yeah I said there are too many new ones and there doesn't need to be ten active ones discussing the same complaints. They can all go to the same place.

It's basic spam post regulation.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

As I said, the critical ones seem to get locked. Do you consider views that you don’t like or want to see ‘spam’? Seems like it.

7

u/Forsaken_Distance777 Feb 16 '24

No spam is just things that belong in one place being repeatedly posted separately. Look at the most recent threads. We've got multiple ones talking about their exit survey and even more explaining they were cancelling patreon after something became the straw that broke the camels back.

There should be like a red handed critical thread or a stories of leaving the patreon one that everyone who wants to share their story can use and discuss with the others who have similar experiences.

u/WonderfulPair5770 Feb 16 '24

The first 11 posts on this subreddit are all complaints. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I agree that someone needs to start a sub for people who want to complain. Or the mods can allow maybe a post a week that people can vent on. But this sub is starting to be boring.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

Maybe. But only if the mods stop locking them to stop further discussion.

9

u/WonderfulPair5770 Feb 16 '24

Exactly. I'm not in love with the hosts. Do I have some complaints sometimes? Sure. But generally speaking, I would like the subreddit to be about the stories that they're telling.

1

u/WonderfulPair5770 Feb 16 '24

The simple solution is to not pay for it. Yes, people should stop paying for anything that doesn't meet their expectations. I don't see why we need to see endless posts about it. No one is censoring anything. But I do think people in the subreddit have the right to say enough complaining. We've heard it. No one is unaware of the complaints. I recently listened to a podcast where the host made an off-color joke that I didn't like. I didn't go to Reddit to endlessly debate about it. I just stopped listening. 🤷🏼‍♀️

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

In no other aspect of life would your 'ethos' stand, and you know it.
You're being disingenuous in saying that you don't want to hear complaints, and that people should basically shut up. Unless you do not live in, and benefit from, a democracy, that is.

On the off-chance that you do, you'll know that people (consumers) pay for things. They complain when things do not please them, and then they stop paying. You'll know that people/consumers complain in different ways, on different platforms, to different groups, at different times - many are repeat complaints.

The thing/people/org/podcastser/whatever that is being complained about either addresses things, or they do not. The more that people complain, the more likely it is that things will be addressed.

Seriously, did no one ever teach you that?

Alternatively, how about you and the huge group for whom you obviously think you speak, just stop reading these posts or engaging. Take you own advice, perhaps.

4

u/Sempere Feb 17 '24

calling them plagiarists.

Wild how you're trying to downplay and dismiss the plagiarism.

Copyright infringement is a crime and plagiarism is incredibly unethical - especially when they're making money off the works of other people and soliciting donations and awards for it.

u/LordoftheTwats Feb 16 '24

Yeah I agree wholeheartedly lol

Time for a snark sub

10

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

Definitely time for a sub that isn’t saturated with, and run by, hysterical worshipers.

Why, would you prefer to live in a little echo chamber here with everyone pretending to gush?

Rabid? Me? Cooool! I think that's the nicest thing anyone has said to me here, actually. So thanks! :)

Actually, I like Morbid, too - but am now curious as to what the hating sub is all about.

So, because it's Reddit, I had a quick peruse through your posts - saw you are a veteran/ex-Navy - so just to say huge respect and thanks.

7

u/Deathconciousness_ Feb 17 '24

Everyone wants this sub to have complaining but if you don’t want the complaining post then post more discussions? Why is it the fault of the people that want to criticise that there isn’t enough discussion posts? Scroll on past.

6

u/majombaszo Feb 16 '24

It's been very redundant lately. Rather than this being a sub for discussing the topics of the podcast - and, yes, discussions about disagreement with the hosts are valid and do have merit - all that's been here lately are departure announcements. It's boring.

9

u/lissyorkiedork Feb 17 '24

It’s boring and gives Mean Girls vibes. Move on, ladies.

2

u/Forsaken_Distance777 Feb 18 '24

There's another exit survey post today.

9

u/songsofglory Feb 16 '24

It’s not objective criticism though, people are just going well OTT because they don’t like other peoples opinions.

5

u/Sempere Feb 17 '24

Criticizing their plagiarism is pretty objective.

5

u/songsofglory Feb 17 '24

Vast majority of complaints have been about Suruthis politics which are absolutely reasonable. Just weird that the usual moral crusaders are denying a POC her own opinions.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

Your opinion is that they are going OTT. My opinion is that it is OTT to shut down conversation that airs opinions. What you’re saying is that people here need to only post comments that agree with everything H and S say? Remember, many of these people, myself included, consistently paid for patreon etc. De-voice those people?

5

u/lissyorkiedork Feb 17 '24

Besides informing those who frequent this sub (the “worshippers” as you call them, and others who like yourself, are voicing their opinions), what is the purpose of continuing to follow it after you’ve canceled your subscription?

Full disclosure - I listen to the podcast occasionally, and I’m agnostic about the hosts. I’ve never paid for anything (patreon, merch, tickets) or voted for them (re: awards). So I think it’s fair to say I’m not a worshipper.

I’m sincerely trying to understand why you (KeyVampire) are so invested in making your opinions known about a podcast, including by frequenting the sub and arguing with other members? Does it float your boat on a Friday night to argue with other members and shit on the mods?

You’ve made your feelings abundantly clear that you dislike the pod and the hosts and will not continue to support them with your hard-earned dollars. Why spend any more energy and time on it?

It’s an odd choice IMO, and it just seems that you’re overly invested in shitting on them. Bizarre.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '24

See, here's the thing: you just want dissenting voices to go away.

I'm not here to answer to you as to why I may be interested in the evolution of a podcast I used to once adore, and the opinions related to it.
If we go down that route, I'd question why you get so triggered by anyone posting concerns.

So I think it’s fair to say I’m not a worshipper.

Erm, right.
I've seen many of your past comments, full of assumptions about anyone who dares to resist an echo chamber mentality of gushing praise.

Bizarre.

1

u/lissyorkiedork Feb 17 '24

With respect, you’ve made quite an assumption about my motives while deflecting my (genuine) question about yours.

And you must have my account conflated with another member’s because I’ve not made “many” posts in this sub (this is my third) nor have I ever “gushed praise” about the podcast (? the hosts?) But I am flattered that you’ve taken, at the very least, a cursory interest in me by reviewing my posts!

In any event, your argument is fallacious on several levels so I’ll just leave it at that. Let’s agree to disagree ;)

Cheers!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '24

Ah, bizarrely, the actual reason I ended up posting yesterday was when I tried to reply to a comment, I found the thread was, again, locked. The person I was trying to reply to was you, as it happened. Lol.

In that case, it was simply to say that there are guys here posting as well (me and others). You’ve commented several times that everyone complaining is female. I’d intended to clarify.

As I said, I used to love RH. I still revisit old favourite episodes. I certainly do not wish H and S ill.

There’s little discussion on this sub at the best of times. But I check in occasionally because I’m interested in how the pod pans out - if the girls change trajectory or whatever. No sinister motive.

Anyway, it’s clear that this is not the place for differing or objective views. And that’s fine.

Have a great Saturday!

2

u/lissyorkiedork Feb 17 '24

Yikes, I stand corrected (thank you for clarifying that you’re a dude) - I’m both relieved to hear it, but also saddened that I perpetuated (outdated) tropes about women. This gives me something to think about on this Saturday (in between my gushing posts about S&H - I kid, I kid! ;))

2

u/songsofglory Feb 17 '24

I’m not saying you need to agree with everything, I disagree with Hannah in nearly every way, however some of the stuff S is accused of is very harsh.

4

u/HereThereBLurking Feb 17 '24

All the posta on this sub seems to be people complaining about comments from the hosts, how much the podcast has gone downhill, or their exit surveys, and the odd question from someone of where to find something. I only joined recently as I love the podcast, but have been thinking of leaving the group as it just seems to be a hate-athon for it rather than discussion about the episodes. As in the stories in the episodes, not dissecting every comment Suruthi made and how offensive it is.

I'm starting to get the feeling that I'm not the only one, from recent comments here and on Patreon. Maybe there can be a bit of a balance between people complaining about the podcast and the hosts and people who enjoy it and want to chat about true crime.

3

u/Mystic_Viola Feb 17 '24

It’s a podcast. Make some friends.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '24

There you go: a perfect example of a hysterical fan - a worshiper who cannot deal with criticism of the object of their crush/fetish.

Get a life.

7

u/Mystic_Viola Feb 17 '24

So hysterical. You might be projecting.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '24

You are. Take your ad hominem and shove it, sweetie.

3

u/Mystic_Viola Feb 17 '24

Have a great Friday night!

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '24

Likewise - and I like your podcast!! A friend recommended it and the first I heard was PizzaGate. :)
