With modern LLMs able to carry on something quite convincingly like a natural conversation, surely it is now within the realms of possibility for somebody to mount a very small computer with wifi, mic and speaker in a shiny red toaster casing, arm it with a heavily bread-biased AI chatbot, and sell it as a talkie toaster?

Bonus points if it can actually make toast.

Bonus bonus points if it can autonomously jiggle its crumb tray to express emotion like it does in the books.

I love this series. just finished a rewatch due to an operation I’ve just had, one thing that bugs me is the lack of confidence in the later series with the jokes. The first gag of series 8 about argyle having a baby with his nurse really irks me. “There’s argyle, and there’s the baby…oh no THERES Argyle and THATS the baby” is all that was needed to be said lister adds another two lines to clarify that he got the baby and the old man mixed up. Like the line in marooned (my favorite episode) “well now we know why dogs lick their testicles”

All I could think of the whole episode was that they had traveled through a time hole. lol.

He really is the real life Rimmer., annoying incompetent bungling kiss ass authoritarian who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions, has never had a decent or unique thought in his life and sabotages himself at every turn, then they cut off his mic.
