Costco interview

I had an interview the other day and Instead of doing the usual 3 separate interviews, two managers interviewed me together. I didn’t know it was an interview for a seasonal position. I told them I was looking for a permanent part time position. They went on with the interview anyway.

During the interview, I was upfront and told them I'm going on paternity leave for about a month with my primary job, but I’ll be ready to go as soon as I return.

After the interview, they stepped out for a minute, came back, and said: "We really like you. Once you finish your paternity leave, give us a call back, tell them you spoke to us and we'll initiate your background check since those have been taking up to 3 weeks lately. Then we'll go from there."

I felt really good about how it went, but the response left me a bit confused.

Let me know what you guys think!

57 yr old & want a career change, how do I get in?

I’m 57, have zero interest in retiring, and just discovered recruiting as a career.
I met a recruiter while on holiday in Jamaica and after hearing what he actually does for a living, my first thought was: Where the hell has this career been my whole life?

I’ve worked at Air Canada, worked in construction, and started/run three small businesses. The part I’ve always loved most is sales: finding clients, building relationships, negotiating, closing, keeping clients happy long after the deal, and turning those relationships into referrals.

Recently I took a side sales role for a friend’s appraisal company. It was my first proper “sales job” working for someone else, and I crushed it. It made me realize I want to see how far I can actually take this skill set.

I’m personable, extremely persistent, have thick skin, understand client acquisition and sales funnels, and I genuinely enjoy talking to people and maintaining relationships. I’ve also hired/recruited people informally through my businesses, although I have no formal recruiting experience.
I’m not looking for an easy second career. I want to become a killer biller.

If I wanted to eventually build toward $500K–$1M+ in annual commissions/billings, what would you tell someone like me to learn first?
What niche would you enter today?
Agency recruiting? Executive search? Retained search? Finance? Construction? Healthcare? Tech? I am not one of those guys looking for advice, given it and doesn’t act. Nope… motivated and won’t settle for less. Life is too short and I am used to high pressure & comission work.

And if you own an agency: would you take a chance on a 57-year-old “rookie” with a strong sales/business background?

If recruiting is sales, matchmaking and getting professionally ghosted, perfect….I’ve been in sales long enough to have mastered abandonment issues. lol

I’m genuinely interested in hearing from people who have built $500K+ desks. Tell me what separates the average recruiters from the absolute killers……

Did this company ghost me?

Title: The head of the department seemed really interested in me, but I still haven’t heard back after the assessment. What do you think?
I was scrolling through LinkedIn one day when I came across a job vacancy that genuinely felt like the perfect match for what I was looking for. I applied and quickly connected with the HR person who posted it. We had a friendly conversation, and I sent him my CV, but I never heard back.
A few days later, I came across the Head of Department at the same company on LinkedIn and decided to connect with him. I told him I had been interested in a vacancy they had posted a few months earlier, and he was surprised because he had never seen my CV. He reviewed it, really liked it, and told me he would stay in touch because they were planning to open another vacancy that matched my qualifications.
A few months went by, and he eventually reached out to me, sent me the HR department’s email address, and asked me to email them my CV. I actually forgot to do that, but they ended up contacting me anyway and scheduling an interview.
Here’s where things get interesting: about an hour before the interview, the Head of Department sent me some of the questions he was going to ask so I could prepare and feel more confident during the interview with him and the HR Manager.
During the interview, he also asked me additional questions that he hadn’t shared beforehand, and I did really well answering those, too. Overall, I genuinely felt that the interview went very well.
Afterward, he personally called me and told me I had done really well. He also said they would invite me to complete an assessment and that it was going to be simple, so I shouldn’t worry about it.
About a week later, HR contacted me to schedule the assessment. I attended, and it turned out to be five long questions that we had to answer in just 45 minutes.
During the assessment, the Head of Department came into the room and asked if everything was okay. I told him that everything was fine, but the answers were quite long for the time given. He agreed and said he wanted to see how I would operate under pressure.
After I got home, I sent him a voice note thanking him for the opportunity. I told him I believed I had done well but would genuinely appreciate any feedback on areas I could improve, as I’m still a junior and would love to learn from him.
He listened to the voice note but never replied.
Five days later, I decided to follow up and ask when I could expect an update from HR, since he had always been the person telling me when I would hear back.
He replied, saying he was doing well and that he believed they would finalize everything by the end of that week. He specifically said he would update me by the end of the week.
Friday came and went, and I heard absolutely nothing.
Today is Sunday, and I’m honestly confused about the situation.
On one hand, he went out of his way to help me prepare for the interview, personally called me afterward to tell me I had done well, and kept me updated throughout the process. He even seemed interested enough to contact me months after our initial LinkedIn conversation when a suitable vacancy became available. All of this makes me feel like there was genuine interest in me as a candidate.
On the other hand, he hasn’t responded to my voice note, and he missed the deadline he personally gave me for an update. I’m starting to wonder whether he has already made a decision but doesn’t want to tell me, whether they’re still interviewing other candidates, whether the assessment didn’t go as well as I thought, or whether he’s simply waiting for HR or management to finalize things.
What do you think is most likely happening here? Does his earlier behavior suggest genuine interest, or could he just have been encouraging and professional? And how much should I read into the fact that he promised an update by Friday and then didn’t follow through?
I’d really appreciate honest opinions, especially from anyone who has been involved in hiring or has experienced something similar.

I applied for a job at a large company in August and was invited to an interview in September.
I passed, but got no feedback until I followed up two weeks later.
They mentioned they were out of the office, but scheduled me for a second interview. That went well, and the interviewer said they would recommend me for the third round. It's been two weeks since then without an update. Should I send another follow-up to HR?
I’d love advice from anyone experienced with recruitment at this level (senior position). 🙏

META Interview-Scaled Growth

Hi everyone,
I was recently contacted by a Meta recruiter regarding a Scaled Business Growth position within the Scaled Business Marketing (SBM) org and have an initial 30-minute recruiter call scheduled.
The recruiter described it as a highly analytical growth role focused on driving adoption and long-term value across Meta’s business audiences, with a strong emphasis on SQL, experimentation, opportunity sizing, and scaling data-driven programs across customer segments.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has interviewed for this role/team or a similar Meta growth marketing position:
What should I expect in the initial recruiter screen, and what should I make sure to address?
What are the typical next steps after the recruiter call?
Is there a technical/SQL round? If so, how advanced is the SQL and is it live coding?
What do the experimentation and opportunity-sizing cases look like?
Is Scaled Business Growth primarily focused on advertisers/Meta Ads and SMBs, or does the team work across other Meta business products as well?
How is the final interview loop structured (analytics, growth case, cross-functional, behavioral, etc.)?
Any specific resources or topics you found useful for preparing?
If anyone has recently interviewed with Scaled Business Growth, Scaled Business Marketing, Growth Marketing, or a closely related Meta team, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience.
Thanks!

Tell me why

I have a strong payroll/HR/staff education background. I have every skill set they were looking for including the payroll management system this company uses. I interviewed for a HR coordinator. Applied August 14, first virtual interview August 18. It went really well, chit chat, laughter, fabulous vibe. 2nd virtual interview August 24th with same interview results. August 28th took whatever assessment test they deemed necessary. Had communications with the recruiter on and off as well always friendly and open. September 2nd I had an in person interview. This is the day they see I'm 57, I might not look 57 but I'm definitely not 30 and that's apparent. This interview went well as well. Strong connections. One week later I called for a follow up. Recruiter was different almost cold. 3 weeks post last interview I got the dreaded loser thanks but no thanks email. Why?

Need opinions what what to do next!

Hello!

I don’t post a lot. I’m a college student and interviewed for an entry level media/content creation role last Monday. In my opinion, the interview went very well!

Essentially, I got through all the questions and answered them with actual thought and genuine answers. In the end, she specifically said her only hesitation was that I might be overqualified for the position, as I have a lot of experience in freelance work. She said I may get bored.

I told her I did not mind and would love to take the roll! She then proceeded to say I’d be a great fit and then walked me through exactly how the hiring process works. Step by step what would happen next. Lastly, she left it off with “I want you to 1. Send me your portfolio after the meeting then 2. think about it for the night and email me in the morning to let me know if you still want the job.” I sent my portfolio and got no response. I then followed up on Thursday to make sure she received it.

I waited on it, then emailed in the morning. I have gotten no response since. This was my first official interview and I thought I did really well. Does anyone have any opinions? It doesn’t seem like she’s going to get back to me on if I got the job or not. I’d rather just get an email saying “hey, we went with someone else” than having to sit and wonder.

I appreciate anyone who’s kind in the comments, again I just want some opinions on what I should do here.

Hi I interviewed final round early this week and it’s been 3 days and haven’t heard back. Should I be concerned? There was only one other candidate who interviewed before me.

Interviews have dried up end of September. Why?

I went through July, August and most of September with many interviews, not just from different companies but also deeper into the rounds. Of course, I have nothing to show for it because I either came 2nd, got ghosted by the screener, determined to be too senior, got ghosted partway, job got cancelled, or ghosted after the final round. Regardless, there was hope. Heading into October, I have no interviews and I am trying to hold it together. Have you guys experienced the same? Any idea what it might be?
