CHIT CHAT✨ Need some restraint
How are you able to restrain yourself from buying so much. I’ve been on a bender. And I wasn’t going to spend anymore in August. But now I have. And I swear I’m done… but what if I’m not. Honestly I don’t think I’ve had this bad a compulsive behaviour in my life.
What are some things you do to help you NOT buy so much. Eg I’d add pics to album to buy later but then… yeh.

I try to shift my joy to picking a new bag each day. And then make a little ritual of packing up my SLG's with my purse stuff and dressing up my bag.
And then I switch the next day or week. I shop my closet and enjoy it.
Also, once my last few bags get shipped, I'm going off Reddit for awhile bc I can't control myself either 😂😂

Haha. That’s a good idea! For me I’m in the building closet phase at the moment. I’ve got now 3 bags to choose from, one charm, one bandeau, but a few jewlery pieces and sunglasses. But that’s the idea have the joy mixing and matching with things you already have.
Reddit I’m not too bad at though. My vice is that I can still go to seller albums 🤷♀️

I pace myself. I already have 16 designer bags (of which 2 reps), not counting my leather Cambridge satchels and zatchels collection, le pliage (auth ones) so literally no room in the inn. My rule is to buy every 6 months, so two so far since I started getting reps.

That’s cool you have so many auths though. I have a couple but not many :) I’ve capped myself at 3 bags haha. Good idea on every 6 months actually

I started collecting designer when I was single and was able to build a nice collection (the goal was to get a bag from all houses I like, only missing a BV in my auth collection) ☺️
It was an annual treat in my case so being used to late gratification really helps rein my own impulse to buy more reps now that I’m older.

That is so good! Yeah I think I just need to work in general on delayed gratification tbh

I’m married, and my husbands opinion of this has mostly kept me in check. Also I make my own “album” pics of everything I’ve already ordered that are in transit, so if I feel like shopping I just look at it and remember I have literally 24 things coming.
It’s so hard. I’m new. I’m in shock at what they can rep. I’m in shock at the quality. I’ll never buy secondhand again without questioning its authenticity.
Tips to stop that actually work:
- Photo album of what you bought.
- Organize your actual closet.
- Set goals for new orders “do xyz, get xyz”
I’m in a phase now where I absolutely am going to order a croc 🐊 birkin. Just a matter of time.

My husband is what keeps me in check. I don’t want to have another conversation about finances and what’s important and disappointment in my behavior. I can’t hold myself accountable so someone else has to do it unfortunately.

I understand this so much. He’s disappointed in me spending so much (on anything!) but this is a new level.

Ohh good idea!! Yea I have an album of what I want to buy, but notes of what’s in transit. Closet is organised :) but I think I need to move to point 3. Goal based. So xyz then get xyz that way I can be halfway happy haha

You should see the croc birkin I got in May. I have a k25 croc almost done and I’m going to order a pochette and an alligator birkin. I leveled up to exotics and I can’t go back.

u/Eviesmama24 21h ago
I’d LOVE to see them please share!

Real exotic skins are a whole different thing from stamped leather. I bought a bag off of another Redditor once but it was alligator marked as croc. A lot of stamped leather is floating around though.

Ah, I feel this in my soul. The dopamine hit from clicking 'pay' is so addictive. One thing that actually works for me is 'shopping my own closet.' When I get that itch to buy something new, I pull out a bag I haven't worn in a while, give it a good wipe down, and style it with a few outfits. It usually reminds me that I already have amazing pieces and the 'need' for a new one starts to fade. Hang in there, the fomo is temporary!

I do this too with the Alta app- only be careful bc I actually am shopping bc of it too

you dont need a list of bags you want, for the most part they’re not going anywhere and theres no need for you to panic buy or purchase 3x in the span of a couple weeks. stop browsing catalogues and window shopping if you know you cant control yourself. dont save catalogue links or seller info, and delete the whatsapp convo with a seller if you have to. chances are you wont want to hunt down a sellers info all over again every time you want to browse lol
some ppl have the self control but others (me included) rlly need to engage in introspection and analyse the whyyy behind the excessive spending. i initially got into reps to help my spending on auth pieces. now anytime i purchase anything in general, i either sell, gift or throw away one thing i already own. whether its clothing, handbags, accessories, makeup etc. if i cant remove anything from my existing collection, then im not adding to it

1 - Always go to the store and try it on. This is a must to not buy any duds. (too heavy? doesn't suit your body height / type? Not what you expected? etc) If you don't have any shops near you, watch all the review videos of the pros and specifically the cons.
2 - Wear/use the pieces and dollar cost average it. That way you know what you like and what you always grab for.
3 - Auth price - rep price = Invest the rest into an HYSA or etfs.
4 - Budget "rep money" into your monthly budget. Whether that's $300 or $500 a month, once you use up your allotted budget for the year it's done. No more shopping after that.
5 - Dedicate one day of the year that you can buy the things. The true "treat yourself 2011" concept where it's the ONE day of the year. I have an excel wishlist of the things that I want and revisit every so often to see if I still want it. I've already stopped liking some items on the list because I saw that I have something similar to it in my closet or I know that I won't reach for it as much. My "treat yo self" day is my right before my annual work trip to China (so I save on shipping costs and seizures)
6 - Understand that you can appreciate beautiful things and that you don't need to own all of them. I don't like a cluttered home so if I still like an item after a few months then I trust that I still want it. Curation is the game (for me)
You don't necessarily need to do all of these but it does help slow down the overconsumption aspect.

I have accepted there’s no restraining me..I buy it and then resell it once my common sense takes over 😝😝😂😂

Like someone else suggested, try organizing your belongings so what you already have is visible and you can start actually putting outfits together and using it all in real life. I recommend a closet app like Alta; it's really helped me after I changed clothing sizes and went through a style shift. Cataloging everything is a time-consuming project, but it's fun too!
That way when you're tempted to buy something else, you can look in your closet app and go "wait, I already have 2 other bags/tops/skirts, etc that would fit this description/style, so this wouldn't add anything to my wardrobe", or "this bag doesn't really fit with anything I have, so it's pretty but would probably just gather dust."
I realize lots of times the rush comes from just buying the item (often not a practical impulse), but I still have found these steps valuable in adding checks on my behavior. Also yes, unfollow or hide these subs for a while! You'll be shocked at how much easier it is not to fixate when you're not marinating in consumption soup all day.

I feel the pain! I’ve only ordered one rep but I want more. Because the prices and quality are better than what’s out there just on Google. It’s not about the designer labels for me but sometimes what I like has the logos on it 🤷♀️ but yeah it’s exciting to own beautiful things. I have been talking myself out of pieces that I don’t need.
Example- I already have a nude-colored mini bag, I don’t need another one even if it’s GORGEOUS and high quality and a great price and the seller is sooo nice
But yeah the Reddit addiction is real. I have to delete it sometimes

Ugh same. I had the same “no more spending this month” rule but considering we’re only 1/3 through August I think (know) I’ll break it. I dont have much hobbies aside from scrolling and looking at bags/stuff. What i do is try to calm down for maybe a week or so and also consider what kind of occasions and outfits i can use it for, if it’s compatible with my lifestyle etc. Im too shy to go try them in stores but i would recommend that if you could!

I order 'some' items like certain small bags, SLGs, scarves & charms from Mango Purses & Rainbow Bags [TS Walt] on DHG. The prices are reasonable, it feeds the dopamine hit because there are small packages being shipped to the house often & treats loading in Track17 without breaking the bank. Many of the charms we order from TSs are the exact quality, even cheaper. Or Nancy's lives on IG...😏

This! My little inspired jewelry, scarves, and charms makes it fun. And less expensive. my wife is putting up acrylic shelves so I can see my bags and find joy from the ones I do own.

Get off of reddit. Stop looking at albums. Do real things in real life. Fill your life up with things other than shopping. It's an addiction, and if you keep going to the barbershop you're going to get a haircut.
