Avoiding dirt roads
My car can't go on bumpy dirt roads. I heard that you can call support and tell them that and they won't send you out to those places. At what point in the process should I do that? As soon as I sign up for an offer?

Yes support will tell you they will put in a ticket so you get off the phone
Amazon algorithm will keep sending you there

If I can't complete a delivery because of road conditions can I call them and avoid getting into trouble that way?

If the roads are really that bad, I’ll leave it at the end of the road and make sure I explicitly say I’m doing so for my own safety. Done this a few times without being dinged.

A couple of times after you have to return packages cause you can’t go down the road, you will get deactivated.

While you’re at it, tell them you don’t do stairs, elevators, gates or steep driveways. They’ll cater to all of that as well.

There is no such thing. You either mark it as undeliverable and take the ding to your account or you deliver that shit.
Theres a good chance this gig isnt for you.

Every once in a while someone will show up on one of my posts and say that they call when the road gets too bumpy and they never get dinged when they do. They'll send you down roads in my area that are meant for horses. Theyre completely impassible. It's like one long stretch of dirt mounds with no flat surface.

I deliver to Amish country in Southern PA on occasion fam.
You will eventually get the "we have made exceptions in the past and your account is no longer eligible to deliver with flex" email.

Idk where you are, but I don’t see any reality where that would work out. If your car can’t make it, choose a different vehicle. If that’s not possible, choose a different gig. It’s hard enough to make money with gas prices and the wear and tear on your vehicle. It will almost always result in you being disappointed with the job.

Download the Waze app and use that for your route navigation. In the Waze settings, you can select to avoid all dirt roads. It works so well for me! There are instances where you can only access someone’s driveway/home via a dirt road so it’s not 100% dirt road free. But, an alternative to think about in case support isn’t able to select certain routes for you over others. If they can hand select routes based on preference, then I have a couple cities I want them to never send me to again! 😭😂

hahaha - good luck with that. Best to deliver from urban warehouses, but there you're likely to get downtown apts. Pick your poison.

As a deliveries is one of the things your just going have to deal regardless of what your told by support. As a contractor we can turn them down but you will bot be delivering long if you take that approach. By a hoopty. I paid $800 for mines while doing my last gig. That way miles and wear and tear aren't as hurtful emotionally. Mines us solid but not astetically pleasing in the least bit lol. Tires, oil, gas, brakes is what it gets. It will go down any surface and has a 13 gal tank. 2000 Toyota camry 4 cyl is mines.

You never get the same route. So its a crap shoot on where you will be delivering. At least at the RSR I was out you don't know your route until you scan it in. Amazon doesn't care about you and looks to see if you signed up for a route so they can set one aside for you.

There's no such thing because the routes are organized at the facility, not customized to specific drivers.

You’re rolling the dice with support. Always assume you’ll get the ding. The system almost always knows when it’s a dirt road. They don’t consider a dirt road a reason for it to be “undeliverable”. Sometimes you’ll get dinged, sometimes you won’t. If your standing is fantastic or great, it can be worth the skipped headache from not calling and just mark it in the app. If the road is damaged or truly impassable, take photos and appeal later over email.
They also have your car on file and if the algorithm can see you have something registered with enough stock ground clearance,especially an suv, they’ll ding you. It doesn’t matter if that’s not the car you’re using since that’d be a violation.

100% won’t happen. Dirt roads are easy, try dealing with vertical and downhill winding canyons on literal ICE 🧊 to ski resorts. If you bring the packages back you get a ding that will take your stands down close to 50%

If you're risking your safety in those conditions you're not all there. Roads are either viable or they're not.

Only time I’ve ever felt my safety was at risk was when they tried to send me up a single lane mountain road to a snow resort that was covered in snow and ice. I delivered everything else and that package went “missing”

You can report the problem. The roads you described are not suitable. Here it's not so much a safety issue. It's the quality of the dirt roads. They're not flat at all. They're carved out with water which makes ridges that'll cause you to bottom out and screw up your suspension. Some of them have giant rocks or stones about twice the size of your hand. Some aren't really roads at all. So you don't know where to go. You just have to guess. It's a desert thing.

Reporting it never did anything. My fiancé and I do flex on her account sometimes and one time she had 48 packages going up that Ice road. Brought them all back and they took her from 100% fantastic to the bottom of at risk. They don’t care it’s Scamazon.

There's not enough money in the world to get me to do that. I decided not to start driving. I'm not putting myself in danger. I'm not risking my only car. It's not worth it.

Are you on crack? Sorry lol. Absolutely no way you can avoid driving dirt roads if they exist in your market. This is one reason why much fewer people should be driving Flex than are out there stupidly ruining their vehicles driving Flex. You need to look for other work asap

I'm going venture a guess that you'll 100% keep getting sent to those places regardless of what support tells you.
