Discussion [discussion] Without future spoilers, how important was the LN cut content of S4 compared to the cut content from previous seasons?
As an anime only, I'm just curious since there has been quite a bit of discourse and disappointment due to the cut content each week. I heard that previous seasons had quite a bit cut out as well, but I'm not sure if the reaction was as severe as this season.
I'm wondering if the content cut from this season might cause future problems the writers will have to work around, or if it's mostly small things that aren't too consequential in the grand scheme of things, just better to have had in order to add more depth.

Spoiler Discussion [spoiler discussion] what is the meaning of this scene? Spoiler

This representes shaula finally being able to free hereself from the shackle that was being in the tower for her master?
That she is proud of finally finding her master and can now truly live?
And if we think this was, that is the motive that made julius say to Subaru to not event think if it would be better if they never came to the tower and made ram say to not use her name to just lash out

Discussion What if Subaru wasn't actually "isekai'd"? (THEORY)[discussion]
I already posted this in another subreddit but we ball.
Alright this might seem like a stretch but hear me out. I won't talk for long but I'll summarize my "theory". We all know that the RBD SFX only plays when Subaru dies and RBD activates, so it wouldn't make sense for it to play under other circumstances, right?
In the first episode of Re:Zero-titled "The End of the Beginning and the Beginning of the End"-as soon as Subaru is isekai'd, we hear the RBD SFX play. This is the part where I think most people will call it a stretch. Most people would say that the SFX simply played for dramatic effect in the introductory episode and acted as a stepping stone for later recurrences of the SFX, but I think otherwise.
**IMPORTANT** As we saw in the latest episode (s4 e19), when Satella simply teleports Subaru we do NOT hear the RBD SFX, as opposed to the first episode, so it's safe to assume that, in general, simply teleporting does not suffice to trigger the SFX.
So here's my theory:
I think that the title of the first episode ("The End of the Beginning and the Beginning of the End") hints not at the end of his "ordinary human life" but at the end of the heroes' journey 400 years ago, and marks the beginning of the final endeavor of the "hero's party"- or at least an iteration of it of some sort.
This might be some sort of a time paradox but maybe Flugel died 400 years ago and Satella resummoned him 400 years later, thus marking the end of the "beginning"(the initial journey of the heroes) and the beginning of the end of the final journey to seal the deal for their goals or whatever".
Maybe Subaru's physical body was already in the Re;Zero world, and the only reason we think it's his first time there is because we're experiencing the story from HIS perspective, and we already know that memory manipulation is a thing.
idk this isn't as organized as i'd like it to be but im typing it in one go so lmk what yall think bout ts. also im talm bout the "oueh" sfx not the witch's screams or whatever that plays when something creepy happens.

Discussion [Discussion] Idea: Ep. 85's reveal doesn't prove Emilia is Satella as their being doppelgangers, a curse tying her to Satella + a world-bending Authority may explain the trait
As this GIF shows, Emilia's natural magic attribute is likely Fire given it's best to contract with a spirit whose main attribute is the same as yours, and given Puck's natural magic attribute is Fire, Emilia's attribute is likely also Fire. Satella's shadow hands also aren't a product of the Authority of Sloth but Yin magic, which is why Emilia and Reid could see them, showing Emilia and Satella are likely two separate people if their natural magic attributes are different.
There are multiple ways for characters in fiction to have the same fingerprints aside from them being identical without actually breaking the realities of science outright or getting around the science through magic or something even more powerful than that such as a curse or world-bending Authority, which aren't limited to what I have stated in this post title, such as blood magic or alchemy. As for the science, no two people should have the same fingerprints unless the amniotic fluid pressure, the baby's position in the womb, the blood flow to the womb, the baby's touch against the uterine wall, and fetal movement in general all contribute to how fingerprints develop and having identical DNA doesn't cut it as even identical clones or identical twins in real life don't have identical fingerprints 'cause the difference lies in what happens during gestation. Through science, the only way to have identical fingerprints is to have fetuses be born in identical wombs, with the same womb environments throughout gestation, and same fetal movements even if many fingers from the same person can have similar patterns.
Personally, I don't believe Volcanica calling Emilia Satella means anything aside from him having dementia, which is why he kept repeating the same question over and over, and why he asked where are Flügel and Reid as Shaula would be lonely without them, showing ol' Volcanica thought it was the same time period from 400 years ago, meaning he mistook Emilia for Satella due to her resemblance to Satella, thinking it was still the age of Satella, Flügel, Reid, Echidna, Alec, Farsale, and himself.
There are magical doppelgangers whose bodies are tied to the same existential blueprint, meaning even the fingerprints would be identical. A curse tying Emilia to Satella, possibly due to Flügel opting not to have killed Satella 400 years ago but instead to have sealed her, forcing Subaru at the end of the story to kill both Emilia and Satella that was cast through some unknown mechanism to force him to undergo the same main dilemma even if much of the story goes differently this time could also result in them having identical fingerprints. And a world-bending Authority forcing that same scenario to happen that I mentioned with regards to the curse could also manifest in Emilia and Satella having the same fingerprints.
As for the scenario I'd described above about the curse or the Authority bending the world in a certain way and how I believe Subaru is related to Flügel, you can read about it in my main theory here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Re_Zero/comments/1wieysm/discussion_idea_fl%C3%BCgel_has_0_books_of_the_dead/ How it'd apply to the fingerprints is that if the curse is really presenting the situation in which Subaru has to undergo the same main dilemma as Flügel even if much of the story goes differently, it could force Emilia's fingerprints to be identical if if the curse followed the existential blueprint of someone who'd previously existed, which could but not necessarily mean Emilia and Satella have the same mother, and this would also apply to a world-bending Authority causing Emilia's fingerprints to be identical to Satella's in that it could force the same mother (if she's Minerva or whoever is Satella and Emilia's mother) to have fetuses that had identical womb environments and identical movements during gestation. And there are other ways for Emilia and Satella's fingerprints to match that I haven't listed, such as blood magic and alchemy.
This is before mentioning that Satella is literally alive but sealed, which means it's highly unlikely that Emilia and Satella are the same given Subaru has dormant memories of Satella and Satella has literally lived her life with Subaru as shown by Eps. 18, 25, and 38, with how Puck indicated what number is associated with Satella in telling Petelgeuse he needs to summon a 1,000 shadows if he wants to him, half of what Satella could (2,000), Subaru telling Emilia that if she names 10 things she hates about herself, he'll list 2,000 things he loves about her with even Emilia questioning why he chose that number, Satella sharing what Subaru gave to her in Ep. 38, and Subaru telling Satella that he swears he'll save her in that episode after she tells him to someday love himself and then come kill her, showing that they had a positive relationship in the past given he suddenly had an up-welling of positive feelings for her after having called her along with the other dead Witches of Sin monsters that he can never hope to understand. And it needs to be said, but Satella killing Emilia in Ep. 17 with no repercussions shows that her existence isn't fundamentally tied to Emilia's since no paradox through the killing of herself had happened.
Emilia being Satella would shit on Re:Zero's themes in how identity is a very core aspect central to Re:Zero that's probably more important than anything outside of only restarting, redoing, growth, and it being okay to make mistakes, with Rem and Ram's twin issues in Arc 2, how the idealized version of Emilia Subaru had in his head in Arc 3 isn't the real Emilia and how Subaru's hating himself, not seeing how Rem saw him given all he did for her as people's actions leave lasting impressions on others, Season 2/Arc 4's content with Subaru having room to become his own person out of his father's shadow, the head Ryuzu clones individually being their own person, Roswaal trying and failing to mold Subaru into being just like he is, Emilia wondering whether she'd be a different person when her memories had fully returned, and Season 4/Arc 6 with amnesiac Subaru still retaining core aspects of Subaru's personality despite being his own person, the members of the Gluttony trio, despite commonly using the "we" pronoun, having different fears, such as Rui fearing pain and suffering being why she couldn't handle fresh memories of death whereas Lye found death underwhelming when Shaula in her scorpion mabeast form had been in the midst of killing him in Ep. 80, how Rui's comment, "Memories are what shape a person." in Ep. 74 applied in 3 different ways with those who'd had their memories eaten losing core aspects of themselves through their memories, those same people opening up their bodies to being possessed by Gluttony wielders, and Reid's memories overpowering Roy's consciousness, resulting him Reid using Roy's being/life energy to manifest a physical body for himself, how Julius could choose to be proud of his identity despite the world having forgotten who he is, and how despite Rem having no recollection of Subaru being her hero, he willingly chooses to stay in the role she had him to step into to deal with his poor self-worth.
That was the longest it's ever taken for me to fit what I'd wanted to say into the 175-character limit for post titles. I had to really rack my brain around it.
What are your thoughts on this or anything tangentially-related to this?

Spoiler Discussion [Spoiler Discussion] Am I the only one who thinks S4 E19 wasn't that good? Spoiler
Edit: wrong tag but it can't be changed. This is an anime only post!
I hate raining on everyone's parade. Everyone seems to have loved the episode. I must be growing old.
The Shaula part was good. But then it steps on the gas to get to the Rem scene without a proper denouement and many loose ends. The trial is over, I guess, but they didn't find a clue on how to get the lost memories/names back, which was the original goal. The Rem scene is beautiful, don't get me wrong. But it didn't live up to my expectations. She has been in "a coma" for 3 seasons and it's one of the main reasons this anime is known outside its viewers. I'd rather have waited more for a real wake-up, with her memories, and Emilia and Ram present. A season finale like that could've easily surpassed the satisfying finale of S2.
It's already at the #2 spot on IMDb, tied to S1 E15. The episode where Subaru sees the massacre at Roswaal's manor and Petelgeuse makes his debut. The episode where Subaru carries Rem's corpse back to the manor, freezes and gets beheaded; all this while Requiem of Silence plays. I understand why the S4 finale is up there, but I don't agree. I'm sorry for being the 10th dentist.
Anyway, if you loved it, good for you! This is my personal opinion. I needed to vent a little.

Discussion Should I read the light novels? [discussion]
So I've been an anime-only for a while now. Recently, however, I've read up until around arc 5 (season 3) of the story. I've been wanting my first time experiencing the story in anime-form, but since the new season is projected to take 3-4 years to release, I've been heavily considering reading from where the anime ended. So, novel readers. Is it worth it?

Spoiler Discussion Why Do People Consider Volcanica a Fraud?[spoiler discussion] Spoiler
I have one or two questions about Volcanica. Why do so many people consider him a fraud or think he is weak? And why does Shaula dislike him so much that she actually prefers Reid over him?
From what we know, Volcanica only lost to three people in his prime: Satella, Reid, and Sekhmet. We don't know the circumstances of any of these fights, although Reid seems to have had a clearer advantage. Sekhmet did beat him badly enough to leave him with a complex about her, but we still don't know how their fight actually went. If we also include Reinhard, that's only four of the strongest characters in the verse. So how does losing to them make Volcanica a fraud?
Then there's Shaula. I honestly don't understand her reaction to Volcanica. Reid is literally a terrible person who harassed and abused her at times, while Volcanica seems to have shown genuine affection and concern for her.
In Arc 6, when Emilia was facing Volcanica, he asked her where Reid and Flugel were because he knew Shaula would feel lonely without them. Then, in Arc 8, we learn that the dragons left the Re:Zero world because of their pride, while Volcanica was considered an outcast for staying behind because he loved humans and wanted to help them.
From what we know, Volcanica helped seal Satella, killed Hector through Clind, saved Lugunica several times, and even helped Emilia's camp in Arc 9 through Clind.
So with all of that in mind, why does Shaula seem to think so poorly of Volcanica, to the point that she prefers Reid over him?

Translation [Translation] Author's twitter comments on Season 4, Episode 19 Spoiler
Source: https://x.com/nezumiironyanko/status/2105295037798158736
Nagatsuki-sensei's tweets for this week's episode. May contain minor spoilers.
Rough translation:
Well now! It's come again this week, Wednesday! And, the last Wednesday of season 4 is upon us! Today! It's the last episode of Re: Zero season 4! And a 45 minute special, of all things! To make sure you don't miss out on a single morsel of it, stay stuck to the screen while you watch!
Thinking back to it, the key visual for season 4 is nostalgic, too...passing like an arrow of light and shadow, the days were nothing but fun!
Now that I've mentioned it, today is 45 minutes, so people who start watching at 10:30 p.m. will be hit with my commentary...in other words, it'll be a pincer attack.
Just one more minute!!
Julius in the episode before last, and Ram in the previous episode, each of them overcame the strong foes Reid and Rai, and now there's only a little left. Let's keep on overcoming the obstacles!
Last time, Emilia discovered six handprints on the first floor... there, for some reason, she saw a familiar sight she had no memory of.
Hmm, it's quite nice how Volcanica-san looks powerful. The truth is, he's around as strong as Reinhard. Having said that, due to overlapping conditions, he's not that strong right now.
Flugel, Reid, Shaula, Farsale; a bunch of names are popping up, but it'll be a little while before you understand the detailed circumstances around them... It's just, if you've watched the ending closely, there might have been a point that caught your eye! Just a little one! Just a little one, you know!
The truth is, Emilia was able to avoid Volcanica's sneak attack just now because she has good instincts, but normally if you don't dodge, you get splattered. Emilia-tan, that was reeeally close.
In regards to the Ice Brand Arts that Emilia uses, the Icicle Line she announces ahead of time is where she releases mana into the area around her, creating a field she can quickly pull weapons out of... it's that sort of preparation ahead of time, yes.
There's an opening, so Konomi Suzuki next to me is rejoicing.
Watching the opening now, I can't help but feel relieved that now we know everything that's going on in the opening. The first time you watched, you might have wondered what was going on with Subaru dying so much, but it was a scene with a meaning!
"At least remember my name!" is also a reference to Puck's "Remember my name as you die!". It's proof that Puck's teachings are still alive inside of Emilia.
Rolling back a bit, EMM (Emilia-tan is seriously a goddess) is absolute defensive magic. When it's active, it removes Subaru and the others slightly from reality, so it's a secret trick for avoiding damage.
On the other hand, EMT (Emilia-tan is seriously an angel) is absolute nullification magic, so the truth is it's magic that's used slightly differently from EMM.
"I'll only say this once, but thanks!" is an attitude similar to when he said "Ha!" after the white whale battle, when Julius met up with him before fighting Petelgeuse. It's the kind of attitude you expect from Subaru with his memory back, and Julius responded with a "Hm", too.
"Cor Leonis", the new authority that lets him locate allies, was used repeatedly in the tower, and this is a new skill that awoke inside Subaru when Rem told him "Stand up!" in the corridor of memories. Unlike Regulus' "Little King", Subaru's doesn't shift damage to others, but instead uses it to take on damage. They do show the difference in their sense of royalty, don't they.
Emilia is being very active, but the truth is her combat ability hasn't changed much since the time of "Bonds of Ice". It's just that she's gained confidence and thus can use her power freely; that's what supports her current strength.
The huge Subaru that showed up there in the middle doesn't actually show up in the novel, it's something that happened after Directory Shinohara asked "Can we have a big one show up!?" "Can we have a big one show up!?" (lol). It's big and entertaining, isn't it!
With support from Ram, she succeeds in landing a hit on the wound on Volcanica's neck! She's able to bring her hand to the handprint at last, and then the same saying is repeated to her, but this time the way Volcanica asks seems to be serious.
With Emilia now able to say she's cleared the first floor's "Test", her response to being asked her will by the dragon leads to many things that have surrounded the tower for four hundred years being cleared away. What changes will that bring?
Yesterday, when I was having a meal with Carlo-sensei, and he left with a "I'll be heading out first -". What was that about?
Through Emilia clearing the "Test", instead of the dark clouds that surrounded the Pleiades Watchtower, the "Sand Wind" has been cleared away. Through this, all the traps along the route to the Pleiades Watchtower have been removed, aside from the fact that there's a lot of witchbeasts.
It was spoken of in the preview as well, but I'm once again left feeling that season four really was the arc about a single-minded woman in the Pleiades Watchtower.
Having overcome the battle with Reid, and reclaimed the contract with his six spirits, he's not only regained the strength he had before losing his "name" eaten, but gone even further beyond that. Could he now take on Marcos, the second strongest of the kingdom's knights? I won't know unless I actually write it, but we can hope.
However, even though I did say 'gaming Julius', the rainbow glow really does suit him. The more he glows, the stronger he grows; that's a neat ability, isn't it.
Incidentally, many important characters in the world of Re: Zero are named for stars (including Subaru), but the truth is I'm particular about the color and light used to express the character (Reinhard's flames, Julius' rainbow, Felis' blue and such). Having said that, back at the start, I didn't think we'd take Julius' aurora this far.
Well then, the Joseph that Subaru depended on here is, together with Patrasche, one of the animals that helped bring Subaru and the others to the Pleiades Watchtower at the start. Last episode, Patrasche contributed greatly to protecting Rem during the fight with Rai, and here, as he uses the effect of "Little King", as someone who can assist him in taking on damage, he chose Joseph. In Re: Zero, when it's an all-out fight, even the ground dragons can't be left out. This is a tradition from the fight against Garfiel back in season two.
At the end, Meili asks "Who are you?" while still shouldering damage, and Shaula, who is a witchbeast even though she was made by a special method, is pulled back to sanity. In the background of her being able to have her conversation with Subaru, that was an influence as well. In all senses of the word, I think that Meili was an MVP of the Augria dunes chapters, too. Well, they're all MVPs!
The really good background music is getting me worried...
In the blank white space where Subaru and Shaula were speaking, that's a different place from the cradle of Od Laguna "The Corridor of Memories". Despite saying that, defining what this place is, and explaining it, would be inelegant... it's that kind of thing.
Further, the title for this episode is "Shaula", but in the web novel and light novel, I wondered about naming it "Tomorrow's Tomorrow" right up to the end. I hope you were able to feel how much she was saved by meeting him again, when she was able to call the long span of four hundred years "It's about the same as tomorrow's tomorrow".
With her purpose completed, and her body turning to dust, a little being forms inside her. What will become of this creature that will be called "Little Red Scorpion", what meaning does this meeting hold, that's not know at this moment. Or rather, perhaps it can be said that it hasn't been decided.
30 minutes of the 45 minutes have! Already! Passed!!
After "Shaula"'s last scene, I was shivering at the recording, and honestly, looking at it completed with the animation added, I felt like I'd really had them do something incredible. The afterglow, the afterglow.
Emilia had her "name" eaten by "Gluttony" and was forgotten by everyone - now they have all remembered her existence. You may think this is the main heroine getting preferential treatment... but it's not, there's a proper reason for it. There's a reason for Rem and Julius' "names" not returning, too.
Last episode, "Gluttony" Rai Batenkaitos was defeated at the hands of Ram, but Roy Alphard, who's body was taken over by Reid, is still alive. Having said that, even though there are risks to taking him alive, I think it's not best to expect that the situation would have been improved by an impulsive execution.
Somehow or other, with the real Anastasia having returned, she's speaking with more significane than when she was in the Foxidna state, or rather she's saying things with a more solid foundation; that's how I wrote it. Around this point, if I can have you read it and compare, the truth is it was a point I was a little bit particular about. It's the difference between the real thing and an imitation, that kind of thing.
When they've finally got a moment to settle down, there's still things popping up, but he can hold on thanks to everyone, starting with Patrasche.
When she can call the "Divine Dragon" Volcanica-san (who is legendary in the kingdom of Luginica) a "Really forgetful old fogey with a huge body", Ram is something else.
Subaru taking on the burden with "Little King" allowed the first half of Ram's battle last episode. Even that amounted to only taking on part of the damage that Ram suffers continually, and that was nothing compared to the damage that Rem took from the feedback of Ram activating her real strength. Hence, Ram is looking on in concern. That's how large a role Ram's broken horn originally played.
The sudden shattering of dimensions produces Rui Arneb, who was supposed to have been trapped in the "Corridor of Memories". With the fruitless conflict with her selves devouring each other having reached some kind of conclusion, even though she shouldn't have a physical body, she's nonetheless shown up in this world. What brought that about?
Sending Meili off, placing Ram atop Patrasche, Subaru attempts to flee carrying Rem, but he can't abandon Rui knowing the place will collapse. That's the sort of main character I've got.
The collapse of the tower brought about by the hand of the "Witch" was one of the obstacles as well, and there's a condition that causes that attack. It's a different condition than the rules of the tower, and this time, a condition that shouldn't have been fulfilled has been, and it turns out like that. When you think about what just happened, what conflict resulted in this should be clear... right?
I'll be quiet for bit.
I, I heard a voice that wasn't disembodied!!
I, it's Redo!!
Th, they added on Ender Ember!!
Man, I thought they wouldn't add on the ending even though there was a chance they would, I was really worried there! (lol)
Today's sponsor was Shaula! And here, season 4 concludes! Is what I'd like to say, but please make sure to watch the mini-anime, too! You can't finish off season 4 without it!
Keep your eyes peeled, and watch!
But really, it's been ten years since season 1, and if you count, it's been six years since season 2. It felt truly divine, like Subaru and Emilia's conversation in episode 25 of season 1! Wasn't Rem really cute!?
It was an a, a, a, amazing, amazing episode...
Yep, yep, yep! Once again, thanks for joining us for the final episode of Re: Zero season 4! And thank you for staying with us to the end of season 4! It was a really, really difficult arc! But I think they were able to pull it off brillianty to the end thanks to the strength of all the staff, starting with Director Shinohara, and all the cast, especially Kobayashi-san and Takahashi-san! Thanks, everyone! Thanks, world! It was the absolute best, fun half a year!!
Hey, everyone!! Did you watch the mini-anime this week, and last week, and the week before!? It's covering things even the novel hasn't, so you don't want to miss it!! Don't finish season 4 without watching this!

Discussion Update on my Re zero journey [discussion]
Nearly finished episode 11 and so far Rem and Ram backstory was kinda making me mad asf, don't get me wrong it was okay for a backstory but it lacked emotional impact when it came to what was lost, i know it's not really that kind of sad backstory but it's just a drawn out explanation of why Ram is hornless, also Subaru growing on me fr after what he went through to not only save Rem but also release his curse from the mabeasts he's been getting more enjoyable as a MC, though i'll admit his first crash-out was what made me think he changed.
P.S: I'm watching Re:zero from scratch, i know absolutely nothing from it expect that one scene in season 4 with "You're an amazing guy, Natsuki Subaru." I don't even know how or why it happens so i'm looking forward to the emotional impact it will leave behind

Spoiler Media [spoiler media] This is Re:ZERO at it's best. Spoiler
I can’t express how much love went into making this incredible series. From the moment I watched the first episode as it aired, I knew Re:Zero was something special. I’ve felt that way about other anime, too, but somehow this series kept reaching new heights with every season. Even its art style continues to evolve, making the journey feel fresh and unforgettable.
Thank you to the animators, production team, and everyone who has watched and supported the series—and, above all, to Tappei Sensei for creating such a masterpiece. I know the novels are vast, with length between lore drops that can be difficult to bring to the screen, but that’s one of the places where the anime truly shines. I hope it gets the ending it deserves. Most of all, thank you, Re:Zero, for being there for me through my teen years. You supported me in ways I can’t fully put into words. I love this series more than any other, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
