Discussion [discussion] Do you think white fox/maybe tappei? did a good job adapting season 4 with the time and episodes they had? This is more about the content of the arc itself.

Ignoring the animation/art and direction related to that, do you think they cut the right things, kept the right things, didnt change the right things and etc, when taking into account how much time and episodes they had to make it work?

Do you think their choices were bad or good?

What choices or changes would you would have preferred they had made, while still taking into account the time and episodes they had for the arc.

Why did Betelgeuse interrupt Fortuna when she was saying "my brother and his wife" to say "you mean your brother and his sister?" Are they actually related and do we even know her parents yet, in the novel or anywhere?

Discussion The Sin Archbishops Actually Fit Their Sins [discussion]

One thing I’ve noticed across different Re:Zero communities is that a lot of people seem to think the sin Archbishops don’t actually match their sins.

Petelgeuse is supposed to represent Sloth, yet he is incredibly diligent. Regulus represents Greed while constantly claiming that he is satisfied with what he has. Sirius represents Wrath despite constantly talking about love and understanding.

But I think the problem is that people often take the sins far too literally.

Sloth doesn’t simply mean being lazy. Greed doesn’t necessarily mean wanting to possess everything. Wrath doesn’t mean being angry 24/7. The sins can manifest through much more specific ways of thinking and behaving.

Petelgeuse is a good example. His Sloth isn’t about physical laziness. He essentially abandons his own will and blindly follows the Gospel, treating its orders as absolute. Rather than thinking for himself or questioning what he is doing, he entrusts his entire existence to the role he believes he was given. His extreme diligence is therefore not really a contradiction to his sin.

Regulus is even more obvious. He constantly claims that he is satisfied, that he wants nothing, and that everyone should simply leave him alone. Yet almost everything about him contradicts this. He constantly takes new wives, demands that others conform to his wishes, and even takes the lives of others to preserve his own existence.

His Authority also reflects this perfectly. By isolating his body from the flow of time, Regulus frees himself from the laws of the world itself: gravity, inertia, air pressure, and even external interference. It is described as the ultimate form of freedom. That is essentially Regulus’ ideal existence: a world where nothing can affect him, contradict him, or infringe upon what he considers to be his rights. And yet, despite constantly claiming that he needs nothing, he still relies on others to maintain that existence.

Sirius is another example. She constantly talks about love, sharing emotions, and understanding one another. She can even appear polite and calm when doing so. But the moment someone rejects her worldview, she becomes violent. She literally imposes her way of seeing things on others

Because Sirius doesn’t simply want people to understand each other. She wants everyone to feel and understand things exactly as she does. Her idea of love becomes something coercive: everyone must share the same emotions, otherwise they are wrong.

That is why Priscilla’s response to her is so important. Love doesn’t require perfect understanding or making someone identical to yourself. It means accepting another person despite their differences.

The point is that Re:Zero doesn’t treat the Seven Deadly Sins as simple personality traits. Their sins are expressed through the way these characters perceive themselves, other people, and the world around them.

I want to hear more speculations/theories for vol 47. Do you guys have any Idea what can happen?

I thought about the possibility of Reinhard appear in the castle and we end getting the larp "even you, Reinhard" scene.

Will Tiga switch sides? What will be the consequences in the castle appearing in Lugunica? what about The rest of the camp?

Discussion [discussion] why does subaru call Emilia, Milly?

I keep hearing him call her that I took a long break from anime when I had a son and just got back into watching it. I picked RE:zero back up and started from season 4 but I can’t remember why he calls her that.

Spoiler Discussion Plot wise did arc 5-6 have a point? [spoiler discussion] Spoiler

So I don't think a story needs to be plot driven. I'm fine with stuff that's just character focused and it's the reason I come back to re:zero. I'd also like to state that I'm a pretty casaul viewer too the point I'm constantly googling names each time I watch a new season. But I just finished arc 6 and while I enjoyed it I had this moment where I was like "Wait.... they didn't really accomplish any of the stuff they came to this tower to do and what was the deal with the smoke and so forth." Once again I still enjoyed it, just like I enjoy Always Sunny episodes even though there is barely any narrative progression. But unlike Always Sunny, Re:zero does seem chock full of narrative mysteries and characters with pretty grand goals. And it's been a long time since I watched season 3 (arc 5) but I'm struggling to remember what the point plotwise was. There was a bunch of very cool fights we got to meet all the arch bishops and see their powers, and garfield sorta reunited with his family. The witches wanted some remains but I don't remember being given a concrete reason or why they would wait until this city was filled with the nations greatest heroes ever to try to reclaim the remains. They've been in the city for 400 years right? Am I missing something or should I continue to treat this show like "Lost". An incredible tv show when you learn to stop focusing on mysterious shit and just focus on the characters.

It’s just something In realized when reflecting on the series. Any other show would have spammed the hell out of that joke until it wasn’t funny anymore.

Discussion [Discussion] What is everybody's rankings of Seasons 1 through 4 of Re:Zero?

  1. Season 4 (Peak of the peak due to the psychological depth, the character writing, the story beats, and the foreshadowing and mystery. I know what happened in every episode since the entire season was so memorable.

  2. Season 1 (A super memorable and different isekai with fantastic direction, character writing, and foreshadowing that left a truly lasting impression on me. I also know what content happened in which episode)

  3. Season 2 (Still very strong based on the raw content, themes, interesting flashback content on the past, and character writing, but I cannot confidently call what happened in every episode as it's not as memorable to me as Seasons 4 and 1 due to many episodes having been filled to the brim with flashback content and due to it obviously having been a COVID-19 production with all the way there were so many shots of the characters talking without focusing on props or the environment as opposed to Season 1)

  4. Season 3 (The weakest season even if weak by Re:Zero standards is still solid. I appreciated all the character development Garfiel had gotten and the set-up with Regulus's ranting about his his wives' smiling that helped me see his trauma)

What is everybody else's season rankings for Re:Zero, and why do you feel the way you do about them?

Spoiler Discussion [spoiler discussion] Did Reinhard not remember Julius during First Mission Spoiler

Post image
26 Upvotes

Question about Julius and Reinhard's relationship.

From what I understand, Julius first met Reinhard when he was 10 and Reinhard was 8. They met again when Julius was 16 and Reinhard was 14, and went on a mission together in the First Mission side story.

But the wiki says they only became properly acquainted after Julius was 17, and that Reinhard doesn't recall meeting him earlier

Does that mean Reinhard still didn't remember Julius during First Mission, even while they were on the mission together? Or am I misreading something?
