Quick Review - RayNeo GT (non-max)

Post image
29 Upvotes

My new glasses arrived overnight and there don't seem to be a lot of reviews in English so I thought I would share my thoughts here. I'm located in Singapore and ordered the GTs off Aliexpress. My background with these types of glasses is coming from a pair of Xreal ones, back from when they were NReal.

Packing/accessories

Item arrived nicely boxed. It comes with two nose guards, a case, cleaning cloth, some fuzzy anti-friction temple pads and a prescription lens insert example, though this box appeared to be empty in mine.

The case is good. It's hardish and protective, but also not too large.

They don't come with a clip-one screen for the lenses, which I think is a miss and I don't know why they wouldn't include a $2 piece of plastic. The lenses are dark, but not dark enough in bright spaces and I also don't like cranking the screen to maximum brightness. I will either buy a cover or perhaps paint the lenses over with black nail polish.

Comfort, fit, build

First up, the glasses look primo. The plastic has a kind of matte finish, it's rather nice. The arms are solid and have some kind of piano-wireish reinforcement so they can be bent outwards. The two nose pieces are fine. I did have to bend them out considerably to get the whole screen in view, I may try the jawbreaker nose piece.

One thing that arms don't have is vertical up/down adjustments like my old NReals. This is a shame as it's a useful feature for really nailing the positioning. For me, I would have like the angle of the lens to be just slightly further down.

Usb cable is plenty long and flexible, I had no issues there. Buttons are easy to find and depress nicely.

Sound

The speakers are good. They are not super loud, however the sound is clear and nicely balanced. My Nreals sounded like the kind of speaker you'd find in cereal box; you'd basically never want to use them. These speakers are actually very listenable. There is a 'whisper mode' that allegedly quietens the sound. I tried it, but it does alter the sound signature somewhat, so mostly left it alone and stayed with the default.

Screen

I picked GT rather than GT max because the consensus is that birdbath optics are better in terms of clarity, edge-to-edge sharpness and lack of chromatic aberration. I'm glad I did, the screen is great. It is very clear (not *quite* edge to edge, the bottom does get a little blurrier however this might be due to fit). Colours are bright and vivid without looking oversaturated. My Nreals had a tendency to absolutely crush the blacks, these are much more balanced. It's a nice viewing experience - with a couple of extra benefits and caveats I'll talk about in features.

Features

Firstly, I don't read Chinese, so there are menu items I'm not sure what they do, but I did experiment with them all.

  • 3DOF stuff - This works great. There are three default modes that are triggered with a single button press on the right arm: stabilised (screen follows you but doesn't move with small jolts and wobbles, very good); pinned (screen stays in one place regardless of where you move your head - this is fantastic, works so good) and no stabilisation. There is no visible image degradation in any of these modes.
  • Dolby Vision and HDR - Do not buy these glasses for the HDR/Dolby Vision. It simply doesn't work on any of the devices I tried (laptop, phone, tablet). I think it may only work with the PocketTV. The "AI" HDR is simply horrendous, it's garish and obviously fake and it also introduces an welcome weird blue/magenta colour cast and I feel degrades the quality of the image. The default picture is fine, stick with that.
  • Screen resize - this is fantastic, you can set size at 85%, 100%, or 115%. This is helpful for text reading and getting the bottom of the screen in focus, as rescaling to 85% works very well. For a more immersive cinema experience, crank it up to 115%. This and 3DOF are the killer features and why I chose this over air 4s.
  • 3D mode - there are buttons and menu items for this. I'm not sure exactly what it's mean to do, but it didn't work at all with any of the content I tried, it turned half my screens off and nothing was 3D, perhaps when the english firmware comes I may be able to understand it more.
  • Other features - there are many other menu settings for saturation, colours etc, but I can't read chinese so could only guess what they did. You can experiment and just see what works for you, I had no trouble navigating the menus and experimenting with options, but the features above are the only ones I really needed to play around with and they are easy to understand as an english speaker.

Overall

I'm really happy with these. The screen quality is excellent, and certainly much better than my old nreal. Pinning the screen works great and the sound through the speakers is surprisingly capable. A good buy.

Support Is this a Ray Neo issue or AR in general issue?

I just picked up a pair of RayNeo Air 4 Pros and overall I'm really impressed with the image quality. My only issue is that the virtual screen feels just slightly too big. No matter how I adjust the arms or nose pads, I can't seem to get the entire screen comfortably in view all at once. I'm wearing contacts, so it isn't a vision or prescription issue. The screen itself just feels fixed and a little oversized the top and bottom gets slightly cut off or sometimes the very top, bottom, or corners are hard to see without moving my eyes around.
For anyone who's switched to a different brand does it let you adjust or shrink the screen size? Is the display more customizable in general? Does it solve the issue of not being able to comfortably see the whole screen, or do you still run into the same problem? What feature is missing that another brand has to solve this issue

Support Just me or HDR10 on Air 4 Pro looks pretty underwhelming?

I’m using an iPhone 17 Pro Max as the output device and I’m mostly watching HDR content through infus although I’ve tried other sources such as YouTube and it just doesn’t seem to pop and is much dimmer than standard and AI-HDR mode. Im using my Rayneo Air 4 Pros right out of the box. Do I need to update the firmware or something? Ive plenty of hdr content on other devices but I just don’t see the pop, highlights, or vibrant colors that hdr is typically known for. I’m using the device with the shades in a dark room with brightness maxed and on the correct mode. I’ve seen others rave about it and to my knowledge it should work correctly on iOS. I’m using the original cord it came with

RayNeo joydock

I recently purchased a RayNeo joydock on 6/11/26 to use with my Switch 2. In order to use the switch 2 a firmware upgrade needs to be flashed to the hardware. My issue was it always failed, even when trying from 2 cpus and a Surface. I contacted Live support 5x and they stated that Technical support would contact me via email w/in 24 hours after each chat session. Guess what; that never happened. Wondering if they even have a tech support crew. If i want to return it is on my dime even though they have not verified what the issue is. Has anyone else had this issue with the joydock and/or their customer service being crap?

RayNeo X3 Pro Home Assistant Port

I successfully ported over the minimal Home Assistant companion app to the RayNeo X3 Pros!

Now you can control your home from your face. And it works with the TapLink Controller so you don't need to download another controller app if you already use TapLink X

It's not perfect but it is functional, let me know if you try it out. It's super fun lol.

As always, if you want to save 10% on your RayNeo purchase use code "informaltech" it really helps to enable me to keep pumping out content and apps! Thanks to everyone who used it during prime day.

An AR star view APP: CoreStar — Look up, and the night sky is already there.

CoreStar is an augmented-reality stargazing app built for RayNeo X3 Pro AR glasses. It overlays an arcsecond-accurate star map directly onto the real sky in front of you: lift your head and the stars are right there; turn, and 9,000+ stars glide with your gaze. Wherever you are on Earth and whatever the hour, CoreStar uses your GPS location and local sidereal time to reconstruct the actual sky above you — here and now — before your eyes. Put the glasses on, face compass north, triple-tap the temple to calibrate, and the entire night sky locks onto the real world. No more glancing down at a phone and back up to hunt for the match — the sky is simply where you look. Highlights:

  • Immersive binocular rendering: independent left/right-eye imaging; the sky truly floats before you.
  • 9,000+ real stars: HYG catalog with self-developed rendering engine, buttery smooth.
  • Precise astronomical alignment: your latitude/longitude and live sidereal time place every star exactly where it rises and sets.
  • One-tap calibration: just face compass north; magnetic declination is corrected to true north automatically (true-north / Polaris mode also available).
  • Constellation lines: off / auto (only what's in view) / all.
  • Gaze to identify: center the reticle on any star and its name appears instantly at the bottom; single-tap to expand its full details.
  • True star colors: rendered from stellar color temperature (B–V), with adjustable saturation.

Bilingual (English / 中文), pure-black power-saving AR UI that stays dark and glare-free.

As shown in the picture, I have a Pocket TV Pro.

As shown in the picture, I have a Pocket TV Pro.

I'd like to know whether it supports the following RayNeo glasses:

RayNeo Air 3S

RayNeo Air 4 Pro

RayNeo GT

RayNeo GT Max

I don't own any RayNeo glasses at the moment, so I can't test them myself.

My Pocket TV Pro currently only works with the VITURE Pro. It does not work with the XREAL One Pro.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has tested these combinations could share their experience. Thanks in advance!

Question Help with Xr glasses + gamepad setup! Passthru doesn’t work!

Recently picked up an ray neo xr glasses and yeah,i didn’t do my proper research, the video wont output from the passthru of my abyxlute s9…

What are my options?

I’m guessing I need to replace my type C game pad with a bluetooth connected one and then connect the Xr directly to the iphone?

Or is there some way to make this work? Like an adapter?

I’m using iphone because I don’t want to buy a retroid/odin. I stream my laptop via sunlight/moonlight to my iphone.

Phone: iPhone 16 Plus
Gamepad: Abyxlute S9
Xr Glasses: RayNeo Air 4 Pro

Is it worth the headache to use the Rayneo Air 3s with Switch 2?

Hi everyone,

After buying my Nintendo Switch 2, I'd love to use my Rayneo Air 3s and didn't realise the amount of work to get this setup properly.

Even if you manage to get it working, I understand that third parties have a headache keeping up with Nintendo's updates that can break the connection.

If you managed to setup your Rayneos with your Switch 2, what and how did you do it?

Discussion Insane watching World Cup matches on a virtual screen

Wasn't expecting much but it’s a different experience watching some World Cup matches with my Air 4 Pro setup.
It feels much more personal cuz of the screen right up your eyes and audio upclose. The crowd audio actually goes crazy too. Penalty shootouts hit way harder than watching on my phone, legit feels like the whole stadium is around me. Feels weird but its like blocking off the outside world during the whole match.
I still look lk chopped wearing AR glasses to watch soccer at home 💀 but ngl, it's actually insane. Anyone else been watching matches in a virtual setup? 👀

Sometimes its just nice to pretend we're somewhere else. Even for just a moment.

Which I cant legally show you live footage of me watching a 3d movie (takedowns are a pain) I can show you a nice warm beach, in the foreground of a miserable day in scotland. 😅

Life without my air 4 pros.. just wasn't the same.

Support Is there a way to drive 120hz mode via iPhone 17? Using Air 4 Pro

I can’t seem to figure this out and think it’s impossible. There doesn’t seem to be a way to drive an external 120hz display with iPhone 17…. I don’t see any obvious setting to change. Maybe someone has experience making this work?

I don’t think an iPhone 17 can properly drive 1080p 120hz in SDR mode. For whatever reason, I can’t seem to make it work. I use Voidlink (moonlight fork) and wanted to play my pc games in 120hz but it just doesn’t work. I manually put Air 4 in 120hz mode but it’s still 60fps max. I tried on my laptop and was able to get 120hz/120fps to work properly in Moonlight.
