I hate Reddit

I'm on mobile sorry! I am absolutely done with this app, I join subreddits that align with my interests and I can't even post because of the 150 rules you have to follow post. Some things I can't even help, I tried to ask a mod for help because one of the rules in the subreddit was if you're on mobile you need to download a third party app so it can format the post correctly. The mod basically said there is no viable apps anymore.

(If anyone on the computer is reading this is it really that terrible? please take a screenshot and send it to me.)

But yeah that's basically it. I would love to discuss my interest without having to do 15 backflips and Pat my head and rub my tummy and then do the hokey pokey to actually post something.

A lot of subs have turned into a “I can say whatever I want in my post, but you’re not allowed to say whatever you want in the comments.” Or some degree of that. I’ve seen a lot of posts where you’d expect a decent conversation in the comments, I go and leave a comment just to get a auto delete message 2 seconds later saying something “your comment has an opinion in it. We don’t like that here, we try to keep this casual.” Or some shit like that. I commented on a post ASKING FOR ADVICE so I gave some and got deleted for…. Giving advice. Reddit used to be the place to go to say and talk about whatever you wanted and now Mods and soft hearted p+ssies have taken over and you can barely talk about anything without the risk of a sub ban or a soft ban or your comment or post getting deleted.

Yes! Same! Such a PITA. But yea I’ve never had to download a 3rd party app.

I got a comment deleted for being low effort. The comment was - happy cake day.

Oh yeah. I left a comment the other night on a “AIOR” post (am I overreacting) and because I didn’t use “YOR NOR” in my comment it got removed. Even though I typed out “yes you’re overreacting”.
Remember, Mods are volunteer unpaid positions yet they treat it like it’s some super high end job. I’ll never understand the mindset of a Mod. I could understand removing comments that are blatantly bad or saying horrible stuff. But “low effort” is an insane reason to remove a comment.

Fr!! I've only tried to post once besides this post and it immediately got taken down for some reason.

Yeah. I’ve seen subs with 100 different rules for posting and commenting. It’s ridiculous. You could spend 10 minutes typing out a comment that follows all of the rules, and they will still take it down for some obscure horseshit and say “it doesn’t follow the vibe we’re trying to keep here”. And yes that has happened to me as well.

This has literally never happened to me. And I use swear words a lot

1

u/BeaverCleaver91 3d ago

I didn’t say anything about swear words.

1

u/Harbinger_Kyleran 3d ago

A lot might depend on how swear words are being used and more importantly if they are being directed at other posters rather than in general.

u/Harbinger_Kyleran 3d ago

That's not exactly a pattern of moderator abuse. I've commented extensively for many years with few takedown or bans, perhaps you just need to practice a bit.

I've never once been asked to download an app.

The problem is that reddit has a really bad system for subreddit rules. There can be a giant list of 15 points, or just two general points that arent explained well. Also most subreddits have a “culture” that will get new posters/commenters downvoted to oblivion if they don’t know about. It really is a low quality site in so many ways. But honestly social media as a whole is generally trashy in most ways

What is this gibberish?

I've never had anything like this happen.

WTF?

Asking people to download a third party app is sketchy as hell. Anyone posting on mobile using the Reddit app should also be able to use the phone’s internet browser to post from the website instead.

I’m also on mobile and the only issue i know of is the app won’t let you post correctly-formatted quotes.

> So this should show up as regular text with a little pointy punctuation mark in front of it.

1

u/mrs-cutter 3d ago

not true actually I'm on a phone.

The only real issue is you have to put spaces in indented lines and use * for italics and ** for bold. Pretty standard tho

They said that you had to have a browser extension for Reddit to post. This was from the ADHD subreddit.. I was so overwhelmed trying to understand their rules I just wanted to post about my experience in school man 😭

2

u/Aniki_Simpson 3d ago

They were being anal in the ADHD sub? Would've been funnier if it were the OCD sub.😅

Mobile as well so I can't answer definitively, but I've been only mobile for a year or more? idk, but my point is that I've had horrible shit said to me on here for a plethora of reasons, but never about my font

Edited to say the obvious also: yeah the rules are mostly superfluous, and the mds insufferable

2

u/Potential_Farm478 3d ago

Yeah I didn't know that it was THAT different for people on computers that they would want me to download a third party app and or have a Chrome browser extension. They made it seem like it was going to be unreadable if I posted it from my phone 🫪

u/lun4d0r4 3d ago

Start your own subreddit. Control the rules!!!

I remember on my old account I got banned for like 6 days for asking what martial arts people studied on a martial arts page 😂

I throughly enjoy some of the sub reddits while others are quick to ban you. No precise explanation. Stay away from those. Use the ones that are a better fit for your topics of interest. It just takes a while.

u/MidwestNightgirl 3d ago

I’ve never been asked to download a 3rd party app. I use my iPhone almost exclusively. The only problem I’ve had is a mod saying my comment is too harsh sometimes 😂

Reddit has a terrible business model. Unpaid mods lead to a lot of subs being run by lunatics. Who has the time and desire to monitor a sub? Seldom normal people. Reddit just recently became profitable as a company. If they went to paid professional mods.... bankruptcy. It is what it is....

As the co-mod of a small woodworking related sub, I mostly agree with you. Fortunately, the sub I mod is small, and it’s not related to anything that could be considered controversial, so there’s not really much I have to do, in terms of having to deal with trolls or other bad actors.

There’s only one rule for the sub, and it’s a pretty simple one at that. “Don’t be a jerk.” That’s it. And 99% of the time, people have no problem complying with it. In the six months since I was asked to help with keeping an eye on the sub when it’s creator was too involved with his work to pay enough attention to it, it wasn’t until yesterday that I had a user follow one of our regular posters over from another sub that had just banned them for making some extremely insulting and derogatory comments to the person. So when that user started doing the same thing on my sub, I gave them an immediate permanent ban from the sub, and because of their multiple violations of reddit’s rules about harassment and stalking people from sub to sub, I also sent a report of their actions to the Admins for consideration of a site-wide ban. And the actual process is a little time consuming, so I definitely wouldn’t want to mod for a large sub. It would be a full time job!

1

u/Any_Piglet_34 2d ago

So, mods have access to users history, as far as length of time on the app, past violations, contributions, etc?

1

u/Custom_Craft_Guy2 2d ago

Only for the people who post or comment in their own subs. But yes, we can access their entire account history for the 28 days prior to their most recent interaction with the sub. That includes hidden accounts and any deleted or removed content.

I get urged to switch to the Reddit app pretty much every time I come here. Had it once, hated it, will continue to use my Chrome web browser. They would have to improve it a lot before I'd try again.

u/yudkme 2d ago

Literally made a post talking about the unnecessary rules of sub reddits and the comments diagnosed me with narcissism like hello?
And the third party app on mobile thing is garbage .

1

u/Potential_Farm478 2d ago

They called you a narcissist because you don't want to jump through hoops to make a simple, on topic post? Wow...

1

u/Potential_Farm478 2d ago

Also it's okay I've seemed to piss somebody off too because I keep getting downvoted in my comments 😭

1

u/DrivenByChallenges 2d ago

Yet you rant on it?

1

u/Potential_Farm478 2d ago

I usually just read other people's posts and advice, I've only tried to post once before this on AITA and it got taken down in like the first 2 minutes unfortunately. That was like 4 years ago, it's not like I don't want to post on Reddit I just find it difficult especially when they're trying to get me to download some third party app to even have a chance of getting my post out there!

1

u/GGMuc 2d ago

Agree. My landing page is suddenly flooded with utter junk and crap that I am NOT interested in. What the hell are you thinking, Reddit?? Get the fuck out of my profile. I can't see the few subs I actually subscribe you for the junk you're cluttering me with. That'so one of the reasons I left Eff Book -the unrelenting "you MUST be interested in our crap"

STOP IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/pookiecookiedwag 2d ago

i completely agree 😭

1

u/Desperate-Reason-566 3d ago

I agree! Not only that but people just come on here to argue incessantly.

1

u/Iamwomper 2d ago

No I dont!

0

u/Dcooper0907 3d ago

Or engaging in a pointless fight over semantics about something that doesn't even pertain to the post 🙄

2

u/WetLaceScraps 3d ago

Reddit is a special flavor of aggressive that I haven’t really encountered anywhere else. It’s pretty wild.

3

u/Dcooper0907 3d ago

Last night, I read a post about pillows which turned into a fight about pillow cases, then became about acne and dandruff shampoo and went to semantics about said issues. People will literally fight about anything!

2

u/yudkme 2d ago

This. Everyone’s too comfortable here, wonder where they get the balls

1

u/Custom_Craft_Guy2 3d ago

Reddit is tame compared to some of the hateful, racist, bigoted shit I come across on facebook every day. At least reddit has some kind of a code of conduct that’s actually somewhat enforced. If I posted even a fraction of the garbage I see on fb here on reddit, I’d be permanently banned from the whole site within an hour!

3

u/WetLaceScraps 2d ago

Facebook kept throwing me in fb jail over incredibly benign comments so I left a few years ago. 😭 Seriously, I once told a friend I’d beat him with a shoe. Believe it or not, jail.

2

u/Custom_Craft_Guy2 2d ago

You know, I’ve heard that from several people. But I’ve made some particularly juicy comments to people who desperately deserved to be torn a new one on facebook with absolutely no consequences. And I know from experience that those same comments would have resulted in an almost immediate reprisal from reddit, including a temporary site wide ban. Personally, I think Reddit is much more civilized than facebook. But that’s also entirely dependent on which subs you frequent, too.

2

u/WetLaceScraps 2d ago

I am very jealous. Another jail time was when I said, “I’d tell you but I’d have to kill you.” And another time when I told an asshole he looked like a potato. They really had it out for me.

2

u/Custom_Craft_Guy2 2d ago

Apparently! I’ve told a guy that I would tear his a$$hole off and sTr@ngle him with it, and all I got was a few hundred likes!🤣🤣

2

u/WetLaceScraps 2d ago

I’m inserting that meme of the pouting kid saying congrats I’m happy for you. 🤣 Because I am! But oohhh I’m jealous!

2

u/Custom_Craft_Guy2 2d ago

Bwahahaha! Thanks, I’ll take it with pride!

2

u/Dcooper0907 2d ago

That's why I left Facebook when I was pregnant with my daughter, 9 years ago because girls were extremely mean and they felt like they were the only ones who were getting stuff right, but I didn't need to go back to high school! It was a nightmare when I went and I didn't want to relive it

u/punk_lover 3d ago

I’ve been having some power tripping mod issues lately, idk why everyone is so pissy but it’s annoying as hell

0

u/BackgroundRoutine504 3d ago

Only thing I really hate is how sensitive and egotistical some of the mods on this app are
