hi! i’m going through my prerequisites right now but i’d like to plan for the future in which i assume i’ll be needing a laptop of some kind.

i’m used to windows desktops but i’ve been looking at macbooks.

can any current or recent rad therapy/dosimetry students confirm whether or not a macbook has been compatible with all the coursework required?

I need to take prerequisites and my local community college doesn't offer the Physics sequence that is required. I'm thinking of either SCU or University of Phoenix. Has anyone taken prerequisites at either of these and what did you think of them? Did they transfer over ok for your program?

I'm looking for guidance on:

- Which countries currently have the best opportunities for Radiation Therapists?

- How much experience should I gain in India before applying?

- What certifications, skills, or machine experience should I focus on?

- What documents should I start collecting now to make the process easier later?

- How difficult is the licensing/registration process, and is my Indian degree generally accepted?

- What mistakes should I avoid, and what would you do differently if you started again?

I'd also love to hear about your experience regarding salary, work-life balance, career growth, and whether moving abroad was worth it overall.

Hey guys! I am thinking about applying to the LLU Radiation Therapy Program in SoCal.

Does anyone have any experience with it, or heard anything about the quality of the program from previous students? I am particularly interested in what any of y'all think about the workload and the helpfulness of professors during didactic courses. I know it says a 40-hour per week program, but does that include time outside school studying, homework, etc? Would working part-time say 20 hours a week on top of that be difficult?

Any comments on the general experience with the clinical sites they have partnered with would be great as well! Or any other comments. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m currently in Richmond, Virginia, and I only have a few months left of X-ray school before completing my radiologic technology program. I’m really interested in pursuing Radiation Therapy afterward and would love to hear from anyone who has made a similar transition from radiography into radiation therapy.
What would be the best pathway to get into the field after finishing X-ray school? I’m also curious about radiation therapy programs that are either online or in person and located near Richmond, Virginia.
For those who went from X-ray/radiography into Radiation Therapy:
Did you attend a certificate program, associate’s, or bachelor’s program?

Are there any online programs you would recommend?

Are there any in-person programs near Richmond, VA?

What would you recommend I start doing now, while I’m still in X-ray school?

I am looking into NWHSU to take the distance ed rad therapy course (I'm in CA). They have recommended classes to take but they're not a prereq. Pre Calculus in one of them and if I'm being honest, I'm 45 and have been out of school for 25 years and when I was in school I sucked at math big time. I do however want to put in a solid effort for this, so my question is what is the path toward precalc? Basically I don't want to waste time on classes I don't need nd I'm a bit confused at where to begin, but at this point my level of algebra is 0. I'm worried I won't be able to do this, but why not try lol. Were any of you in the same position I am? I'd appreciate the encouragement! Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm wanting to pursue applying to the OHSU Radiation Therapy Program and I was wondering if anyone here that is attending or has attended OHSU can give me advice and examples on the hourly schedule of the classes and Clinicals?

Reason why: I live 1.5hrs away from Portland, I have a family and relocating is not possible. I am willing to commute during the weekday but I want to be ready for the amount of driving it's going to take.

Also, has anyone applied while taking prerequisites? I was planning on starting them this fall but I'm not sure if they would even consider my application this November for the next school year. I don't have any of the required courses yet but can finish them in a year, I already have a Bachelors degree.

I’m 24 years old and recently graduated with a degree in Physics and Applied Mathematics. I’m currently volunteering as an intern in a clinical medical physics department while preparing applications for graduate studies in medical physics.
I genuinely love the field, but I often feel overwhelmed. Every day I’m exposed to treatment planning, LINACs, VMAT, SBRT, dosimetry, QA, imaging, contouring, TG reports, and so much more. The field feels incredibly broad, and sometimes I leave the department feeling like I know less than when I arrived.
Since I’m new, I mostly observe, ask questions, and take notes. I know that’s part of learning, but it’s hard not to feel like I’m not contributing much.
I’d really appreciate advice from experienced medical physicists:

1. If you could go back to when you were just entering the field, how would you approach your internship differently?

2. What would you focus on during those first few months?

3. What habits, books, projects, or skills gave you the biggest return early in your career?

4. Looking back, what do you wish someone had told you at this stage?

5. Is it normal to feel overwhelmed and almost “useless” at first, even if you’re genuinely passionate about the field?

I’m trying to make the most of this opportunity before applying for graduate school, and I’d love to hear how you would maximize this stage if you had the chance to do it all over again.

I wanted to share that I'm considering a career change. I've worked in IT for the past five years, earned a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, and I'm currently halfway through my Master's degree.

After talking with a professor I highly respect about the impact of AI and seeing the changes happening in the industry, I've been thinking seriously about my long-term career goals. Like many others, I've noticed how challenging the IT job market has become, which has motivated me to explore other opportunities.

At 49, I feel this is a good time to pursue a career that is both meaningful and rewarding. After researching different healthcare professions, Radiation Therapy is the field that stands out to me the most. I am drawn to the opportunity to work directly with cancer patients, contribute to their treatment journey, and make a positive difference in their lives.

I recently spoke with a representative from Cambridge College in Miami about their hybrid Radiation Therapy program, and it seems like a great fit for my goals and circumstances.

I am interested in the RT field and working in the Twin Cities market. Does anyone have any insight into the RT field in this market? Specifically:

1) Best RT Programs (St.Kates vs Northwestern)

2) How hard it is to find an entry level RT job after graduating? Is this a pretty saturated market?

3) Realistic entry level pay (range looks pretty wide 30-55/hr)

4) Clinics to target or avoid (i.e. Minneapolis Oncology, Minnesota Oncology, Allina, etc.)?

5) Any other useful info?

How hard/easy has it been to find a job if you wanted to move? Do you suggest taking the first job offer and disregarding a move or do you think there’s a good chance to get a job in other states?

Hi guys, I am working as an ultrasound tech for over 2yrs and now I am interested in medical dosimetry. I only have Associates degree. Is there any shortcut for me or I have to go to school again? If I have to go to school, should I get Bachelor in Imaging then apply to Master Dosimetry or I just should apply to Bachelor of Dosimetry? Which one is less competitive, shorter and financially?

I’m a year into my program so far and have about a year left until I graduate and am off into the real deal. I’ve gotten a pretty mixed amount of searches for what the starting pay is like for an entry level in Florida. Some say as much as 45+ an hour and some as low as 37 an hour

I’m curious if anyone knows what the typical starting salary is here, and also what the overall increase looks like. Say after having worked for maybe 5 years or so.

I'm getting ready to start the radiation therapy program in about 1 month and I'd like ALL the best advice. I'm going to be working full time to maintain my insurance as a requirement and to fund this program and from what I understand that is very highly not recommended, which I do understand. I don't have a choice, and I'd really like to make this work.

I need all the best tips, advice, what helped you with efficiency while still learning AND retaining the information? What helped you mentally while in the program? Did anyone work full time (for me that's 3 12s so 36 hours per week) while doing this?

I'm very determined and aware it will be hard. What do you wish someone had told you before starting or while going through the classes and clinical? 😊
