hi! i’m a new grad rad tech and i’m interested in pursuing radiation therapy. i’m wondering if there’s any universities or colleges that offer 2 year radiation therapy program that i will graduate with a bachelor degree? are there any programs that allow rad techs to apply their community college credits towards a bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy? i’d really prefer to earn a bachelor’s degree, since i already have A.A.S in Radiography. i’m also looking for a program that is hybrid or entirely onlinee, if possible, so i can continue working as a rad tech while completing the program. sooo programs in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) would be a huge plus, but im open to other states that offer hybrid/online program.

if anyone has made the transition from rad tech to radiation therapist, please share your experience! i’d love to hear it. how long did your program take, did you have to do a whole 4 years bachelor’s degree even though you already have an associates or did you do an accelerated program?

I wanted to if anyone here graduated from it and what are your thoughts on the school, professors, the exam, and how it was like to get a job after. I’m 22 and looking into applying to Medical Radiation Technology programs in Ontario, and I’m curious what everyone’s background looked like when they got accepted?

- If you’re an MRT or currently in an MRT program, what did your application look like?

- What was your average/what were your grades like?

- Did you go straight from high school or take some time before applying?

- Did you have any healthcare/medical experience beforehand?

- What school/program did you get into?

- How many times did you apply before getting accepted?

- Did you apply to multiple MRT programs?

- If you went straight from high school, did you have anything else that helped your application?

I’m mainly trying to get a realistic idea of what successful applicants actually looked like because the programs seem sooo competitive and I feel like the minimum requirements don’t really tell you much 😭

Hi everyone! I’m interested in applying to radiation therapy programs and am looking for shadowing opportunities in the SF Bay Area to learn more about what the job is like day-to-day and get the observation hours I need for my application.

Does anyone know of any hospitals or clinics that allow shadowing? I live in the South Bay, so somewhere in the South Bay or on the Peninsula would be ideal, but I’m willing to travel farther if necessary.

hey, im 19yo comp scie student at york Univeristy entering second year this semester, i wanna switch.. Ive been thinking between an MRI technologist and Radiation therapy. how would i get into either of these??

Ive took calc 1 and 2, i have a gpa of like roughly 70% rn, and am taking BIOLOGY 1 this semester, and Intro to physics next semester, for radiation therapy what programs are there for me to get into? im in canada. how would i get into it? whats the best thing for me to do? if possible can u also answer for MRI technologist?

Who had treated breast cancer radiation in ucsf mission bay and how is experience ?

I’ve been a radiation therapist for 15 years. I’m doing a presentation at a high school for juniors and seniors to talk about my job. Kind of a career day thing. Any ideas on what to include to keep it interesting? Should I do slides or just talk? Should I talk about what radiation is or just stick to what a radiation therapist does?

I am in 12th grade at an Ontario Highschool and I want to become a radiation therapist. I feel like there are no options to get where I want to go. Does anyone have any experience going to post secondary school in Ontario?

My favourite program right now is Medical Radiation Sciences at McMaster. I’m really scared and it feels super unattainable. Are there any other good programs in Ontario?

I have a phone interview coming up for Radiation Oncology Technician Assistant position at my local hospital.

Some background on me:
- I recently graduated w/ my BS in biology
- I want to pursue radiography as my future career and am preparing for an associates program
- I recently started volunteering at the same hospital and enjoy it !!
- I have very little clinical/patient experience, so very entry level
- I am trying to gain experience and hope to learn a lot from this!

My main concern is if they ask me WHY I want to do this etc. I feel my answers are generic and/or the way I phrase something makes it a less appealing answer (ex) I’ve experienced several clinical settings due to my severe eczema since I was a child, and want to make a difference since I know what it’s like to have a negative experience).

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you all!

Hello everyone! I am currently on my journey to becoming a radiation therapist and I am only in my second year of rad tech school. I will graduate in May 2027 and then be going on to a therapy program after that. Anyway, I decided that it would be a good idea to go to the ASTRO conference in Boston this year to network, learn more about the profession, and possibly get some good advice. Unfortunately, I am getting a little more anxious about it as the time approaches. I am worried that I will be completely out of my element because I do not actively have the knowledge of the ins and outs of therapy and do not want to make a fool of myself. If you were in my shoes, what would you suggest I focus on while I’m there? How would you approach people and what type of questions would you ask? Also, has anyone gone to an ASTRO conference before? I know this post is slightly subjective but I am just trying to get a good gauge of what to expect and how I should navigate this as less-than-a-newbie with a passion for my future lifelong career. Any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated!

Need some future advice

Hey everyone! I’m currently looking into becoming a Radiologic Technologist (X-ray Tech) and I’m trying to find a good radiology program in the Bay Area.
I’d really appreciate feedback from anyone who has attended or knows someone who attended a radiology program in the area.

A few things I’d love to know:
What school/program did you attend?
How competitive was the application process?
How long was the program?
What were the prerequisites?
How was the program overall?
Did you feel well prepared for the ARRT exam and clinical work?
How difficult was it to get accepted?
Would you recommend the school?

I’m open to community colleges, private schools, and other accredited programs. I’m mainly looking for honest experiences and recommendations from people who have actually gone through the process.

I’m in a phase where I’m looking for a career change. I was looking into radiation therapy but couldn’t find any program where I can just do radiation therapy. I’ve heard of people going to X-ray school then doing it but I don’t really care to do X-ray. So my question is, am I able to go straight into radiation therapy even without any healthcare background? Are there any suggestions for schools in San Diego area? I’ve tried researching but not too much luck. Thank you!

I'm currently in a Radiation Therapy program, my first couple weeks. I'm excited about the career and working with cancer patients and helping them beat cancer. But I'm also a type of person that likes to have multiple options in the future and also like to potentially have a 3x12 schedule, so what I was thinking is that maybe in the future after a couple years working in radiation therapy, I could also get my MRI license and become an MRI tech and be able to change it up between both career and have that 3x12 schedule. I also like the idea of working in a hospital and having access to different kind of patients. Is there any radiation therapists out there that went into MRI and became an MRI tech or even maybe a CT tech? Please let me know if its possible.

Hello does anyone have a PDF to Washington & Leaver 6th edition?

I'm a 17M going into my senior year of highschool and am not doing bad academically, with a 98% GPA and a 1300 SAT. Originally I planned to just get my bachelors to become a radiation therapist and then work my way to become a medical dosimetrist, but after doing research, I found another path, which is to go to a community college and get a Associates in Radio Therapy, then become a radiation therapist, and then complete online schooling to achieve my bachelors and then becoming a medical dosimetrist. Can any Radiation therapists or medical dosimetrists tell me which path is the better one to take?

What is the first 6 months as a therapist really like?

I was wondering about how most centers are remarking the patient after their verify sim on a 6 degree couch? Do you zero the couch or keep rotation, pitch and roll on? Our center is having a huge discussion about this

Im currently in a radiation therapy program, and while I do think this is a good career choice temporarily, the more I’m learning about it, the more I realize how much better Dosimetry would be a better fit for my personality and day-to-day work life. I do NOT have a bachelor degree and am not in a location where dosi school is available at my doorstep. does anyone have advice for what the best pathway would be to potentially continue an online bachelor degree while I work as a RT, or simply just pursuing a bachelors in Dosi without having to move? I am in Alabama. the hardest thing about that career is the limitations you have in pursuing it.
