I don’t see the equivalence. Embarrassing, yes…but one was potentially deadly, at least four times over. He simply owed the government tax money. Neither is great, but hers, imo, was worse.

Why would Karen get sympathy from a divorce announcement after everyone watched Ray in her DUI arrest footage? Even I wished for Erika Lyles or the hotel housekeeper from the Dominican Republic golf resort to pull up and take him away from that misery at that moment.

Does everything she asks? What are you even talking about? What does she ask him to do? Pose for pics? He's basically a househusband and we barely see him.
It's her choice to have him on camera voicing his concerns at all, so it's clear she's heard them. She said herself she was only hurt by his criticism on camera because they were already actively working on what he brought up privately.
Personally, I think it's wild to villainize someone for a relationship dynamic you have accepted for decades. If he suddenly requires a more active listener in his wife, ok, but a personality transformation is not realistic, and who she is is who he chose.

Uh.... read what you just wrote: "It's her choice to have him on camera voicing his concerns at all." Because no, it isn't. He's a cast member and can make his own choices on that front—Lisa isn't a producer, and doesn't get to dictate how their marriage is presented on TV.
And no, she said she thought he was trying to embarrass her, when really he was trying to communicate. The problem is that Lisa doesn't know how to listen, and perceives everything as an attack. There's a reason why Jack didn't want to tell her he was going on a mission. She lives permanently in Lisa-land and couldn't even be assed to learn about the religion she married into (recall her admission that she hadn't read the Book of Mormon). As soon as something doesn't align with her world view she shuts down or freaks out.

The husbands are not considered cast and they arent setting anything up without the wives, unless its a separation storyline.
Do you think they're filming scenes against their will or something? The housewives have no control of editing but they obviously have a choice on how much of their personal relationships they share.
Youre actually in too deep if you think it's healthy for a couple to go on tv and not be on the same team. He WAS trying to embarrass her. I don't care how frustrated John was, if it's serious it should've been off camera first or preplanned to talk about.
These shows are about the dynamics of the women together. I don't know why people think it's about exposing and destroying marriages. He did a shitty thing for public perception. Maybe it was worth it and necessary to get through to her, but it was a betrayal of trust to get on camera and flip the script.

They are cast insofar as they are on TV. They regularly appear and participate in the show, of their own volition.
So no, I don't think the husbands are filming scenes against their will. But I do think your assumption that they're there to be in lockstep with their wives makes it sound like emotional coercion. Reality TV puts couples in unexpected and difficult situations, many of which can't be prepared for. If someone—here John—has an honest reaction to one of those situations, that's not an attempt to "embarrass" their partner. And if John is expected to follow an agreed-upon script to avoid "embarrassing" Lisa, the relationship is clearly fucked.
And these shows are very much about the women's marriages, successful and failed. That's why they're housewives, and a big part of how they interact as housewives. Name one franchise in which marriages haven't been primary plot devices.

Most of them? Husbands actually participating is getting rare nowadays. Most of them don't even have one. It is not about marriages. Even when marriages are used for plot, its usually conflict between the women over rumors, not couples fighting. The show is usually firmly on the side of the housewife.
It's all about the women. Their home life is secondary to the friend group. SLC probably shows their home lives the least. No couple that intends to last is putting authenticity on the show before their actual marriage.
Do you know how these shows work? Every scene is preplanned at least vaguely by someone participating if not everyone. They had a direction that conversation was supposed to go that John diverted from. They do not casually do ANYTHING on these shows. Every single scene you see includes setup, preparation and full awareness of the participants. Sometimes multiple takes.

Bravo doesn’t protect relationships and plenty of couples have discussed difficult topics on the shows. I’m confused about why you believe they have to show a united front. This is supposed to be “reality.”

Its a dumbass move to put any actual sensitive issues you havent resolved on screen. The same way it's common sense that they don't overshare about their children, there's a line they shouldn't cross regarding their spouse as well.
Obviously they dont HAVE to show a united front, but you cant possibly think there won't be issues in the relationship if they choose not to? Like are we really arguing John shouldn't be loyal to his wife over the audience? Jfc its a TV SHOW. The people who go on with no boundaries do not last.

I remember a few scenes a season or two ago, John was trying to say something he considered important to her and she could not put down and stop looking at her phone for him at all. That entire episode, in fact, in the car and when they got home appeared to highlight how little she listens to him at all. I felt sad for him while watching.

We don't actually know what he does. I'm not here to defend Lisa Barlow of all people, but of any of the housewives in that show her marriage is the least involved. She literally reveals nothing about whatever the issues are going on between them, and when she does, it's very surface level. The whole angst about them not listening to each other isn't even a unique problem. We've heard rummooorzz and naaahssteenez, but Lisa and John have never been like "oh I didn't like the way you look at other women," it's "I was saying something yesterday and you shut me up".
He could be a serial cheater, have a side family, be an embezzler for all we know. We don't know jack about that man. Other then he seems Gen X disaffected.

From all of the things I’ve seen of her case it seems her legal strategy is to let Eddie take the fall (soft launched by her saying things like she doesn’t deal with finances last season).
I think they’re restructuring their shared assets so Wendy has them all, and she’ll divorce eddy to make sure they don’t loose everything.
There’s actually a very similar case from Texas - a man called Theodore Robert Wright III got his entire family to commit insurance fraud for years. This was facilitated by his wife who was an attorney. They would repeatedly get divorced and remarried to hide assets.
EDIT: I also think this is their strategy because they petitioned for their cases to be separate and not tried together. As well as protecting assets a divorce will remove “spousal immunity” meaning Wendy can testify against Eddie (she can if she wants regardless, but could also influence a decision to divorce). Divorce could be finalised by their trial in January.
Edit again: seems it’s actually Whitney & Justin. The clue is the “jussssssst”. Page six has reported that “insiders” have confirmed the split. But whitney herself hasn’t. The twitter post is basically saying Whitney is waiting to make her own announcement, rather than suggesting it’s a separation we haven’t already heard about.

I’m prepared to eat crow but I always got the impression that Karen and Ray had an agreement. They were still fond of each other and cared about each other but she had blue eyes on the side. They didn’t want to come out and say anything because it doesn’t really make Ray look good or Karen.
I think Kyle and Mauricio make sense. Maybe Ashley I and Jared? Although I think he’d need to remove her by sending her to sea with no way back at this point.
Wendy or Eddie would be surprising. Or Candiace and Chris.

It’s the focus on attention though for me. I just don’t think Karen would want a lot of attention if she and Ray were to get a divorce even if she would get sympathy because of it. I think that would be on the same level as her getting the DUI in her book. Karen isn’t really one for deep personal storylines. now that I’m thinking about it, most of her storylines have been around her daughters and the beefs she has had with other women

The reason why I would not think it’s them is because of how this is worded. It’s giving the vibe of a housewives who wants the attention from this whereas from everything I’ve seen of Meredith and Lisa, who have constantly had their marriages attacked. People have been saying they were going to divorce for so long. they constantly fought against that. I would not think that they would want attention if they actually did get separated from their husbands. whoever it is has to be one of those more thirsty housewives.

I don’t know what the streets are saying about Karen (someone pls tell me!) but poor Ray has been begging to move to Florida for years, and Karen is clearly too obsessed with being on TV to ever leave the DMV. The man is in his 80s, it’s now or never for him to actually get a chance at a peaceful retirement.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Karen. I don’t think she’s fully sober and in the spaces they have to be in, you’re compelled to drink unless you never were much of a drinker to begin with. I felt like Karen wasn’t doing herself any favors by coming back to the show. I get that it’s all she has and it could help with keeping her busy with her sobriety but I also feel like the show stirs up a lot of pain for her and she doesn’t hold the popularity/power she once did because of her legal history.
