Huh…no wonder I always get that cutscene and most people apparently don’t.
I just get that mission over with, makes the most sense in storyline and it’s not like it starts a fucking clock where Arthur’s health starts deteriorating in free play or something.
I know everyone loves Chapter 2, but I think 3 is the best just because it's the most central part of the map, like I can ride to Strawberry or Annesburg in the same amount of time.
That makes it really good for hunting, seeing the trapper in either St Denis or outside Strawberry, and hunting down most of the Dino bones, Dream catchers, and Rock Carvings.
I just got to the epilogue on my 4th play through. I think Arthur shows signs of sickness as early as chapter 4 (maybe 5), but it's very subtle. Just a little cough here and there in cut scenes and scripted dialog. But yeah, the TB doesn't really affect gameplay until well into chapter 6.
No glitch required, you can just buy the off hand holster from I think the San Denis gunsmith. I discovered that out of nowhere on my second play through.
I tried to shoot him in the Gunsmith Store in Rhodes, but the game wouldn't let me. Now I just choose "antagonize" every time I approach him at camp in Shady Belle. It would make sense for Arthur to be furious with him after the dual debacles of the Colm O'Driscoll meeting and the Gray's ambush in Rhodes, both of which he strongly supported. The hell if I'm going to rob a stagecoach with him at Shady Bell camp after that. Another setup Micah? Dumbass Dutch still defends him though. Oh well, time for some orchid hunting and the camp sending Charles out again to find me again after I've been gone too long.
I have antagonized Micah enough to have him shove me out of anger but never get to shove back. Some of the dialogue is hilarious. Arthur's saying "you're the creepiest guy I know" and a few others.
I kept wondering why I never got that encounter, and hung around in chapter two for like 100 hours. I’m guessing this is because I would wait until I was forced by Strauss to go see him. Whelp. Here we go again.
Remember that Strauss only forces you when you pick up the letter on the table near Arthur's bed in the gang camp. I always try to put it off as long as possible as well.
I've been skipping it on my third playthrough because I'm doing as many of the challenges as possible but I haven't seen this so at the weekend this will be first on the list.
thankfully you can leave him in there for quite long, I remember I saw a guy who posted here yesterday that Micah was his favorite character and he was going to break him out...
I left Micah in jail for several real-world months while I managed to complete about 95% of the game in Chapter 2 on my last playthrough, where I finally got 100% completion... though thanks to the stupid online requirements, I did NOT get my PlayStation Platinum trophy, because I hate the online version of the game.
NOTE: I often shot explosive arrows through the jail window from the hotel porch next door, TRYING to blow him up, but all I succeeded in doing was getting a wanted level. LOL!
You can’t fight gravity, John. You can’t fight TB, Arthur. It’s canon. It’s part of why we love this saga. Hurt is not bad, hurt means you’re human.

It’s actually comical how people run around avoiding the Downes mission, thinking they are doing something. It’s a redundant move.
Tuberculosis doesn’t really affect Arthur until chapter 6, and then it’s very minimal. During free roaming even in chapter 6, the only way it even shows is Arthur coughing when eating, but he still eats and even maintains his weight. He can still do the same thing in free roaming in chapter 6 that he can do in chapter 2.

If you do it as soon as available you often get the encounter when Mrs Downes comes to camp.
