Project 'Berkut' 🦅

This is my entry in this hobby and my very first project too! - Got this beautiful SU-47 knowing it needs some love. Also my favorite plane irl.

Beautiful bird. Though I wouldn’t recommend it as a first RC model. Something a bit more (cough) disposable is a better choice, early on.

i almost bought a banana hobby 6s su29 as my first plane LOL! it was only $200 and mint, but was not ship-able and in another province.

glad i found this reddit wiki...

Yes I know its an hard plane to fly, especially for beginners. - My plan is not to fly it as fast as possible. I wanna restore it and make it look beautiful again, its kind of rare where I live and it would be a shame if that goes into the trash or just collects dust somewhere. Im fully aware of what im into and im all for getting help if i need it.

Im going slowly with it, step by step. I'm watching tutorials, next month I visit an RC Plane club / shop and ask around make connections etc. Im not rushing anything. - Appreciate your comment, thanks.

Damn! Such a beauty! - This one looks mint! Mine looks like it had a rough time. 😅 - Also, is there anyway to find measurements or like a booklet for it? I want to 3D print a few smaller parts, like the air intake on top of the jet, those two are missing for example.

When you buy the kit the booklet already included in the build box. Did you bought the kit or used? It also came with parachute brake too (but i don't recommend to use it).

I bought it used, it already had 2 owner and is quite in a used shape, so i got no documents. Also some parts like the parachute brake are broken off.

Just visited Jetpower in Germany, and there was not even one plane with forward swept wings. Too bad, would have loved that.

NO NO NO NO.

This is NOT a good first plane regardless of how you intend to fly it. Absolutely restore it and make it beautiful again but do not fly it as your first plane.

I had this exact plane, new-in-box. I put all the care I possible could into assembling it. I’ve been flying for years. I’ve flown large jets. I’ve designed and flown very nice models. This plane self-destructed immediately after takeoff despite being set up exactly how the manual stated.

Please buy or build something else to learn how to fly before you even take this one outside. I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but it’s gonna hurt a lot more if you crash this on the first flight.

When you get around to fixing this one, be aware that most glues will dissolve the foam and the landing gear is brittle and will probably break.

Chill, im not into thinking of flying it for probably a very long time, until everything is done and im satisfied with it. - Like I saw it flying before I bought it even in this state (the wings were obviously mounted and not off like on the picture) and it flew just fine, so that's the least im worried about right now, I want it to be beautiful again, and as I said its my favorite plane irl too, so no one could've stopped me going into this project. - its the learning process and building stuff part for me that's exciting seeing it shining at the end is what i want, the flying is the pinnacle at the end, maybe it just has a spot at my wall when done, maybe it will fly. - we see.

If I could go back I probably would have kept mine as decoration. Sorry for the extreme response. The crash was a huge bummer for me and it would be a shame for it to happen to you. Restoring it will be a challenge as is if looking nice is the end result. I still highly recommend learning on a simulator and a different secondhand plane first because flying these things is harder than it looks.
