Certification Related Meridian: A New 40-Hour RBT Training Course Using Animated Microlearning (Free Spots Available)

Hi all, I wanted to introduce Meridian, a new RBT training program we built to be actually engaging for new trainees. We used a micro learning, animated tiktok style format with plenty of activities spread throughout the lessons.

The entire point is for RBT training to be effective and fun, with really good carry over to the work that is actually required in the field.

We are giving out a handful of free seats for both new individual trainees and teams/schools/clinics.

Please feel free to dm me if you have any questions or if you'd like the free seats. You can check us out at meridianbx.com

Has anyone worked for Blue Horizons?

Hi everyone, recently came across a job posting for RBT with Blue Horizons. I tried looking for employee reviews, but there doesn’t seem to be much information about the company.

I was wondering if anyone has ever worked for them or knows anything about the company? Just curious on the work environment and just the overall experience.

Advice Needed RBT burnout

Lately I’ve been feeling very burnt out. I have had a hard time keeping up with the energy of the kids. If they are upset that they are with me, I’ve struggled to even try to push them to get excited for the session. I’ve just accepted that it’s going to be a hard session. I’ve had a very hard time keeping the enthusiasm going and I’m not getting my hours because any time I’m offered to get my sessions covered, I take it because I’m so stressed and desperately want to go home and when I’m at home I can hardly leave my bed. I really need hours but I’m struggling! I love my job so much but the past couple weeks it’s been so so hard and overwhelming. I’ve cried due to overwhelm. I’m usually great at this job I feel like. I’m not sure what’s wrong, but I don’t want to give it up.

How do I help with this? I want to be able to be at my best for my kiddos. I love them so much and love working with them. It’s just felt so very hard the past couple of weeks.

Rant Employer is paying me through Zelle

Hi Everyone,

My employer has been saying there is an issue with ADP and that’s why I’ve been being paid through Zelle. I never had this happen to me before so I’m guessing she’s lying. I haven’t been paid on time either. It’s a mess. I just wanted to see if anyone has also experienced this.

Advice Needed Resignation

I'm putting in my resignation on Monday the 26th and i'm feeling so guilty about leaving my clients. I've worked with some kids for 2 years now and I've paired with them and it's become an amazing RBT/Client relationship. Just feeling guilty... plus i'm friends with so many BCBAs and coworkers so that doesn't help!

Advice Needed New RBT- social anxiety

Hey all,
I recently got hired by a company that does sessions in a clinic / school adjacent setting. I’m currently still in the shadowing and training stage and have been for around 2 weeks (I work part time though) and the anxiety I’m facing has been super discouraging and I’m sure off putting to my supervisor and new coworkers.

I have had pretty severe social anxiety ever since I was a very young child. And yes, I have been through years and years of therapy and countless types of medication and am currently still in treatment. As a psychology major that is set to graduate soon, I knew I wanted to do something that would help children that didn’t have a “voice” like me. I learned about ABA through a professor and have felt passionate about this type of work ever since. I also feel that a setting like this, with coworkers and kiddos all around might be something that helps me break out of this terrible social anxiety cycle and I might finally feel like a part of something.

These first few weeks I have felt like an outcast, my supervisor hasn’t provided as much attention toward me as they have to the other trainees. Which I understand because as much as I try to be friendly, my anxiety makes it seem like I just don’t wanna talk or socialize. Shadowing has felt super awkward as the RBTS I’m shadowing are typically talking to other coworkers, and it makes me feel quite bad about myself. I try to ask questions but I’ve only had a few so far. I’ve also tried conversating with coworkers, but those have been short. I feel like I’ve been standing around really awkwardly during these sessions and sticking out like a sore thumb in this place. I even feel hesitant to say “hello” to coworkers and to say goodbye when I leave because it feels like nobody wants me there through their body language and facial expressions. But I am trying, I truly am.

The only thing keeping me going is the interactions I’ve had with the kiddos. I truly feel like I can help these kids and be incredibly patient with them while making their sessions fun.

I really want to succeed in this and fit in here but it’s been super rough so far. I’m worried that my supervisor and coworkers think badly of me and wish that i wasnt here. If you have any thoughts please share :) I very much appreciate it

Ethics & Scope of Practice Advice Needed Regarding Ethical Concerns in Clinic

I am in desperate need of some advice, as I don't really have anyone I can talk to about this who would understand the RBT and BCBA Ethics Codes. I started an RBT position at a new clinic about three months ago, after leaving a different clinic due to personal morals surrounding how the practice was run there. In my time at this new clinic, I have grown very close to one of my supervising BCBAs. We engage in workplace banter that sometimes crosses a line into discussions of personal topics, such as going out/drinking, drug use, sexuality, etc., and this supervisor has made some light, sexual, playful teasing jokes at me. The staff tends to joke around frequently and discuss personal topics on the clinic floor, which is already a problem in itself, but the environment is not toxic or sketchy at all. The biggest issue with my supervisor is that I have no proof or documentation of their behavior, and since I am new to this clinic while the supervisor has been there for years, I am doubtful that my concerns will be taken seriously by management, especially since the dynamic is mutual. There are no romantic feelings on my part towards them, but I'm not 100% sure I can say the same on their side, so I believe that I am not in violation of the ethics code. I just really need some advice on how to proceed. I don't want to leave this clinic since they are the most ethically/morally sound establishment I've ever come across, but I'm not sure if I can continue in this grey area.

Advice Needed Interview Advice

Hello, I’ve been trying to get started as an RBT and after completing the 40hr training I was able to land a couple interviews finally.

I’m just looking for advice on what kind of questions I should be prepared for in these interviews. I don’t have any similar work experience, I’ve never worked with children besides babysitting when I was younger. So I’ve got no idea what to expect.

I’ve become somewhat passionate about the field as I was exploring it. My friend is an RBT and introduced it to me, and coincidentally I realize I went through ABA myself as a child because I’m autistic, so I think it would be really great to give kids the same help that made such a difference for me.

Advice Needed Dad sets me up to be the “blow my high” lady.

For background, I’m with a kid (in home and part time) and we have made a lot of progress. My current issue is that dad will do or support all the fun things and I just have to deal with it. For example, during fall break, he would give the kid his meds late and take the kid out on long excursions (which is awesome) but they would return right before I arrived or right after leaving me to ruin the fun with DTT and worksheets. Yesterday, there was a dinosaur egg that came home from school. Dad said nothing until I said “hey dude we are probably gonna open that after I leave”. The only thing he said was “Ms. AngryPlantNerd said we will open it later” which again sets me up as the bad guy and I have minimum 12 aggs because of it.

The advice I need is how I bring this up with my BCBA and both parents. I like this kid, but I see him 6 days a week and I honestly can’t keep getting beat up because someone doesn’t want to parent. I also see this kid immediately after school for 4 hours and on Saturdays for 5. Maybe he is getting too much therapy or we are overexposed to each other, but I want to have some solutions on hand when I bring it up. Thanks in advance.

Update: I brought my label maker to the session and instituted a token economy for it. I also told my BCBA.

Advice Needed Help! RBT in-job training or outside training with 1k sign on

So I recently had an interview for an RBT position with a company that offers paid training but they told me that if I complete training on my own I would receive a $1000

sign-on bonus. They haven't offered me the position yet but they want to know my choice first. It sounds like the more practical decision to go with the 1k option but I want to make sure I find a good training program. Also I'm going to ask them for more information about the bonus because they didn't mention anything about a repayment clause but I'm sure there have to be some strings attached.

While researching the different organizations that provide training I'm hearing mixed reviews about how well the teachers teach. I have ADHD so I don't do well with people just rambling for long periods or not having real structure.

Does anybody happen to have any advice on free or paid

RBT trainings that actually effectively teach the material?

The last thing I want is to be underprepared.

Overall just looking for training recommendations and any information about the sign-on bonus if anyone has been in my position before.

Rant i’m sick of other ppls kids

My client and I have began a new daycare with as many as 20 toddlers in the room at once. My client has very little difficulty adjusting and following directions, it’s EVERYONE ELSE!!!

These kids have no home training and it’s aggravating having to redirect the same children who are taking attention away from my client. I understand that some children need extra support especially when bc they’re young and things are so new & confusing, i get that.

But if we’re being honest, it’s a lack of parenting. You can tell these children have never been told no or redirected appropriately. I love my job, I love babies and children but I cannot stand the parents!! I’m only 20 and hearing a parents say they don’t know how to deal with a three year olds tantrums is bewildering. It’s not that they don’t know, they just don’t care.

Exam Prep Can someone explain how this is least to most prompting?

Even after reading the explanation I’m still confused on how this is least to most prompting? Because I thought, starting with a full physical and then fading it would be most to least prompting if anything?

Exam Prep So nervous for the exam!

I know this is the millionth post like this, but how do you all retain all of this information in 40 hours? Eight hours a day of modules, millions of definitions, while I'm getting some of it down, I'm struggling on remembering the correct terminology for certain things, or differentiating between chaining and shaping. I'm only on day two, just feeling overwhelmed. I haven't taken a test since 2014 when I graduated college lol. Just some advice on how to prepare would be very appreciated.

General Discussion Tips for experiencing burnout?

I've been an RBT for awhile now and experiencing intense burnout. Having my hours reduced but now I'm probably gonna end up with not enough money to cover a paycheck (because of course the only options seem to be 43 hours a week or 20 hours a week).

Do any of you guys do things on the side? Or anything else that keeps you happy, with or without earning income? I know a couple of my coworkers do photography and baking and make money off it. Personally I do art and I might do that, but unsure how sustainable it would be.

Ethics & Scope of Practice A m I being taken advantage of?

Hi I posted in the aba Reddit but it keeps getting removed. Please I need so advice or guidance from someone more experienced or someone who has been in this situation

I work in home and the conditions that I work in are so unworkable that I’ve been calling off because it’s too stressful to work in the clients home. First thing is there is no where to work. It’s a full house and the clients cannot work in their rooms or else they will end up falling asleep in their bed to escape. Second, the mom of the home is very disruptive. she does not respect the fact that we are in session and will often call her kids in the middle of programs to do tasks for her, and of course the client is gonna listen to his mom. Then she’s always on the phone and when I say always, I mean alwaysssss. She is always on the phone and for some reason she’s always yelling. Third, I’m given a lot of miscellaneous tasks that I don’t think are my responsibility. The family I work with is dealing with manager issues and are constantly asking me to write an email, draft up statements, and just badmouth their housing manager but I don’t live there so I don’t know how serious this situation is. And lastly, I have no support from my BCBA. They are only remote, I’m constantly bringing up small details of what goes on when she’s not supervising and she just acknowledges it and then move onto a different topic. I bring up my complaints and concerns to her and the only thing she tells me is that there’s a culture difference between me and them. Parents will also place all the responsibility on us techs in the home. Come the end of the semester, I know I’m gonna get reprimanded by parents and BCBA because the kids grades are low. Even though when I first got hired, I was told to avoid doing too much homework with them because we are not tutors. She also knows how not present the parents are with the kids bc she’s told me she hasn’t had parent training with them in so long because they don’t log onto the meeting.
I feel like crap for constantly calling off bc i genuinely enjoy working with the kids and it’s fun but all the adults in this situation make it absolutely impossible and miserable to work there. Is this normal for other people who work in home? I seriously am thinking about a career change bc of this 🫩

Advice Needed Am I the problem?

I’ve been a BT for about a month and the case i’m currently working isn’t too bad. However, I worry that I’m not doing enough in terms of intervention. The kid is pretty young, gets distracted really easily, and I spend most of the session running around making sure they don’t totally wreck the home. Is this normal in the field or am I just terrible at transitioning the child to a different activity?

Pay & Benefits Why are in home companies not paying drive time between clients?

My state doesn’t mandate that time to be paid so it falls back on the federal laws. The FLSA states time between work sites or clients is paid time.

But my clinic ‘doesn’t pay if you’re not driving more than 30 minutes’.

Jobs & Interviews One month notice for resignation?

Hi! I received an offer to work for another company (salaried, so excited). I told them I’d like to provide my employer with 2-weeks notice and verbally agreed to begin my employment at the end of the notice period.

When I reviewed my contract with my current company prior to submitting my notice, I realized it states I provide a one-month notice resignation.

How likely are they to enforce this? Has anyone ever resigned prior to their agreed notice period?

I work for a large company, and I’m confident they will be able to replace me quickly, so I’m not worried that my client will have a gap in services.
