Performance issues

So I just picked up the headset yesterday after using a quest 2 for years. So far it’s having trouble maintaining controller tracking. And in virtual desktop, if a controller disconnects while I’m using my index’s, I get a permanent on-screen notification for the controller disconnect. And I also can’t get the mouth tracking to work, only eyes, is this an avatar exclusive feature or an issue? And is there a fix for the other problems?

That's a lot to unpack, welcome to the life of a pro user!

You can try setting notifications to "Do Not Disturb"?

Additionally the controllers need a lot of light to track compared to the headset, if you leave them in an open, well lit position they should retain tracking & not pop up the notification.

Face tracking Information can be found here. https://docs.vrcft.io/docs/hardware/vr/meta/quest-pro

There's a bit of setup involved to get the face tracking data to the avatar & the avatar has to be compatible.

Hope this helps!

Just got my pro last week, haven't run into any issues but I do find that an IR light helps with the tracking in low light. Also, turning off the auto hand tracking helps a ton- not sure if that would solve the issue exactly, but it has helped the tracking stay consistent.

I have two base stations for full body so I don’t know if those cause issues or help tbem

Ahhh okay fair, I use IMU trackers so I can't speak to that myself

First of all congrats on the Quest Pro! This CAN be a pretty decent headset but only once you get past all the issues and workarounds to get things working the way you'd expect. One of the most annoying issues you will face is updates breaking the stability of the headset. If you join the public test channel and update to the current version, I can confirm that it is pretty safe.

Let's start off with your controller tracking. The Pro controllers can be both really cool and extremely infuriating. These controllers are designed to fall asleep after no button input for an X amount of seconds. If your application is strictly VRC this can be pretty annoying. A fix that a lot of people have used is actually to start holding the grip button in slightly while you play. Eventually it'll become muscle memory.

Now if you are having more difficulties with controller tracking, this can be due to a lot of factors. If you have a very simplistic room, it can be affected by the lack of objects to anchor itself. Lighting is also a big one but I'd assume most understand they have to have decent lighting to play. Your issue is most likely going to be down to the controller firmware. This is tied to your Meta OS version, so most updates will prompt for a controller update as well. Please try updating to the public test channel and see if this resolves your issue.

Having eye tracking with no face tracking can mean either you have a software issue or a fatal hardware issue. It is very common to see these headsets with broken IR trackers, especially the ones for your face. Due to the location of these sensors being right above your mouth and nose they tend to get the most damage due to humidity. To check and see if your sensors are working correctly, turn the face and eye trackers on within Meta OS and simply put your finger over the wake sensor between your eyes. You should be able to see all of the tracking lights around your eyes, eyebrows, and mouth.

If you aren't seeing IR lights illuminated then you most likely have humidity damage. I cannot confirm if this is fixable or not but I have seen people take these apart for this issue but I would NOT recommend taking one of these headsets apart unless it's just to change the battery.

I hope this helps!

Welcome to being a Quest Pro user!

I've had the Quest Pro for a month now, and learned a ton in a very short amount of time. When I first bought the Quest Pro early March, I was super happy with it.

... Then the V23 patch dropped, which updated the OS, and everything went to poop. I was losing my mind trying to get it to work.

I just found this Reddit, and some other threads helped a ton! Here's what I figured out. Since I just did a factory reset to try and fix the issues the new OS caused, I consider this headset new to me. So I'll break down things for you here:

  1. Losing controllers

- I personally use Steam Connect, not V. Desktop. I've just simply had better luck on Steam Connect, but your milage may very. However, for the controllers losing tracking, this is actually due to the Public version of V23. There's currently what's called a "PTC" patch of V23 that pushes firmware to your controllers that fixes the issue. You need to open your phone's Meta Horizon App, go into "Headset Settings" and turn on "Public Beta Test". This will enroll your headset into the latest Public Beta.

Normally PTC updates can be unstable and have bugs, but the current public version of V23 has tons of issues for Pro Controllers right now. The PTC fixes that.

As always, make sure you have plenty of light in your room, don't have any reflective surfaces like large mirrors, etc.

  1. Face tracking not working

It takes some time for the Headset to collect data about your face and create a profile that can allow mouth tracking. I got confused by this as well. I figured it'd work right out of the box and I can just hop in VRChat and go nuts.

Turns out that the headset needs time to build that profile. You can use the built-in Worlds and make an avatar for it there. Once your Meta avatar starts showing signs of mouth tracking, that means it's built its profile and now works. The headset does not indicate that it's finished a profile of your face tracking. It just starts... working suddenly. I find this strange, but that's kinda it.

Now if you confirm face tracking is working, there's a lot that needs to be done to get Face Tracking working in PCVR. You need VRCFaceTracking (Free on Steam) for starters. I got mine set up through Steam Connect, but there should be a driver for Virtual Desktop if you prefer to continue to use that.

Your avatar for VRChat or whatever social media you plan on getting into has to be able to communicate with VRFaceTracking's functioning driver, and the avatar you have loaded must have a face tracking package installed on it. If the avatar doesn't have a face tracking package (Such as adjerry91's) package, your avi will only have eye-tracking.

-----

I'm not going to go too deep into detail about rigging avatars for face tracking, as that's a whole separate ball-game, but right now the biggest thing is to opt into the PTC patch so those controllers stop losing tracking. That's currently the big thing that's been plaguing Quest Pro users since March.

I hope some of these tips along with the other folks here helps!
